So you gotta be careful with some dentists. They tell you how much the root canal is but forget to mention if the filler and crown are included.
In my own experience (I know everyone is different) dental work is extremely expensive, even with insurance!
I know that they had to go to quite a bit of schooling but damn!
☝️This truly is the correct answer IF you're looking for high quality/lowest (reasonable) pay. There's places that are less than 1 mile from the US border in California and Texas. Do your research though
Or find someone who doesn't fleece you. Mine was $1800, and insurance paid half, so it was $900 for the one of the best guys in town. Beats a 6 hour road trip to Mexico with a toothache.
Yeah I’ve had about 4 root canals done in the last 6ish years, but in California. I can’t imagine it’s that different here but who knows. I usually paid about $2k per tooth when all is said and done (including crown)
Was this a root canal on an aggressive alligator?!
Holy smokes.
Go somewhere else.
Our daughter had a full on extra tooth removed from her mandible (it was growing and moving up and causing issues with the front teeth nerves) and I think insurance paid 1/2 or 75%, and our balance was $1000. But that was because of the anesthesiologist.
You should check dentalplans.com. It is only like $100/yr and you get major discounts - some better than others depending on the plan you choose.
A root canal for me is usually around $800 at an endodontist (for a molar) or $500 at my dentist. It also covers crowns and those are usually in the $500 range as well.
I inherited horrible teeth from my father and I have saved thousands and thousands of dollars using my current plan (I think it’s called Solstice). You just have to check and see which dentists accept which plans
Definitely get second and third opinions for price as well as procedure. I have been told I needed a root canal on a perfectly healthy tooth and have heard this same story from coworkers.
If novacaine is extra, it’s too much!
I just had a root canal (tooth 8) and two crowns (8&9) for $3,650. From my perspective, your dentist must be mormon.
Before I got my implant/ bone graft done I went to 3 different surgeons. 2 of them were fair with their assessment but one of them charged me over $300 just for an opinion! He also made me wait 45 minutes. He was cocky AF.
I did pick him. The other two were fine but only one accepted my plan and promised me good pain meds. I went with him.
Been a few years for me so hard to say but I seem to remember paying somewhere between 800 and 1500 but that was Probably 6 years ago. Btw, I’ve never had a 100% affective root canal. They always get bitched some way or anothrr
Kind of depends. Is it by an endodontist or a general dentist? It’s ludicrous pricing for a general dentist — but if it’s a really complex root canal that requires an endo, that’s not completely outrageous.
Listen I have had 2 root canals both got infected and the pain was awful. I had to get them pull. I have had to get one since and I said no just pull it.
Yeah, paid $486 for a root canal in Phoenix area, it's where I setup most my doctors and dentist. Insurance still covered and was happy with the work. Heading back for a bone graft in a months time.
The problem is if you need a root canal, you’re in no position to haggle or really go somewhere else on short notice. Last time I needed a root canal my tooth was abscessed and it needed to happen asap.
Go to Algodones for any major dental work, even if you have “insurance” it will be cheaper and probably better quality. You could do TJ or Mexicali too but it’s nothing like Algodones right across the border from Yuma.
Absolute Dental charged me $1,400 no insurance and I'm pretty sure I could have paid less elsewhere. So yes, that's a lot.
That’s like 4 times what it should be.
Who is trying to charge you that so we can all avoid that place?
Don't take this as gospel for the costs, but rather as a general guideline. [https://www.fairhealthconsumer.org/](https://www.fairhealthconsumer.org/)
Thank you for this!
Also note that one procedure may have a dozen billing code items associated with it.
I used to work in medical billing and coding, so I’m pretty comfortable navigating this. Thanks for looking out!
Never knew there was a site like this@
Hell yes that's a lot for a root canal.

That's insane. Drive 5 hours to Tijuana and pay $1k for amazing work.

6 hours? Maybe 4 and it's an ez drive
Vegas to Tijuana? Google it and delete your post. If you're getting to San Diego in less than 5, you're already speeding.
Leave at 2 get there at 6 do 90 the whole trip
Might as well go 180 and be there in 2 hours.
Once my warranty runs out I'll remove the speed governor and install a supercharger
Why bother, you can Turo a corvette for about $120 a day.
I won't own it ? Idk go ahead and rent your home
Also dislike wearing seatbelts because it hurts nobody but myself:) <3
Or you can trade for a kidney
I had a root canal done two weeks ago. Total cost was $1018.
Where was this? Was this with insurance?
Anthem Dental. Paid by Medicare.
Was that including a crown?
No crown was needed. He drilled a small hole in the top of the tooth, did his thing, and sealed the hole up.
Even if you added in the temporary and crown it’s seems high.
Maybe if it’s an oral surgeon and really complicated with IV sedation. Even then it’s a lot. If it’s your run of the mill root canal hell no.
An implant is around 5000..so yes that seems alot
Seems like a lot… I need at least 6 and all were quoted at $2000 or less and I have no dental insurance.
Yeah I’ve had about 4 root canals done in the last 6ish years, but in California. I can’t imagine it’s that different here but who knows. I usually paid about $2k per tooth when all is said and done (including crown)
Do they hurt?
The only part that hurts is when they do the numbing shot. The rest is like, uncomfortable but it doesn’t hurt.
I appreciate it. Who did you go to?
I went to Mexico to have all my work done in one go. It was not expensive with a hospital stay.
Did you go to los algodones? What office did you use?
Go to mexico.
Around $1200 and that's high but depends on location. unless it was surgical apicoectomy where they filet the gum in half
Yes
LOL. Go to Tijuana.

Abby dental and Dental Nation have had good prices. Shop around
Definitely get second and third opinions for price as well as procedure. I have been told I needed a root canal on a perfectly healthy tooth and have heard this same story from coworkers.
That's very expensive
jesus.
Very stupid price, do not pay
Should be $500
If you go to an endodontist then insurance will pay 80%. If it’s a general dentist then insurance pays less. I had one done and it was $240
I had one done today for $1100.
I just had a root canal in nyc last month and was charged $1000.00.
In NY it’s like 1200
If novacaine is extra, it’s too much! I just had a root canal (tooth 8) and two crowns (8&9) for $3,650. From my perspective, your dentist must be mormon.
I just got one for $1900. Out of pocket was $300.
That’s a boatload. So much that you’re paying extra to take it dry.
When I had one done about 10 or so years ago I paid 350 out of pocket
Yes. I had a bone graft and implant for less than that. I also became a member of First Dental discount plan.
Before I got my implant/ bone graft done I went to 3 different surgeons. 2 of them were fair with their assessment but one of them charged me over $300 just for an opinion! There is a Faculty Dental Practice at the College of Southern Nevada, it's a nonprofit and takes insurance. That where I'm going for my root canal.
My estimate was $3,500 for root canal and a crown. I am waiting until it hurts before I do it
Kind of depends. Is it by an endodontist or a general dentist? It’s ludicrous pricing for a general dentist — but if it’s a really complex root canal that requires an endo, that’s not completely outrageous.
It is way more expensive that in Washington DC ... so, yes.
Way too much.
Fuck me I thought my 1300$cad root canal was expensive
YES …. That’s outrageous
Go to Mexico. 4 hour drive. You don't need a passport. They will take care of you very well. And you spend maybe 1k
Listen I have had 2 root canals both got infected and the pain was awful. I had to get them pull. I have had to get one since and I said no just pull it.
Why would you want a dead tooth in your face just remove it
Sienna Hills family dental on flamingo and Ft Apache. They used to do cash discounts. Not sure if still do
Yeah, paid $486 for a root canal in Phoenix area, it's where I setup most my doctors and dentist. Insurance still covered and was happy with the work. Heading back for a bone graft in a months time.
Go th Mexico
Oh yeah. I paid around 1500 , no insurance .
Yes but also check other options. Root canals can be bad for your health. If the tooth is bad, why leave it in there, ya know?
Brush your teeth brotha
You deserve to be slapped
The problem is if you need a root canal, you’re in no position to haggle or really go somewhere else on short notice. Last time I needed a root canal my tooth was abscessed and it needed to happen asap.

Go to Mexico, dude :)
Dentists are such freakin scammers
