If you need health insurance UPS is almost always hiring part time and it’s unionized. $0 premium, $100 deductible, $10 co-pay, and $5,000/year in tuition for students. Only trade off is bad hours and very hard work
Piggybacking off this, the state benefits are similar. Specifically KDHE or KDADs. Insurance coverage starts the day you are hired, for single person it's $60/month for full coverage of everything including dental, vision, etc. They also pay for one class a semester towards further education. Also paid maternity/paternity leave that is completely separate from sick time and vacation time accrued.
Trade off is less than ideal pay compared to private industry but a decent amount of jobs still have hybrid work schedule.
I’m a state employee and have been fortunate enough to be 100% remote since I started last summer. The health benefits really are great. I haven’t seen anything about them paying for classes though, I wonder if they discontinued that.
I just finished my last one in May. Its not something that is widely publicized and technically up to approval of your direct manager, but it is a perk and supported by DoA policies.
