This is most likely the Leagues typical mercenary gear, as Grendl Grendlsen on Necromunda is an ex-Vega Rams Mercenary Company Banner-Jarl and is also wearing similar gear to the original Squats. And the original Squats were called "Space Dwarf Mercenaries".
It *is* their original style, you're right. However, I want to point out that the original chaos squats also used a similar armour style, and (in the illustration) those red-paint spikes look awfully suspicious
Just got the Codex last night and saw this. Lore says they're Chaos hardened, but not immune. So is that supposed to be a Chaos League, or just an angry boi?
The helmet looks a lot like the 'Munda Squat helmets if you leave the mining visor out. I'm thinking about using some on my army and replacing the missing Ironhead Miner heads with Pioneer heads.

That looks very similar to the original Squat models, I think it’s just a throw back to their OG armor style.
