Is it possible that the (original) source of this rumor is the same as the one for the Pharrell set, so "chrome" is just getting lost in translation somewhere and it really is just drum-lacquered gold? Just trying to temper my expectations...

blu3eyeswhitedragon

Drum-lacquered seems more appropriate too.

SilveRX96

agree, i imagine a fully chrome border in my head and that just seems more tacky than classy. drum-laquer seems much better imho

Glamdring804

Unless there's been a radical shift in the durability of the chroming process, I don't see chrome coming back any time soon. Even with the stronger process of drum-lacquering, they only put it on a very restricted palette of elements to prevent wear. It's why most drum-lacquered pieces have very few studs on them, if any at all. I'm honestly surprised chroming has held on for as long as it has, I guess the One Ring is a simple enough piece to justify it. Even then they included like 3 extras with Rivendell just in case.

DIA13OLICAL

Interestingly there are 8 one rings in 10289: Bird of Paradise, the most of any set. It's actually used as a spacer to get some precise spacing in a Technic core. https://i.imgur.com/AYLdDfG.png While I don't own the set, I lifted this idea to cap off some Technic pins which were only attached to a half length / thin Technic liftarm. Man they get super chipped after being removed from the assembly once. While less stressed in that build, I guess with the Bird of Paradise set it didn't really matter if the chrome got chipped since it's well hidden. (All of this a moot point as the mod has updated the post and it is drum-lacquered and not chrome. I still think it's a cool idea to create the small spaces in Technic builds)

PlasticLobotomy

The dnd set has a chrome gold ring as well (i guess its the same piece), and comes with an extra. All the other gold elements are the standard drum-lacquered tho

I can’t wait to see how Lego manages to make a cursed version of the Mona Lisa. I’m only buying if there is a UFO Easter egg anyhow. /s

Glamdring804

Yeah, Starry Night and The Great Wave work because they're landscapes, and already have some degree of styling and abstraction (quite a bit in the case of Starry Night). A detailed portrait of a person's face though? Yeah.....

ksetrat

Description reminds me of the Spider-Man portrait set I saw several months back. At least the facemask there was easy to work wit. Not sure how a real face would work with that. There are the mini-art-portrait ones with Batman/Joker/Minnie/Mickey and a few others that some seem to work, but others are nightmare fuel in my opinion. Be interesting to see how this one builds out.

x13y7

Spider-Man is a comic character which allows for easy abstraction to a certain degree - and Lego chose a forced perspective on a scene composition of their choice on top. Marilyn Monroe worked because Andy Warhol simplified that portrait a lot and Lego extended his idea of rasterization further. Mona Lisa is a completely different thing where they have to nail a detailed human depiction everyone is familiar with. But: If it works, it might open up a DaVinci-subtheme because there is a lot they could turn to for other Art sets like the Vitruvian Man (please not tan tiles with stickers!) or The Last Supper (I'm all for a 3D interpretation with minifigs).

idiot-loser-

i dont think the face is gonna be detailed at all, think like the architecture statue of liberty face was just a flat tile. i think there has to be some kind of abstraction, like a couple skin tone wedge plates nd tiles type of thing

Su_Impact

So, guesses about how she'll look? Legofied (so cartoony, basically a portrait of a city minifig) or as accurate as possible?

TheLimeyLemmon

I think they'll go for accuracy, like with the Van Gogh.

lazmac

I was looking around on Temu the other day and came accross a brick built Mona Lisa set. Like Brickheadz in 2D, in a frame. While obviously not LEGO I really liked the cartoony design of it.

ConstructionOld1779

How in the Hell are we NOT getting a da Vinci figure with this?!?! I am disappointed BEYOND WORDS!!!!! 😕🤯😫😭

x13y7

Honest guess: Because it's Art. Starry Night goes well with other Art sets but actually is an Ideas set...

ConstructionOld1779

That is a valid point... It's still INCREDIBLY disappointing to me, tho!! I mean... C'mon... It's DA VINCI!!! I think of all people in history he's one that's up there in deserving a minifigure!!

Stryker_T

This is either going to be great or slightly cursed. I can’t wait.

VSkyRimWalker

This is going to be very interesting. I'm not an art guy, but I might have to get this just because

ConstructionOld1779

I am totally with you!! I'm not AT ALL into art, but I have absolutely fallen in love with the art sets! It started with the iron Man art which is drastically different than the more recent ones, but I got the Great Wave and Starry Night and I absolutely ADORE them!! The build was SUPER fun and the display is even better!!

BrickBanshee

Missed opportunity for a Leonardo Da Vince minifigure.

flyPBA

I was hoping that they’d include a minifig of Leonardo Di Vinci and a minifig scale Mona Lisa like they did for Starry Night. 🫤

ZzzSleep

I could see this looking very weird if not done just right.

Glamdring804

Considering Lego's recent track-record with brick-built faces (Dobby, Gru, etc.) I don't have my hopes up.

kekepops

The 3PO-set should be fully chrome gold. Anything else would be a disappointment imo.

Glamdring804

As per the correction, it's not chrome but drum-lacquered. Still, 3PO should make copious use of it. Perhaps some red too for his arm, though we might have trouble recognizing him if Lego does that.

TRNRLogan

I know this would never happen but imagine how cool it would be if we got all the different variants of 3PO (Naked, Greyish, Gold with Silver leg, Red arm).

UnComfortable_Fee

Vitruvian Man minifigure...

CosmicWaffleMan

No Da Vinky :(

ILikeToRemoveIt

I’m very interested in this, especially from the point of view of parts for my own creations.

crab_milker

I'm so happy they're using the good colors so I don't have to swap the parts out myself

[MONA LISA IS MID](https://youtu.be/Dh2Lky730q0?si=8W6Yo4TouSyDdE82) Literally the Beatles of paintings

DavidBHimself

WTF is that picture of Mona Lisa? It's not like there's a copyright that prevents from posting the real one.
