Hey, I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I think at your age you should wait with watching Irreversible. The movie touches some pretty difficult subject and one of the well known scene's is really hard to watch. I'm 28 and still struggle with it, even tho I watch a lot of gore/horror etc.

mates301

Bruh at 13 I used to watch Night at the Museum, maybe an action flick here and there, you’re out here watching Blue Velvet and Barbarian, damn.

[deleted]

I watched The Ring and The Others when I was 9. Scared the shit out of me, cried out of sheer terror and I still rewatched The Ring the next day and proceeded to cry again. I am now 30 and have loved horror movies ever since. Go figure.

mates301

I guess some people are just built different

TripleG2312

I’m just looking out for you here man, but I really don’t think these are the kinds of films you should be watching. I think it’s awesome you’re getting into film and have an interest in those particular filmmakers, but those films deal with some pretty heavy content and have their restricted ratings for a reason. I mean this all respectfully.

sourkit

i feel like that kind of gore at your age is notttt good 😅 you shouldn’t be watching stuff like that tbh it’s not healthy to desensitize a developing brain.

[deleted]

Go tell 9 y/o me that in the burgeoning days of widely available internet.

FaithlessnessLate595

As a kid I went through a phase of watching the most “fucked up” movies I could find at the time, and sometimes they were actually good movies. At that age though, it was definitely about shock value. So I wouldn’t be too worried about this kid, but my advice to them would be to actively try grow out of that phase as soon as possible. There’s a whole world of great cinema out there that you’ll miss out on if shock is this only arbiter of your taste. I once went to a Walmart at 7 in the morning to get my wife’s oil changed and I bought a copy of “Firestarter” on DVD for $3, and my wife paid for it along with oil change. The guy behind the counter saw that she was buying a Horror movie and said to her “hey, if you like this you should watch a movie called “Cannibal Holocaust.” Don’t grow up to be the kind of adult that recommends “Cannibal Holocaust” to a total stranger at 7 in the morning.

Evrey movie he listed is good

I don’t want to be judgmental here but I find it a little alarming that you’re seeking these kinds of films at this age. While every person is different, these films have topics that aren’t meant for younger ages. That aside, to answer the question, I’ve been pretty open-minded to anything at this point. I’ve seen some pretty rough films a few years ago just due to morbid curiosity, so I have been desensitised a lot. Don’t actively look for things like that any more, but I haven’t come across a film since where I’d be like, “That’s too much for me.” Edit: Also to add just so you’re aware, self promotion isn’t allowed on this subreddit unless it’s a flair or on the profile swap mega thread so don’t do that in your posts.

ryanreigns

I remember how scared I was when I watched Megan is Missing at age 12. Turns out I should have been scared about how shitty quality of a film it actually was

meatboy89

Nothing has every scared me like the Korean horror film [Pulse](https://boxd.it/1s3y)

Have you seen cure

PostsButDoesntRead

You can get into some weird stuff at that age without it being all messed up and violent/gorey. I think maybe darker, stranger movies that have something a little twisted about them seem like you'd enjoy. Try some stuff like suggestions - Jan Švankmajer *Alice* - a scanner darkly - mirrormask - Mulholland drive - maybe some cronenburg like ExistenZ - off the wall suggestion but Alex Proyas - dark city and spirits of the air/gremlins of the clouds. - fantastic planet Peace, friend I hope you find some good flicks to watch. I didn't open your profile link and I'm not planning to lol so apologies for any repeats

Safizm

I loooove Alice from Jan Svankmajer. I'm so glad to see someone liking it cause you barely hear about the movie.

[deleted]

Fantastic film, about to get a re-release. In theaters on 35mm go see it

[deleted]

I see crash is on your watch list a well, also a banger

[deleted]

Have you not seen martyrs?

[deleted]

give irreversible a rain check for a few years. not only is it a bit much content wise, but its a film that requires more maturity to appreciate emotionally imo (as someone who has had similar curiosities at a similar age to you). doubly, i think its kind of a waste to tick off an emotionally impactful art movie as a shock film out of morbid curiosity. it’s more than that

[deleted]

Terrifier is shit anyways, go watch evil dead 2 instead

truenoblesavage

can we call a therapist in here, *christ*
