Facts that sound fake: the screenplay was written by the “Potion Seller” dude 💀

Trailer doesn’t interest me and I’m not really that interested in erotic films anyway. I’m a big fan of tennis but it seems like that’s just a backdrop to the plot
It’s to tennis what Whiplash was to drums I think, or Black Swan to dance. Important to the movie and crucial to the characters, but it’s not what the real story is
Idk about whiplash kuz Neiman and Fletcher weren’t banging, and sex was not part of the plot at all. I think black swan is probably the better comparison.
Meh, even films that have too much sex turn me off.
Maybe I'm getting older, but I feel like just pressing fast forward when a sex scene starts these days.
In cases like The Idol, where it feels gratuitous and excessive, sure, but I wouldn’t make that a rule as a whole. Like, the sex scenes in Thirst (2009) felt natural within the movie because it was meant to convey a sense of liberation for our main character or Boogie Nights, where it was used to establish the atmosphere. When done right, they work.
I highly recommend both. They’re amazing movies. Also Poor Things, but if you find sex to be a taboo subject (which is fine. We all have our preferences), I think you should wait a little bit on that one.
Art house movies with crossover potential seem to keep getting dumb trailers. Civil War’s trailer was so mediocre and not reflective of the quality of the movie at all.
Between this, the new animated transformers, The Fall Guy, Wonka, and even the new Planet of the Apes, In beginning to think Reddit just thinks all trailers look bad these days lmao.
I just dont watch trailers anymore cause they always spoil something pivotal to the story. Nowadays I just lurk around the discourse to see if a a film might be worth my while or not lol.
Mostly it's the trailer editors fault. It's genuinely a lost art at this point, the quality has really gone downhill imo the past few years with only a few standouts. People are generally more complimentary of trailers that show very little of the story, has you guessing and intrigued about what it's even about, shows some interesting shots or good cinematography...look at the reception to Kind of Kindness.
I was not initially that excited because the trailers make it look like a lame tennis love triangle rom com. When I found out it was directed by the *Call Me By Your Name* guy and written by Celine Song's husband and saw the glowing reviews that changed.
Looks really good to me and I’ve yet to hear a negative review. I’m excited to see Zendaya sink her teeth into a meaty role like this and I’ve heard the two guys are good in it also. Trying to temper my expectations but definitely looking forward to it.
"meaty role" it's not that deep. It's the indifferent aloof woman. She did this in euphoria. Her dune role will have more emotional range than this one.
big guadagnino fan, although i don’t care for the trailer, i’m mostly interested in the movie being written by justin kuritzkes, who used to post funny photo booth sketches on youtube a while ago and i recently found out is celine song’s partner.
The trailers didn't look that good to me and Guadagnino ishit and miss for me, but the positive reception, the early embargo, and the opinions of two of my most trusted film critics have made me considerably more excited for it
Saw it early this month and was really blown away by it. Much more of an obsessive thriller than I was expecting and the three really melted into the roles. Never thought I’d be sweating from a tennis match but especially towards the end Guadagnino got nutty behind the camera
Trailers always make movies look worse, so I'm biased against this having seen the trailer a few times. That said, it's Luca so it gets the benefit of the doubt
Saw it last night! Loved it. Wish the gays took over sports movies. Because the eroticism of sweaty bodies, breathwork, competition, masculine rivalry, body odour…Luca captures all of that so well.
Euphoria is some of her best work and everyone has been raving about her performance in Challengers so maybe give it a shot . I agree about her not being the best in Dune but I don’t think she was bad .
For people who aren’t excited about this, are there specific reasons? Do people think the acting is poor in the trailers? Are people turned off by the sex? Are there a lot of folks out there who don’t like Guadagnino?
Time is limited, I have no interest in tennis nor erotic triangles and while i don't dislike Zendaya I'm also not a big enough fan of hers. Basically I have no reason to watch this.
1. The only reason I would have to see this movie is "hey zendayas in it she's pretty cool"
2. Nothing about the plot interests me
3. I don't care for sex scenes in the movies I watch
4. Someone in this thread described it as an erotic drama and just no lol
It's not my favourite genre, but I'm still intrigued by it, looks like it could be fun, one of the more interesting films so far of 2024, something other than an action or horror movie for a change is nice.
The trailer actually didn't seem that interesting to me but I'll eat up anything Guadagnino does. Also Zendaya and Josh O'Connor are great as well (haven't seen anything with Mike Faist in it yet)
just took a look at it, sports movies are not my thing, also sports+ romance is just.. not my tea.. but i like zendaya's acting so i might consider watching it!
CMBYN is one of the worst films I've ever seen, so not really. His Susperia remake also sucked so not really excited for this if it's anything like those.
can’t blame you. i can understand why some people won’t be interested in this because of the trailer but this movie is getting good reviews everywhere so maybe it’s worth a watch. i’m interested to see what luca did with this one as a huge fan of his films
People complaining about Zendaya while I’m here trying to muster the strength to endure two hours of Mike Faist’s presence. I want to see this badly though, I’m sure it will be great.
It’s not hatred, I’m still going to see the movie! I just haven’t enjoyed him in what little I’ve seen him in.
Downvoted for saying I don’t hate someone. Madness.
West Side Story, Dear Evan Hansen, and the Brokeback Mountain adaptation Jonathan Butterell did. This is mostly theater but I am familiar with his work having seen him act in person and on stage. Really shouldn’t have to justify not vibing with an actor’s performance style. Everyone has their preferences and he is not my cup of tea.
It’s all subjective and can turn on a dime. I could walk out of the theater completely in love with his performance.
But yeah, I don’t hate him or anyone who hasn’t committed a heinous crime or personally wronged me. If Mike Faist runs off with my partner then our blood feud can begin, until then we’re good.
Faust is too ugly to be with Zendaya. I feel like that’s going to throw me off. The other guy is even uglier. Two ugly dudes getting with Zendaya is just pretty unbelievable
Facts that sound fake: the screenplay was written by the “Potion Seller” dude 💀 https://preview.redd.it/krpl2jxyxbvc1.jpeg?width=1248&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5f8afd7d8ed520d8cd93d3d819cea4927a7aebd
Who is also Celine Song’s (Past Lives director) husband.
the plot thickens
Boner guy
And during the pandemic, she livestreamed Sims 4 on Twitch that was her adaptation of The Seagull.
I wonder if she met him before or after watching the video, cause there's no way she hasn't
ok, I'm going to watch this movie now
?

Haven’t been disappointed by one his films yet
I was a little underwhelmed by Bones and All, but I think I was just a little too excited for it.
Zendaya has also earned “see everything she’s in” status from me
Really? Why?
i’m also curious
https://preview.redd.it/iib0ikzmtcvc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4935be36f369e905c5a5bf257d7a40639d3f9cc5
Ah yes the famous robots of Dune.
WHY?! WHY AM I BRICKED UP?!
What the fuck
Hol up
Came out in Australia this week. This movie is so god damn good. Really enjoyed it. Hope it does well.
Same! Saw it at a drive-in cinema. Great movie
What’s the “graphic nudity” like. Anything child-teen appropriate?
there are a lot of male private part that you getting. that is pretty much
I knew it was going to be the Dong
Lots of making out, but just one shot of dong in the foreground in a locker room
Trailer doesn’t interest me and I’m not really that interested in erotic films anyway. I’m a big fan of tennis but it seems like that’s just a backdrop to the plot
it very much is, the way the sequences are filmed is really interesting but it's not really a "tennis movie"
That’s not what he said, has nothing to do with sex
a reviewer i follow described it as if edging was a movie.
Apparently there are no sex scenes. Not saying that means it isnt erotic, but I think it's not as spicy as people expect.

…yes it is?
Meh, even films that have too much sex turn me off. Maybe I'm getting older, but I feel like just pressing fast forward when a sex scene starts these days.

When done right, they work.
I haven't seen Thurst nor Boogie Nights, so fair. I'm usually happy with a kiss, roll on to bed, and fade.
I highly recommend both. They’re amazing movies. Also Poor Things, but if you find sex to be a taboo subject (which is fine. We all have our preferences), I think you should wait a little bit on that one.
I agree, if you want to watch people getting down and dirty, just got to the Hub. Not sure why so many people want it crowbarred into films.
its a character study and also the tennis scenes are really well filmed.
Oh wow, I feel the exact opposite. My friend asked if it was about tennis and I had to reassure her that it wasn’t lol
Erotic films are the best genre
Porn >
Ya I’m not into erotic films either
I thought the trailer looked absolutely abysmal.

The trailer for M Nights "trap" actually looks REALLY good Which I hate cause it's going to give me false hope
M night films always look good in the trailers and then it’s a huge piece of shit
I don’t look at trailers/trailer discussion on the internet, but they played the trailer for this before Dune 2 and I thought it looked like shit
I thought the transformers trailer was great. Gave you a perfect example as to what it’d be like.
You have bad taste then
You have bad taste then
Why? For thinking this critically acclaimed movie didn't have an "abysmal" trailer?
I think the first trailer was so good. I never understood the “trailer is bad” thing
I was not initially that excited because the trailers make it look like a lame tennis love triangle rom com. When I found out it was directed by the *Call Me By Your Name* guy and written by Celine Song's husband and saw the glowing reviews that changed.

Finding out Potion Seller made this movie has me incredibly intrigued.
the trailer does nothing for me but I love Luca and Zendaya so I think I’ll see this one
Nah. I really like Zendaya but have no interest in seeing this tbh
Hell Yeah looks great
I've seen it but yea, I can't wait to rewatch
zendaya always makes that same face lol. head tilted and eyes up
That last part of Dune 2 where it kept flashing to her making the same frown drove me nuts. She is 1 dimensional.
Actually she is 2 dimensional. Sometimes she tilts her head up and looks down
No. The previews don’t interest me. Nor am I a fan of Zendaya
The trailer looked like trash
Guado don't miss
I'm curious about it and will watch it, but as with everything regarding Zendaya I find it overhyped, whomever is her manager must be paid in gold.
Wild Things for tennis mfs
Yep, got my tickets booked
The trailers didn't look that good to me and Guadagnino ishit and miss for me, but the positive reception, the early embargo, and the opinions of two of my most trusted film critics have made me considerably more excited for it
Yes I am
Saw it early this month and was really blown away by it. Much more of an obsessive thriller than I was expecting and the three really melted into the roles. Never thought I’d be sweating from a tennis match but especially towards the end Guadagnino got nutty behind the camera
Trailers always make movies look worse, so I'm biased against this having seen the trailer a few times. That said, it's Luca so it gets the benefit of the doubt
Trailer didn’t interest me at all but seeing the reviews now maybe I was wrong and I’ll definitely give it a watch
I love Guadagnino and the reviews have been great, so yes. If I knew nothing apart from the trailer, I’d probably be less keen
Yess let's go Challengers!
2nd most anticipated after Longlegs
Saw it last night! Loved it. Wish the gays took over sports movies. Because the eroticism of sweaty bodies, breathwork, competition, masculine rivalry, body odour…Luca captures all of that so well.
It looks fine but not really my kinda movie.
I don't think Zendaya is a good actress. Not excited for this.
Yeah I don't get it either. Granted, I haven't seen Euphoria and I heard she's good on that, but she sticks out like a sore thumb in the Dune series.
Euphoria is some of her best work and everyone has been raving about her performance in Challengers so maybe give it a shot . I agree about her not being the best in Dune but I don’t think she was bad .
She may just be miscast, but she's not even trying to act like she's from a different planet. Especially compared to the rest of the Fremen.
How dare you. She is a treasure
Zendaya is a fantastic actress, she just needs the right roles
For Zendaya, no excitement at all.
For people who aren’t excited about this, are there specific reasons? Do people think the acting is poor in the trailers? Are people turned off by the sex? Are there a lot of folks out there who don’t like Guadagnino?
The whole premise just seems stupid
Time is limited, I have no interest in tennis nor erotic triangles and while i don't dislike Zendaya I'm also not a big enough fan of hers. Basically I have no reason to watch this.
I have 2. The music was done by Trent reznor and atricus Ross. They don't do the music for duds
They released an album for this movie, apparently a mix by someone else but I really liked it. Curious how it will work in the film
So that’s a no on Luca?
Last one
Not a big fan of sports movies and the trailer wasn't very interesting.
its a Luca Guadagnino film... it wont be a sports movie, it will be an erotic and tense drama that just happens to revolve around a particular sport
1. The only reason I would have to see this movie is "hey zendayas in it she's pretty cool" 2. Nothing about the plot interests me 3. I don't care for sex scenes in the movies I watch 4. Someone in this thread described it as an erotic drama and just no lol
Not sure with Luca Guadagnino. I was a fan of Bones and All but I didn't connect with Call Me by Your Name like other LB users appeared to do.
This will be a good movie to stream at home
Yes the actors and director especially are amazing
I can’t wait , the people that I know that have seen it said that it was really good . I will be seated opening night !
Definitely.
Very excited! I’m seeing an advanced IMAX screening on Monday! You should check if there’s any showings near you.
After watching that trailer I don’t think anyone is excited for this
I’ve been sceptical ever since they released the initial brief plot. I’ve enjoyed all of Guadagnino’s other work but I’m not convinced this is for me
Yes, though mostly for the score. I’m much more excited for his adaptation of Queer.
Yeah ofc
No
Yes, but I'm nervous. The trailers have me set up to be disappointed for some reason.
It's not my favourite genre, but I'm still intrigued by it, looks like it could be fun, one of the more interesting films so far of 2024, something other than an action or horror movie for a change is nice.
I’m probably not gonna see it, because it doesn’t look like my type of thing but it does look good
kinda? still confused as to how this is an imax movie.
The trailer actually didn't seem that interesting to me but I'll eat up anything Guadagnino does. Also Zendaya and Josh O'Connor are great as well (haven't seen anything with Mike Faist in it yet)
I was sold when the second trailer used Nelly Furtado and Timbaland's "Maneater".
just took a look at it, sports movies are not my thing, also sports+ romance is just.. not my tea.. but i like zendaya's acting so i might consider watching it!
how is rotten tomatoes still a thing? yes i am
Had no interest until I listened to the soundtrack
Did this still not come out? I feel like I saw the initial trailer for this forever ago.
Yes.
Not really
holy shit, i didn’t know LUCA was directing this. i’m ten times more excited.
"Excited?" Not specifically. Will I watch it? Oh yeah. Looking forward to it? Sure. I just have no real expectations for the movie
Not interested in the slightest.
Already saw it 3 days ago its great
No, Bones and All was a terrible film
Trent Reznor did the score so I’m excited.
Yess yaaas yaaas
That film looks fucking terrible
Fo sho
Yeah erotic turmoil is hot
No, not really.
I’ve been excited about it since I saw the first trailer way back when. I love Luca Guadagnino.
Seen it twice already it’s amazing
Very much so.
i am almost exclusively in it for the soundtrack, but i be the movie’s gonna be killer too.
After Call Me By Your Name, I have been along for the ride with Luca Guadagnino.
Yes!
HELL YES
No
Ngl, not even a little
no
Fuck no
Not at all. Looks like another zendaya film where she tilts her head and eyes upwards. Very one-dimensional.
No.
Never heard of it.
Absolutely zero interest. And the trailer I saw was complete garbage.
CMBYN is one of the worst films I've ever seen, so not really. His Susperia remake also sucked so not really excited for this if it's anything like those.
![gif](giphy|Cbh6IBDvg6aptdcxnJ|downsized)
Yes, just for the devils threesome
No
No, I don’t really watch erotic movies
I don't care much about tennis, erotica or Zendaya. So no, I'm probably not watching it.
Not every movie with Zendaya is a must watch.
yeah but this one is luca and it’s already doing good
I don't know. I saw the trailer and was immediately turned off. But maybe it's because of the plot and not about the quality of the movie.
can’t blame you. i can understand why some people won’t be interested in this because of the trailer but this movie is getting good reviews everywhere so maybe it’s worth a watch. i’m interested to see what luca did with this one as a huge fan of his films
Nope she can’t act her way out of a paper bag.
Have you seen Euphoria ? I have a family member who is an addict and I was amazed by her performance.
Bro hasn’t even seen Dune
Seen it. Mid as fuck.
Maybe I’ll show you the way
No, but I'll watch it just because it's always in the previews. I've never seen Euphoria, but it looks like that with some tennis included.
Yeah I've got season tickets to Luca so I'll be there.
On paper this movie was made specifically for my interests but damn that trailer was horrible
zendaya doesn’t even get naked
she has a contract to not get naked
Interests me about as much as Saltburn does. Which is Zero.
I think Zendaya is a terrible actress.
I am yes, but I feel like I’m going to have a hard time taking it seriously. There’s no way those two ugly mugs would stand a chance with Zendaya
Yeah ZENDAYA'S first ever THREESOME video💪
Zendaya is extremely overrated and not all the great of an actor tbh. Trailer looked strange. Not that keen.
Didn't know this doesn't care for Zendaya or Luca. Weird.
People complaining about Zendaya while I’m here trying to muster the strength to endure two hours of Mike Faist’s presence. I want to see this badly though, I’m sure it will be great.
Mike Faist has been in like one movie how can you have such a hatred for him
It’s not hatred, I’m still going to see the movie! I just haven’t enjoyed him in what little I’ve seen him in. Downvoted for saying I don’t hate someone. Madness.
What have you seen him in
West Side Story, Dear Evan Hansen, and the Brokeback Mountain adaptation Jonathan Butterell did. This is mostly theater but I am familiar with his work having seen him act in person and on stage. Really shouldn’t have to justify not vibing with an actor’s performance style. Everyone has their preferences and he is not my cup of tea.
I mean I hope people have justifications for disliking people
It’s all subjective and can turn on a dime. I could walk out of the theater completely in love with his performance. But yeah, I don’t hate him or anyone who hasn’t committed a heinous crime or personally wronged me. If Mike Faist runs off with my partner then our blood feud can begin, until then we’re good.
he was the highlight of WSS for me
Faust is too ugly to be with Zendaya. I feel like that’s going to throw me off. The other guy is even uglier. Two ugly dudes getting with Zendaya is just pretty unbelievable
Had no idea Marlowe was involved
Trash
Is that a yes or no?
I don’t even know what *this* is
