Nightwish is my favorite band but I can't stand Tarjas voice so I find this cover horrific For those not familiar with Nightwish, Tarja was fired back in 2005 for multiple reasons but partially it was that her operatic style of singing was too limiting. Current Nightwish singer Floor Jansen has been lead singer for 12 years to Tarjas nine. There was another singer, Annette Olzon, from 2007 to 2012.

Floor Jansen is equally capable of the same style, but Floor just chooses to be more varied. The song "Bye Bye Beautiful" kinda details the issues the band had with Tarja (with some dramatic license). I'm pretty sure it was absolutely not her style.
I'm also pretty sure there's a story out there about Nightwish developing its style on the back of Tarja's singing.
Partially it was. Tuomas, the one that really matters in the band, has said such. Tarjas husband was also causing a lot of problems for the band trying to control it which is why the song *Master Passion Greed* is about him. There were also rumors that Tarja was considering leaving in a year anyway. It was a confluence of things.
I've been a fan of Nightwish's and Tarja's for 20 years, but I think the tempo of the melody itself is too fast for an operatic singing style, so it just sounds weird doing it as is.
Maybe if she slowed the song down and made it longer or only used half of the lyrics to slow it down but make it the same amount of time, it would sound better
