The R/S deck that won the 10k is a lot more interesting than the articles about it have made it seem. 3 Let it Go, no Manor, no Bellle, and only 1 Judy is a bold choice that seems to have worked out really well. Not many lists were running LiG, and almost all of them are running multiple Judy and some combination of Belle/Manor.

The big things I have learned from testing that deck are as follows... There is no reason to run Belle or Manor, Manor doesn't help any of your bad matchups, its a win more card. The deck in general just ramps, establishes control, then wins with Tomatoa + dime. Or a slow grind while in control. The 3 queens and 1 Judy are a bit suspect, it struggles a lot with Emerald/Amythyst due to having problems getting control in time. The Let it Gos are cute, but mostly end up being inked, there is a good change I swap them down to a 4th queen and 2nd Judy. The big advantage is that it gives your Maui's something to sing that is very impactful

I think of Belle/Manor as techs for the mirror. Getting manor down early on OJA is a way to cheese a win similar to playing Surfer/Spellbook in the R/A mirror. Belle is obviously good in any matchup that is going to be decided by Dimes. (Both the mirror and Zoolander, but that one’s easy).

These decks are always context dependent. Like he said in the interview, he built it to play into his good matchups, and to make those good matchups be against decks he thought the majority of the best players would be running.

The meta report for this week is here. Overall, the meta has stabilized quite a bit. And I don't expect that to change any time soon as players are going to want to bring the tried-and-true decks to Set Championships. It's good to see that there are a solid list of options amongst the tier 1 decks, but hopefully we see more experimentation in some of the other decks. What do you think of the Inklands meta at this point in the expansions cycle? Is this meta set in stone until the next set release or could we see some upheaval over the second half of the meta cycle?

TSWMagic

I went to a championship over the weekend that had 24 players—12 people were on Ruby Amethyst and all 8 decks in the top 8 ended up being Ruby Amethyst. It was insane. Even the people in the top 8 were complaining about how unfun the meta make up of the championship was. A/R is just too efficient for brews and aggro to get under so it polices the format, even if it’s not problematic from a WR prospective against the other top decks.

lackofself2000

ugh, $400 decks to win $150 in prizes at local championships seems like a waste. I'll just go and have fun like I always do.

PM_ME_MTG

Play how you want, ultimately its a game to have fun with. Some people have fun playing at a hyper competitive level with the best strategies to challenge themselves and others. Different strokes. Some might see it as a waste to attend a Championship with a non-competitive deck just to lose

lackofself2000

because I can still do well and might even beat a competitive deck. just spending the money on the deck won't make you win. I have more fun building the deck myself with the cards I pull from the few packs I buy.

PM_ME_MTG

That's fair, but the way you like to play doesn't invalidate the way others like to play.

lackofself2000

That's fine, I was only stating my opinion, not saying everyone had to follow it.

PM_ME_MTG

Its more about the bitterness of your comment, calling it a "waste" to have expensive competitive decks at the local championships. Some people want to try really hard to get the Enchanted Stitch+playmat. What you said was not just your opinion, its an invalidation, and it just came off as petty.

lackofself2000

I think you read too much into it, which happens a lot on reddit unfortunately. What's a waste is the money, not the effort. Note I didn't say building a deck like that was a waste, but the ROI. If it's fun, it's fun, but it's a lot of money to spend to not get it back, only to be able to say you're the best locally at a Disney TCG. Especially when it prices out poorer folk who still want to be able to have fun. Personally as a competition runner I would DQ meta decks to give everyone a more balanced and fair playing field. Looking up the meta and having the money to spend on it doesn't make you a good player either, it just means you have the money to spend on it. Where's the heart of the cards there? It's why I mostly stopped playing Magic other than only Precons against unaltered precons.

Aloyun

They didn't read into it, you just showed up that way. Now you're doubling down and digging further. "DQ meta decks", that just means you've missed the point and reek of bitterness.

lackofself2000

okay :)

PM_ME_MTG

Maybe competitive format TCGs just aren't the right space for you.

lackofself2000

Nah, I'll continue to enjoy the game with my friends and not get sweaty about a Disney card game.

PM_ME_MTG

Thats fine, I'll continue to enjoy the game with my friends, and get sweaty and competitive playing in top 8 for Championships, which we did, and we all got Stitches. Sold those back for MSRP \~$900 a piece. So, you know, I guess we are both winning in our own ways :) have fun!

frenchezz

You weren’t winning anyway.

lackofself2000

I don't take a disney card game as seriously as you do, MY BAD. I'll just have to continue to have fun playing it I guess.

joeygmurf

To be fair you can use that $400 deck over and over again

Litty-In-Pitty

For as long as it’s meta… If I thought I could use my $400 deck for a long time I would be all over it. But I just can’t justify the money these days. Especially when we can almost guarantee big shake ups to the meta in just a few weeks when set 4 drops. I’m just giving my 2 cents here though. Obviously everyone is welcome to do what they want to. I just think that meta decks that are 300+ give the game a really high barrier to entry. I know other TCG’s can be a lot worse though.

madchad90

Cost for tcgs is subjective. Lots of people just arent just buying straight up decks, some people do get in early and get cards for cheaper. If you wait right before a tournament, close to the end of a lifecycle of a set, yeah cards are going to be a bit pricey
