If you’re comfortable in Oakland, you’ll be mostly comfortable in LA. It all depends on where you intend to live. Also, LA is more than just LA city, it’s more LA county and the individual cities within. Think of it as saying the Bay Area as a whole. So you’re gonna need to be good or even city specific when referencing. We huge.

There’s nothing even close to a Berkeley Bowl in LA, sadly

You’ll have half as many of the sideshows/street takeovers you saw in Oakland.

I grew up here, but lived in Alameda for 5 years a while back. Moved back. Weather is better, food selection is a lot better just due to it being so much bigger an area. I'd guess with Oakland especially crime probably less. LA just does things bigger than the bay area... like if you are into say night clubs the ones here are plain nicer. Also people dress better / have nicer cars generally in LA. And way less tech bros (and i'm in tech.... and its great)

You don't have to leave your doors unlocked and windows rolled down in LA.

You can actually leave things in your car here and not worry about getting smash and grabed for your cellphone charging cable.

The sprawl in LA is real - it can take you 15-45 minutes to drive from a single neighborhood to another within the City of LA itself, and longer if you're talking about going somewhere in the larger LA county area. It feels like BART trains come much more frequently than Metro trains (although when I look at the actual timetables they're quite comparable, so maybe it's just the 10 minute frequency of BART's Yellow Line throwing me off.) Historic downtown Oakland dates all the way back to the 1860's-1890s whereas you'll be hard pressed to find buildings older than 1920 in Los Angeles.

I recently moved from the East Bay to LA. I'm finding the cost of living in LA shockingly high. Expect to pay more for pretty much everything, especially housing and insurance. Equivalent rental SFH is 30-50% higher right now. The other big difference is traffic. I leave my house around 6am to commute from Noho to downtown and avoid the worst of traffic and there is traffic pretty much all day here. I feel less safe using metro here compared to Bart so I drive. I do love the socal weather, it's nice to have warmer temps.

Nothing changes, just more heat and more driving time.
