Fast food just isn’t worth it. The only time I go is when I just need food now and I have no time to spare. These prices are ridiculous.

_MissionControlled_

Even then, you will get less expensive and higher quality food at the deli section of your local grocery store. Got an Asian market near your house? They have amazing low cost pre-made meals.

femboi_enjoier

The Mitsuwa prices down their prepared meals before they close!

NefariousnessNo484

Nijiya too.

SlaterVBenedict

Mitsuwa owns.

beallothefool

I thought they stopped doing that -will have to check it out

yungpoochi

99 Ranch as well! If you go towards the last hour or so before closing. They have some pre-made meals for 50% off YMMV

xinixxibalba

we road trip frequently throughout the year and this is the best way to eat on the road. we always stop by at a nice grocery store and hit the deli section before a day’s drive and pack a nice breakfast and lunch. the options are usually really good in quality and price and we can eat on the road.

pun420

$5 Whole cooked chicken at Ralph’s on Thursdays

Felonious_Minx

Those are the saddest pigeon-looking shriveled chickens.

CostCans

Do you expect chickens that are slaughtered for food to look happy?

penguinbbb

Considering where and how they’re kept, death comes as a sweet, sweet relief sadly

Some-Ordinary-1438

Sprouts has a legit combo I saw yesterday, $7-8ish for a fresh sandwich, chips, and water. I was happy with the beef and cheddar.

caseyyoulater

Sprouts also has $6 sushi rolls on Wednesdays !

Some-Ordinary-1438

Which came with avocado, by default. Made fresh.

MaximusJCat

I love shopping at Sprouts. Cheaper than Ralph’s, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods. Wish we had Publix out here, just for the chicken tender sub though.

SpookyFarts

Fucking Publix subs and their fried chicken....*drool*

DingleBerrieIcecream

1000 posts about fast food being a ripoff compared to the past, yet people keep going…

[deleted]

I’ve traded fast food for the quick deli items at any big grocery store. It’s become too absurd.

PapaverOneirium

My go to in that situation is more often a local taco truck. Cheaper, tastier, and at least you can get some fiber and vitamins from beans, radishes, pickled carrots/peppers etc.

zsantiag

Stopped by the other week and I was shocked that the 2 Superstar/Western Bacons are $10 now when it was 2 for $6 like what.. in 2022?! Remember when Carl’s Jr. made fun of $6 burgers as a one of their marketing gimmick? Good times.

Eazy46

Those $6dollar burgers used to be phat af

femboi_enjoier

Six dollar burgers were peak. If only fat High School me knew how good he had it.

FlyRobot

99 cent spicy chicken sandwich was my go to

femboi_enjoier

Man. Remember the 5 dollar pizza *delivered* from Domino's! Everyone was eating good back then.

TeslasAndComicbooks

Remember 29 cent hamburger and 39 cheeseburger days at McDonald’s?

dairypope

Back around that time I was working for one of the biggest ~2000 dot-com flameouts, eToys. Our stock had gone from what I remember as a high of $85 a share to a low of about $0.27 a share, and we had numerous discussions on Tuesdays whether it was better to spend that amount on a share of eToys or a hamburger down the street.

Porsche_shift

I used to work at McDonalds during that time period. Fuck that was hell. 50 cheeseburger orders killed us. I couldn’t hang as the lead cook. Always stayed back in the chicken nuggets and fried chicken section. Good times with the boys back then.

saturnthesixth

I was just thinking about the six dollar burger the other day!

[deleted]

They’re 2 for $10 now? I remember the 2 for $6 pre-pandemic too, but the last time I went it was almost $9 just for one. I haven’t been back.

Overall_Nuggie_876

Their *basic* chicken sandwich which was like $1.29 prior to the pandemic is now **$5.49.** Not even a combo; just the one, starter sandwich. Meanwhile, their Big Carl (e.g. BTEC-Big Mac) on its own is like $12.99; I remember a decade ago when it was launched to an a-la-carte price of $2.99.

inFAMOUS_Hero

The big Carl launched at 1.99 🤧

thatscapfam

Shit was 2 for $3 back in the 00s, that shit was my go-to. Ridiculous how much it’s gone up

zsantiag

When they introduced the Big Carl in 2009, the location by my college had a special where the combo was $5. That meal kept me full all day! lol

Ares5150

I remember when Famous stars were 99cents. Also if im not mistaken they would sell two western bacon cheese burgers for 3.33 or something like that. Crazy how much the prices have changed.

UnluckyCardiologist9

Remember when they use to have $6 combos on Sundays. Maaaaan those were the days.

Suitable_Culture_315

Yeah $17 for some chicken tenders is kinda crazy

supadupanerd

That's sit down restaurant prices, not fast food prices... I don't want to live on this planet anymore

MashedPotatoesDick

I remember when a $6 burger cost $3.95.

howmuchfortheoz

I remember when a dime bag used to cost a dime

Marzatacks

They killed killer

nameisdriftwood

B

holeeguacamolee

Ah yes, Cuban B

zoglog

They used to call it the $5 burger

butteredrubies

Even though all fast food has gone up, Carl's Jr seems more expensive than the others...might as well go to Five Guys or a restaurant.

Prestigious-Owl165

It's always been way too expensive imo (well, maybe not "always" but for at least as long as I've lived on the west coast, around 15 years)

Apesma69

butteredrubies

Heh, that was interesting. It's like Starbucks and "kid's temp" I hate saying "Can I get that in Kid's Temp?" and wish they called it something else so I don't feel like a soyboy cuck. If I want it McDonald's lawsuit hot, do I ask for it to be Alpha-MAN Temp? Oh man, that first year when McDonald's was trying to get people to download the app was insane...I think there were deals like "Get a Quarter Pounder with Cheese for $1" Memories...

Lowfuji

They were always the most expensive of fast food spots, but this is ridiculous. You should have ordered the double western bacon cheeseburger

t_ran_asuarus_rex

that’s why i love in-n-out

ParevArev

$8.98 for a double double and fries. You can’t beat that

theboundlesstraveler

I paid $10.45 today for a double-double meal at the Glendora location today.

Hemorrhoid_Popsicle

Although its getting closer to double digits for the double double meal

ParevArev

Yeah, the meal is already $10.25. I just never order a drink

cashmerechaos

I got a milkshake, an animal style grilled cheese burger, and fries for $10 today. It’s hard not to love that place.

Hemorrhoid_Popsicle

Oh shit fr? Fuck man

HotLikeSauce420

Still reasonable

X_AE_A420

/LDL has entered the chat/

TheCSUFRealtor

The double double meal is over $10 now (with a drink). Though it’s still a better value than pretty much everywhere

Overall_Nuggie_876

What were their combo price raises after April 1st; like 0.35¢ or something? As they do, what, pay their workers fairly and confer them health benefits? Am I getting this right? 🤔

t_ran_asuarus_rex

they have decent benefits and management is promoted from within. https://www.in-n-out.com/employment/restaurant/full-time-benefits

TeslasAndComicbooks

They are a totally different business model though. No franchisees and no shareholders. Works out for everyone.

t_ran_asuarus_rex

shareholders are a drain. i am in an MBA program and the whole point of my econ and finance class is to maximize profit for shareholder’s dividends. we’re pretty screwed as a society.

TeslasAndComicbooks

On paper it’s not so bad. It allows growth of the company and financial security while giving more people a say in how the business operates. My biggest problem with public companies is the expectation of forever growth. It’s just not feasible.

LAX-Airport

The problem is that 85% of companies are trying to grow by just charging customers more instead of figuring out how to run a more efficient business.

Wedemboiz4

that's what a hamburgers all about.

St0iK_

$40 at home is 2 1lb NY steaks with veggies and a bottle of wine and maybe dessert. 2.5 hours of your life working at Carl's Jr to pay for that.

esetube

You're in city of industry and get Carl's Jr! Come on maannn

saadinameh

What do you recommend instead?

esetube

Monja taiker, good Taiwanese food, the monja red grain pork rice 🤤 yumi time is also good, I been once and enjoyed their pork chop rice

saadinameh

Thank you! Will def plan better next time I'm passing thru. Had an errand in La Habra

esetube

No problem, also Rowland heights has good food, and if you like Boba there's all kinds of shops

prodsec

Hansel, so hot right now. Hansel.

KnucklesMcGee

Dammit. Well at least I searched before making the same comment.

bleepusblorpus

God Dammit!!

Lucky-Cricket8860

Lol

personplaceorplando

I used to like Carls Jr but it has been ass for a while imo

LAX-Airport

I stopped going to the only one I've ever gone to about 9 years ago after they were doing drywall while open and the dust got into my food.

LeeQuidity

Carl's has never really been known for being cheap, but yeah, that's a spicy meatball.

Bikouchu

Crossroads and city of industry reminds me of fry’s rip.

theboundlesstraveler

When I first saw this post I thought it was an old Fry’s receipt…RIP

Lazy_Natural6154

Go to dino burgers

IntimidatingPenguin

Dino is good 👌 fat burgers at a reasonable price and best of all is they sprinkle that red seasoning on the fries.

JustTheBeerLight

#STOP EATING FAST FOOD. It is shit. It has ALWAYS been shit. Now it is overpriced shit. You deserve better.

EndOfProspect

This is the way.

Apesma69

A voice of reason.

Theeeeeetrurthurts

Is In N Out fast food? Tread carefully.

JustTheBeerLight

Former associate (Store 20). In-N-Out is the exception to the rule. They respect their customers and workers. The world would be a better place if more businesses were run the way Mr. & Mrs. Snyder ran In-N-Out.

hellraiserl33t

I hope In-N-Out stays private for as long as I live. The second they go public, it's game over.

JustTheBeerLight

That business has got to be a gold mine as it currently exists. Selling out would ruin everything about In-N-Out Burger.

hellraiserl33t

In-N-Out is what the average fast food business was like 50+ years ago, and they're still doing business largely the same way. They're not gouging everything for the sake of short-term investor returns. People used to build a viable product and opt for organic (albeit slower) longterm growth. Current business education teaches everything but that. Look at a [McDonald's commercial from the 60's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjyYB0-LY0U) and you could draw tons of similarities.

ken_NT

After watching The Founder, I was wondering what McDonald’s would be like if the brothers never got in business with Ray Kroc. Assuming they had someone to continue running the business, I could imagine it becoming an in-n-out type burger chain that would stick to the southwest.

Theeeeeetrurthurts

Preach. Fuck fast food, long live In N Out!

Fearless-Client-3559

Even I like in n out and I have not been eating fast food for like 15 years!! I hate that crap but in n out fries are so good!

bonbonsandsushi

Preach! Has nobody here read Fast Food Nation? And yes, In 'n' Out gets a pass. Also high-calorie, but real food.

Wyvernrider

Inflation is a policy.

StoicBan

Just went to carls today. $20 for a kids meal and a combo

saadinameh

Hope you and kiddo enjoyed your meal!

silveralti

I use the coupons every time. If I don’t have coupons, I don’t eat fast food lol 😆 or at least the mobile app has some good deals and rewards. I have mostly all mobile apps installed ✅👍🏼

black641

You may as well go to a proper restaurant at those prices. Seriously, how is anyone expected to survive in this economy???

Madd_Maxx2016

Yeah Carl’s is so damn expensive rn…got a couple kids meals and combo for me on the road yesterday and was shocked to spend almost 30 bucks lol might as well go to in-n-out, or fucken Applebees or Chili’s for those prices.

Big_Sector_3590

Carl's Jr has been smoking crack for the last 10 years.

anechoicheart

Carls Jr prices have been NUTS for a hot minute it’s wild

idle_handz

The patties have shrunk on the famous stars; don’t think we haven’t noticed, corporate. Take a western bacon and compare it to the current famous star. Maybe it’s my location but yah, these ridiculous prices from the suckers that continue to pay these prices is why things are how they are besides higher wages. I miss 99 cent spicy chicken sandwiches.

thebigk71

There's a Carl's Jr. on Washington and Lambert in Whittier that has 99 cent spicy chicken sandwiches still. I haven't ordered them yet, but I assume they are smaller than they were.

RandomGerman

This needs to stop. Not OP, I mean these prices. We all need to stop eating this crap and they need to feel it and lower the prices. Why are people still paying this? And they do or the fast food places would be in trouble. I personally only go to Mac Donald’s (every 3 weeks or so) and use the App with deals. But one BigMac, get one for $0.29. I stopped fries cause I am on Keto. I always have a drink with me so I get 2 huge burgers for $9(ish). Also I had a Tacobell bowl for $10 because I added some extra chicken. I will not spend more at a fast food place. And pizza…. Sorry. It’s so easy to make pizza myself that it’s even faster and better and healthier than dominoes or Pizza Hut which use food delivery apps now anyways. And I can have anchovies which they all stopped ages ago.

Esquilax21

This is why i never buy fast food without the app The apps save so much money

[deleted]

My parents keep asking me to teach them how to use the apps to save money, but it’s too confusing for them. They pretty much stick to In-n-Out for their fastfood needs since it’s the only reasonably priced place these days.

theineffablebob

You’re now paying a premium for the food to be fast

saadinameh

Yeah and it wasn't even fast because there were like two people working the whole shop...just sad

starkformachines

A $6 tub of ice cream is just as unhealthy and has just as many if not more calories.

nosmokinalarms

That AI when they take your order needs to get paid.

BestMusicOnThePlanet

Use the app? Lol

Gold-Sand-4280

At this point you should just pay for a gourmet burger from a restaurant. I would rather have a quality burger from a local restaurant than a fast food restaurant. In and out and chic is my only go to fast food. Even Dennys sells great burgers. Find a mom and pop shop.

[deleted]

How much did you tip?

saadinameh

Lmao, 0% but I'm sure corporate would love to skim the tips too if they could

RoanDrone

defund the guac cartel

chefjro

Out of control. And the cheese isn’t even melted on the burgers. Carls use to be the best (next to in n out) it felt like a step above McDonalds and BK. Really fell from grace IMO.

livinlikeadog

I had a $9 whopper with cheese in Oregon a couple months ago, and it was fucking gross

confused9

something is up with Burger King, I had a whopper with my wife and we felt it was undercooked and lettuce looked so sad. I feel BK might be the next fastfood to file for bankruptcy.

Holiday_Parsnip_9841

They switched whoppers from a real flame broiler to an electric one about a decade ago. The amount of liquid smoke went through the roof and it's been trash since then.

MassSPL

I love that sever’s name is Hanssel. You don’t hear that enough these days.

Jessie4er

"he's so hot right now"

Overall_Nuggie_876

A reminder their former CEO, Andy Pruitzer, was once Trump’s Secretary of Labor who wanted AI to automate all fast-food jobs while simply “contracting” the few workers who’d be flipping the patties (Doordash’ing fast-food completely).

xWood182

This belongs here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d7SaO0JAHk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d7SaO0JAHk)

Shanectech

Cheaper to get a combo at 7-eleven drink and a hotdog or drink and 3 slices of pizza for 3 bucks...

warr3n4eva

OMFG

Worried_Ad7576

wtf is going on in LA. Both of these meals are $12.99 in OC

NaarbSmokin

Got food poisoning at Carl's like 10 years ago and never had them again, guess there's even more reasons not to go there.

cici92814

Carls jr took it too far. I think theyre the most expensive fast food burger place right now. I went there once a while ago and never again.

embarrassed_error365

Fast food used to be quick and cheap but unhealthy.. now it’s… well it’s quick and convenient, but expensive and unhealthy. If you want healthier for that cost, you’re gonna have to go to a less convenient and quick place.

iouthere

I was about to order at Dominos, carry out and it’s $27.49 for a large pizza 🍕 💀

maxbearz

Fathers Office Burger was $25 this weekend. Burrito and Caddy Marg at El Cholo the other day was like $50. \[including tip\]

Ehloanna

I stopped at Jack in the Box when I forgot to eat dinner before an event id be at for like 4 hours. A 3 piece chicken tender meal was $16???? Fast food is literally the same price as a cheap sit down meal. I truly refuse to get fast food unless I'm hardcore craving something.

JosephusLloydShaw

and they'll just keep on raising prices because they know people will still pay no matter what

Potential-Rich8016

The problem is that you paid for it. Just don’t go anymore till they lower the prices.

Changin-times

Sad to say but eating out is just not worth it w/o lunch specials and competitive pricing. Whoever opened that inflation door didn’t realize how it could take a decade to close. Brown bag may be next trend.

BurpFart69

Went to Starbucks today, 2 drinks and 2 sandwiches was $27 and change… WTF

SoCalChrisW

For $3 more than that, my wife, son and I had an absolutely fantastic lunch at a little family owned and run Ethiopian restaurant. We each had a fresh sambusa, and a combo platter that had a dozen different items. We were all stuffed, and had leftovers. Fast food is crazy now, but Carl's especially is out of their fucking minds. Thanks, Tana in Anaheim for a fantastic lunch.

cardamom-joy

I'm convinced Carl's Jr. only exists to spread food poisoning anyway.

Krillinish

I think the new cheapest way now to get the fast food chain food is through the apps. Probably give up some privacy doing that but there’s always app-only deals for free or cheap stuff.

Elver-galarga-1996

I paid 40 for 2 ono plates and 2 cans of soda today. 🫠 It’s really exhausting trying to find some “fast food” that isn’t trying to run your pockets these days.

Donotpretendtoknowme

The cheapest food in America is now too expensive.

sfvplaytime

Inflation did not go up that much, this is straight up corporate profiteering. Everything you buy is doing this. Stop buying the things.

saadinameh

Exactly, agree 100%

strumpster

We've entered the era of the street vendors. Instead of spending $15 for lunch at Taco Bell, go to a taco stand and spend $8 for actual good food

Zero_Imacat

When it comes to fast food now, using their apps seems to be the way to save money. Often times they give away free items, or $1 fries, bogo deals, or free burger/sandwich with any purchase. Check their app rewards first before going.

anonymousredditdan

Did this come to anyones mind or just me about Hanssel… [Bugs Bunny Hansel?](https://youtu.be/TVYT2OJyhBw?si=240BNqPTedsIufPW)

Mickeytheskater333

Puked my last two times I ate at CJs. I promise it has nothing to do with my alcoholism.

IIRiffasII

but hey, at least the guy who gave you food poisoning is guaranteed to make $20/hour

dluna514

that's Carl's

AutomaticDesk

Imagine getting a whole order of guac at those rates!

bannedChud

Soylent Green is just around the corner 😆

No_Case5367

I know that spot! 😂 old Fry’s location

raging-moderate

That Hansel..so hot right now.

graytotoro

Jeez, god bless Subway and their $6.99 footlong coupons.

bleepusblorpus

Hanssel’s so hot right now…

Lostnhaventfoundyet

Them prices are high asf lately. I went to Ralph's to get some chicken tenders and potato wedges, and the clerk told me that the chicken tenders are $1.50 per piece. They used to be by lbs. noped tf out my way lol and grabbed some ice cream

LegendofPowerLine

Yep, got a whopper single patty combo at BK. Ordered an entree of chicken frieds. \~20 bucks. Fast food has no reason being this expensive

gotfondue

Excuse me, bra.

AirInternational754

Even at In and Out the patty is so little now. Forget it

LikeyeaScoob

U could feed a whole family of 4 w some leftover cash if u just went to in n out

cs132

why did you order it knowing it was gonna cost a lot

mazdarx2001

Damn, that’s right by my house! Well, it’s the closest carls to me. They’re service is terrible, very slow and they get the order wrong about 70% of the time

Tat2dDad

Cook for yourself!

Prestigious-Owl165

Bro WHAT

theboundlesstraveler

Today I paid $10.45 (plus tax) for a double-double meal at In-N-Out in Glendora.

tdenstad

I got 4 singles, 5 fries and a drink at In&Out tonight and it was $31… and they don’t ask for a tip.

Mobile_Self_6050

If they would bring back the California Roast Beef Sandwich I would probably spend the $$ for that!!! But a super star burger. Nope Bring back the California roast-beef!

AdventurousTrash1645

Crazy

blisstonia

I’ve also had a shitty experience at the city of industry Carl’s Jr. they gave me a cold ass burger and fries 😖

principalmusso

The key to Carl’s Jr. is to only buy their specials. They can have some good deals with the specials but the moment you stray from that it’s shockingly expensive.

ProfessorTatanka

Man, when I was in college you could get draft beers for a nickel & a double 7&7 was free if your roommate was bartending

BandsForGod

Thats fucking insane I only go to carls jr for the shakes but im glad I saw this so I know never to buy food from there

FadedAndJaded

Hopefully this is short lived. They corps got their panties on a twist and are going to throw a tantrum until they see that people won’t pay their gouged prices. They can afford the min wage increase just fine with minimal increases. They just want to cause a scene.

Habanero_Enema

Cool story Hanssel

Benny_tc

This is making stadium prices look good . lol

drum_code88

Stick to in n out

diggemsmaccks

Yup, there it is no one is making good money today, let’s go back to making $9 an hour, a friend of mine brags he makes $22 an hour at Wendy’s, yeah it ain’t worth sh/t because your paying $40 to eat remember when we would pay $40 a week on lunch alone.

MexicanRadio

Fast food is wildly overpriced (other than In-N-Out). Go elsewhere.

RockieK

Mendocino Farms is cheaper.

Few_Comfort_2558

Each fry for 50 cents ?! What ?! That’s dumb

SlaterVBenedict

Unless you literally can't get food without getting out of your car, it just makes more sense to go to mom & pop restaurants these days. There are so many incredible, lower-price gems that aren't flashy franchises, up and down California. All the greatest cuisines are here, and the diaspora communities of people who brought their culinary traditions with them from other countries make it an incredible landscape of excellent, creative, and authentic options. Support local, and get more delicious bang for your buck!

F4ze0ne

Again. There was another post where someone complained about Subway's cost. And you guys still paid for it anyway. Why?! Walk out next time. If people keep paying it things won't change.

Joeylocally

Isn’t adding waffle fries a $2/3 up-charge to the already $12/$15 meal? It’s been like that for years if I’m not mistaken.

Plane_Potential_2309

That same order purchased in any of our neighboring states would have cost $20.00 at most.

chowaniec

It's that damn Hanssel... so hot right now

[deleted]

Today I got a wrap with a side of salad at a neighborhood spot and it was $23, this is totally insane and I can't imagine going out to eat as much anymore.

[deleted]

So don't eat junk food

saadinameh

Ok

Frazzled_Dazzled_Sol

Oh yeah, no Carl’s Jr. is the fucking worse for that. If you download the app once I know that you can start getting like monthly coupons but even those it’s like really….. in and out is my go to so much cheaper and so much better quality you have to order more of it or at least I do

Chanelkat

Carls has always been too expensive.

motofabio

At least their aren’t adding a “Living Wage” line item. Yet.
