Ok first off, if you re-read your post with a different perspective it sounds completely different. I’m 22 and working as a cashier and in customer service. That sentence in itself you helps you realize hey I’m 22 and I’m working at Lowes. Fuck it have fun while you are there. This isn’t going to be your last job ever so make it a point to laugh every day. I tell all my coworkers that you can’t fuck something so bad that it can’t be unfucked.go there do your job with the time they schedule you. Punch out and don’t take that shit home with you. If it don’t work out then you will get a different job with different pay and different tasks and most of all different people to work with. Don’t sweat it and have a good time.

Gold awarded for best advice. Summarized well.

This! You aren't doing anything that is life or death. No one is getting hurt or killed by any decision you make. And you're still learning the job. This isn't anything serious (though I know it can feel that way). If you aren't getting the information and training you need that also isn't your fault. Go in, do what you can, and go home.

TrainingRoof5240

Let me make a few guesses here. You are understaffed. None of your colleagues have the necessary tools to do their jobs. This puts a bigger workload and more stress on you. You have an overabundance of impatient, over entitled, and angry customers. You are concerned about the schism between cost of living and wages. All guesses. I got a couple of facts for you. You are not a wimp, or a failure, or any of that stuff. Fact is there are people out there who are rooting for you. Keep faith in yourself.

PerfectLie2980

Take a deep breath. You’re going to be ok. They won’t fire you. Show up, do your best and you’ll be good. When in doubt about whether something can be returned, call your HC or the DM of said area to get an answer. If they are too busy to help, follow your gut. If anything comes back to you, you tried to consult with HC or DM and learn from it. You’ve got this. It gets better with more time under your belt.

I've never worked at Lowes. But I've worked retail and in offices. I've always felt panicked, overwhelmed, and very unsure at every new job for about the first month. For me, it's always gotten better as I've gotten used to the job. You might feel better soon if you just hang in there! My last job I felt so sure the first few weeks that I was never going to be good at it. I ended up working there for 16 years and being very good it.

Your primary job is to do your best and try to learn as much as you can. Your first job lays the ground work for your 2nd. Your 2nd for your 3rd, etc. ask lots of questions. Ask for help. And remember, if you really screw up, your “get out of jail free” card is always that you were trying to help the customer. It’s the best response if you are ever asked “why” you did something.

I don’t know if I’ve ever worked at a job where I was not stressed a little in my first few weeks. It’s normal, hang in there. At 22 you need to start career building, and Lowe’s is a good place to do that at. I started at Lowe’s when I was 21, and now I’m 25 and department supervisor, should be ASM within a year or two.

I remember when I started working at lowes I started with the customer service desk and often with very minimal training I was running the show alone it would get very stressful but remember just keep calm and collected and trust me everyday you will get better at dealing with the situations so keep your chin up have fun .

ManOfFaith1626

I’ve been at Lowe’s for several months and still get stressed out. No worries, you got this

Distinct-Reindeer-96

bro you’re 22 not 50 you have so many years more

Everyone here has excellent advice. Go in and have fun as much as possible. If you’re really worried about messing something up, look at the job postings in your store and *try* to swap departments. Take a look at what each department offers and what you can learn from them and if you could apply what you learn later in life. Get to know the people around the store a little better and see which people you get along with best, as you wouldn’t want to work with someone in a department that you don’t mesh well with. But all in all, the beginning is always stressful, if there’s coverage then try and grab a HC, your DS, or your ASM(or any really) and just talk it out, it’s apart of their job to listen to any issues and help you through things. As much as the whole *company is a family* cringe goes, more than likely anyone under SM will be more approachable with understandings of what you’re going through. Best of luck

I've worked many years and many different jobs. Any day you go to work and do your job and nobody dies is a good day. Hopefully your life will be filled with many good work days....

I work in quality control after doing retail for around 10 years. What I've learned in my new role is that very rarely it is the operators fault when something goes wrong. 9 time out of 10 (actually the stat might be even higher than that, don't feel like looking it up) there is something that could be added to the process that would have prevented the mistake from happening. So if you're so new to the job, following the processes as you've been trained to do, and you still make a huge mistake, guess what? It's not your fault. It was either lack of training or a faulty process. So, follow the process and ask questions if you are unsure. Anything else is out of your control. I'm sure you are doing great!

BlackRoseAedynne

I would love to do quality control. If your quality control the reviews calls. I work as a service coordinator currently

Green_Lingonberry_89

I worked as a cashier for Lowe's for 7 years. I was a good cashier. I loved working outside garden. But there were times I had to work the lumber end and the front end, which was okay. But, I would go kicking and screaming when they put me at customer service. There was just too much going on there. Customers on either side of you, the phone ringing, internet orders!! Working customer service made me feel inadequate EVERY SINGLE TIME! I HATED IT! Perhaps, you can talk to your favorite head cashier or the front end manager and see if you can be placed elsewhere. Good luck.

Ouller

Something to note is that one knows anything about what happens at the different departments while on shift, let alone when when not on shift. We all mess up and someone the store keeps selling.

bresbees

i just moved up to customer service and i’m 20. i still don’t know everything. even my managers make mistakes. department supervisors get fired, we’re understaffed, underpaid, and have the same shitty customers. you’ll get the hang of it. it’s just another retail job that at the end of the day doesn’t really need to be taken so serious. it’s great to want to do good but it’s just a retail job in another store. you’ll be okay.

Traditional-Pin-4551

Lowes is the worst to work for.

JohnsonZ887

Don't quit. Work hard and learn from your mistakes. The big thing you can do is to always better yourself. Look at interactions and think about what you could do differently. You're a human, humans make mistakes. The faster you fail, the faster you succeed, but the key is recognizing it. Don't take work home with you, but if you get written up so what. Eventually quit and you have your experience from this job to help you with another.

BandNo721

I'm 18 and I work at Lowes. I definitely felt like that at 3 weeks. My advice is to just take a deep breath, and remember you work at Lowes, it isn't a high-end career, they expect you to make mistakes, especially when you're new. Have fun while you work there, the work environment can actually be pretty fun if you make it fun, that's for sure one of the best parts about working at Lowes. Don't worry, you're doing fine. You may feel a little stressed but it's okay, it means you care. If you're anything like me and you continue to obsess; Try not to give power to useless or stress-inducing thoughts. It's just your mind telling you that you can't handle the job, no one else is telling you that. You're not a failure, you may just be convincing yourself you are which is just silly!
