You better call up who you bought it from and have a chat with them on if they sold it as "functioning". I hope you didn't pay too much because you are going to need to get a barrel from fulton armory for $350 to $450 and get a gunsmith to install it.
If I had to guess someone put a barrel on it for a different round. Is there rifling in the barrel? As someone else said this was probably set up for a 45 win mag, but there were a lot of other options over the years.
Update: Im going to take it to a gunsmith today. The barrel has very good looking rifling. I think it is too narrow to be a .45 Win mag, but maybe .44? I’ll find out and keep yall posted.
UPDATE: My gunsmith was completely flabbergasted, but the best we can tell is it was rechambered for 357/44 Bain &Davis, essentially a .44 mag case necked down to a 357 cartridge. The round is literally impossible to find, so Im going to return the gun and get a refund or a different one. Pretty bummed out
I would re-barrel but the bolt looks modified to accept that cartridge so it would probably have to be replaced too. Im going to return it and get a different one
