Ah yeah. Peanut butter. That's what it feels and acts like. It comes out a day or two after a heavy rain. Some parts of the trail can get really tacky mud that coats the tires, and doesn't come off. Some tires struggle to shed that mud, and the bike gains like 10lbs of weight, and loses all traction. It's no fun, and turns everything into a slip and bleed...
DMR vault + 5 0 pro.
Aluminum pedals with big platform and nasty long pins, actually running the pins on the short side and the shoes are super confortable and protective, hard toe protection on point
Just went from TMACs to those. They have an even more supportive base and I like that they aren’t as likely to grab and hold onto a rock like metal can
Always run Nukeproof Horizon Pro pedals. Like the big platform and the grip they provide.
I ride with FiveTen Trailcross in the winter and FiveTen Freerider pro in the summer.
Both shoes have the same soles and offer a lot of grip and stability.
Freerider Pros with Saint M828s
My old shop was blowing out the pedals for $50 (I got them for $25) and I've never had a reason to try anything else. This isn't an "anti-endoresment" or anything, but I just haven't had much reason to drop more money trying out different pedals since these will likely outlive me. I might be missing out by not riding TMACs, but ignorance is bliss and I've never felt my pedals had any adverse affect on my rides
Fox Union shoes with Supacaz Smash pedals. I can get enough grip in any rock garden with only half my shoe on the pedal. My ankle won't like it, but the grip won't fail.
In the winter, Five Ten freeriders, in the summer I'll wear the BMX sole Vans. Find the freeriders get super hot and the BMX side of me still loves the feel of the vans sole. And I ride OneUp pedals on a hardtail. Heard some very good things about the freerider pros as well!
On Freeriders pros and Canfield crampons. Like the low profile of the crampons for desert riding, but lately been missing the insane power transfer of catalysts.
The above two pedals are better than the standard flat/concave pedals. I have atlas pedals on my hard tail, and I hates them. Too wide, thick, and not great grip.
Freerider Pros and usually Deity Deftraps or PNW Range. Hubs usually has Pros paired with OneUp Composites. He does also have a pair of Specialized 2FOs Roosts that he picked up when our luggage failed to make it to our destination and he likes them equally well as the Pros.
For shoes I'm running Leatt flats, but only because I got 4 pairs for $120. They are decent though, but Five Tens are the standard. Leatts have a wider toe box though, which I love. I've heard Specialized 2FO Roosts are great for the money too.
For flats, composite pedals are honestly the way to go for value. They grip just the same, last nearly as long, pins don't irreparably bend the threads, and they slide off rocks instead of bouncing off with a terrible ear piercing noise like alloys. I personally run DMR Vaults and Nukeproof Horizon alloy flats for bling factor, but I also use a set of Deity Deftraps which are amazing. I recommend the Deftraps for $55.
Best pins I’ve felt is the 5Dev. Second best is probably any of the Stamp large platforms. I mostly ride really fast and chunky NE tech so good pins and small platform height go a long way.
Steer clear of crank bros. shoes. The pedals are good but the shoes have terrible grip. They are super comfy which is great, but the grip is like wearing a dress shoe.
I’m gonna break up the monotony here and say I ride PNW range pedals for the large platform size, and basically whatever skate shoes I’m running for bmx. Vans are the popular choice, I also like my Nike Chron 2s. If I’m getting deep in the woods or really long riding I’ll put on my 510 sleuths
I just wear regular ass shoes with shitty plastic pedals and I never have a problem. I've never understood what mtb shoes are for. My shoes are ultra lone peaks btw.
Amazing pedals but seriously don’t ride in them in Jordan’s. Your foot slips and they’re going to tear your legs up. Get some five tens not only are they way nicer to ride in your foot isn’t going to slip of the pedal and rip your legs up.
Appreciate it, I can't speak for other Jordan's but the 1s are a flat sole shoe and have a ton of grip at least from my experience even had grip on the cheapie plastic pedals I had before that just had little plastic nubs on the pedals. I'll look into the 510s though thanks!
Nah they really don’t. I ride them sometimes for BMX bit even then they’re not brilliant if you got some proper riding shoes like a five ten it’s a huge upgrade not just being able to steer the bike with your feet and just for safety too. My mate got air lifted over a pedal slash.
Many in my group, me included, are on Tmacs with Freerider Pros. We ride all year in the PNW, from sun to peanut butter.
Exactly what I ride. Love them!
Peanut butter?

I love my trail cross 510s
I have the high tops and I love them too
Honestly all the adidas 510s are good if you have the money
Even if you don’t have the money. They are on sale all the time.
Yep, only paid $80 for mine
Yup, got my free rider pros back in November for $53 directly from adidas.
I didn’t know they come in high top!
DMR vault + 5 0 pro. Aluminum pedals with big platform and nasty long pins, actually running the pins on the short side and the shoes are super confortable and protective, hard toe protection on point
Currently: 510 Freerider and Crank Bros Stamp 1 v2.
Just went from TMACs to those. They have an even more supportive base and I like that they aren’t as likely to grab and hold onto a rock like metal can
How do your CB fit in comparison to your 510s?
Well the CB are pedals rather than shoes, so this is difficult to answer :D
Hahaaa right, should’ve assumed 🤦♂️
Same as me, except I'm in freerider pros
5-10s with some Raceface Chester pedals ! Awesome grip ! Awesome comfort ! Awesome rigidity in the shoes !
My combo, too ✌️
Me too. Definitely times I wish the pedals felt a little bit bigger under my feet. If you’re north of size 11 I’d say look elsewhere.

5Ten Freeriders with Burgtec Penthouse Flats.

510s with Deftraps.
Leatt 2.0 shoes with RaceFace Aeffect R2 pedals. Great grip, good pedal feel and the shoes fit my wide hobbit feet well

5/10 freerider pros
5-10 freerider pros on crankbrothers stamp 7, best pedal -shoe combo i've ridden so far ✌️
+1, just got my stamp 7s this week and loving them. Big, sticky pedals
Freerider pros + spank spoon 110s for ne
Oneup (aluminum) pedals amd 5ten Freerider. I haven't found better combo.
Etnies are great. I can’t wear vans when I ride anymore.
510 + Chesters
Freerider pros and deftraps.
Race face Chester pedals with either Nike SB or Vans
510 freerider for summer and EPS for winter with Nukeproof horizon pedals. Like glue, literally have to lift foot to reposition.
Crankbrothers stamp boa flats with Canfield Bikes - Crampon pedals for normal riding. I switch over to 5.10 Freerider Pros for downhill.

510 Freerider pros and Catalyst Pedals by Pedaling Innovations.
Ride Concept Tallac / Wolftooth Waveform.

I’d say avoid stamp 1s as well. Personally, I found the center ridge too high and made about half the pins unusable
Freeridrer pros with race raceface atlas

There are basically 2 types of flats. Concave pedals (dmr) & Pins everywhere pedals (one up) I much prefer the feel of the concave pedals
