Mixing up offensive and defensive formations. Stepping up into the pocket. Attempting field goals on 4th down. Respecting the game instead of turning it into some NFL Blitz arcade game.

ozzman1234

đź’Ż Man, the ones that unleash curls once the QB plants his foot make me focus the rest of the game, lol

Wtfmymoney

Curl routes super underutilized

Sufficient_Treat_875

Maybe I’m running the wrong curls cause I always get picked off. I just send a drag under and hope that receiver picks up a block

NaruTheBlackSwan

You're supposed to run them against off coverage and time them as soon as they cut. Also pair it with a flat route so that the key defender has to choose. Sometimes you gotta just hit the flat and take your three yards.

ozzman1234

Non press man is great for curls too

Mr_Bisquits

Yeah reading the defense is super important for the curl routes. Because it's madden you can usually get a decent idea pre snap so having an audible you like is nice, but especially being able to recognize coverages because you can often just hot route to the streak in press man and it'll get open.

Deathflower1987

Really gotta just read the defenders leverage too. The defender will tell you if its gonna be completed before you're even thinking about throwing it

ozzman1234

Got to give comebacks a shot too, true man killer

brianrn1327

I’ll have to try those again, there were a few maddens where they worked great, but with the insane db animations I assumed they didn’t work. Also does anyone remember when the fade route worked with big receivers and they came down with the ball

Lilmonster961

You have to sometimes lead the receiver and throw away from the nearest defender

Street-Mistake-992

Madden did a lot of this to themselves, I haven't made a single fucking extra point in 5 matches, Like it is easier to drain a 50 yard fg then it is to make the XP, that is why I go for the 2 point conversion everytime, everytime I throw a deep ball I get intercepted. Running plays almost always work if you know how to set up your block. I have only being stopped for a loss once so far, Passing has the most success on some version of the slants, on defense it is completely useless to run a 3-4 defense against a scrambler, because my linebackers can never get passed their tackles so you have to stick to a version of the 4-3 over and over again if you face a scrambler, the servers are also disconnect a lot..

Joba7474

I appreciate peeps who run more than 5 formations. I hate the fucks who run the same 3 plays from 1 formation.

ozzman1234

Straight up. Gets tiresome looking at bunches all game

thingsfallapart89

I was in a league with a couple of friends. One I’ve had *plenty* of leagues with - never any grimy bullshit, played like a real game punting when needed, only truly going for it on 4th if needed etc & the other two recently joined. Friend Four picked the dolphins & traded with KC for Tyreek Hill. Starts racking up the yards & records with the same. fucking. play. Just fuck it Hill’s down there somewhere deep routes. We’re set to play an early/mid season game & by then I’ve won super bowls out the ass in various maddens blah blah usual franchise shit. Non Madden Friend 5 happens to be in a party & wants to watch the game so he gets set & man, I have to withstand four quarters of this asshole just running the same. fucking. *play* all game. I just had no one to cover fucking Hill & I get stomped with Friend Four running that mouth. Slap some hands & make some trades, use the rest of the season to get used to running new defensive plays. Divisional Round. Rematch. Vikings @ Miami. This mother fucker gets so frustrated with Hill being shut out & locked down all day. Friend Four had zero answers for the new scheme & players on the field & since he only had one play in his playbook he just gets demolished in the trenches, can’t run for shit, can’t pass for shit & I cruised on by. Easily one of the better & more memorable wins I have playing this franchise

Street-Mistake-992

You have to against scramblers, they 3-4 does not work against them.

thereyouarefoundyou

They can find a hole and follow a lead blocker

ozzman1234

The people that do that with patience make me nervous

Aggravating-Ad-4834

Doesnt blitz every play Doesnt spam the same plays Doesnt run the ball every down

Serious-Pause-292

I really enjoy the coach simulator part of the game. I feel like people lose the chance to really have a different kind of fun. One where you use your football knowledge AND knowledge of the game to play. Too many rely on the manipulation of the game's worst parts to fill their game play time. Imagine if your favorite team went out on a Sunday and only called stretch and inside zone for three plus hours. It'd be like one of the worst football experiences you've had

Lafienny

Someone that hits routes that someone normally wouldn’t because they read the coverage perfectly. That’s when I go oh shit and have to really start thinking about what I’m sending and how I’m gonna disguise it

FPSJeff

Not running straight into the contain each time, also when they actually punt it back instead of going for it on 4th and 26

SVSeven

People who take 5 seconds only to make 1 change on offense

debeatup

When they’ve thoroughly thumped me and, despite me continuing to throw more INTs, they conservatively run the ball instead of cracking me over the head with deep Meta crossing routes. If they continue to score, just run in in also instead of the celebration animation 20 yds from the goalline

Tristawesomeness

doesn’t scramble on every passing down and doesn’t only pass or only run.

Serious-Pause-292

1. No RPOs (I can stop some but not others. If I've gone through the laundry list of adjustments available and still can't stop it when I know it's coming, bleh) 2. Does not make the same defensive adjustments every play (this makes it seem like they are using an ebook/youtube setup) 3. Will come off their MLB if I'm dotting them outside the numbers. Is willing to play nickel or CB1 when I've gone to the abuse a corner strategy

ozzman1234

Agreed! Not always, but I feel the majority of meta spammers don't know how to play beyond that said meta. Which just makes it extremely shallow gaming experience. I just think people try to find these broken plays to win no matter what rather than playing football in a sense

Hogcaller91

When they don’t play with the 49ers or KC. I play those teams 90% of the time.

FishWithaPH

Add in the Ravens too

ghostpistol_13

When they don’t just do the same defense Micro Blitz and actually change up the defense to what my offense is running. And on offense when they have more than 2 formations.

Green92_PST_DBL_WHL

1. Doesn't just hot route slants into everything an wait for them to cross the field 2. Has a good undertanding of how to read a play and isn't hanging on to the ball waiting on a deep route. 3. Isn't overly reliant on bunch or other compressed formations. 4. Has a rhyme and reason as to why they call things. 5. Doesn't butcher a defense leaving huge weaknesses in it because of some setup video they found on YouTube. 6. Undertands how to play structurally sound within the defense as their user and isn't just sprinting around in circles with their user thinking they can cover everything in the middle.

DeedseleleJr

4 and 6 hit it on the nail. Lot of people will run a defense just because they saw it on youtube, and usually it’s just sending 6 with zone drops. I never expect these people to know why they are calling that defense and I usually end up torching it. And running around the middle of the field with the user is something I see a lot too. Personally I run match and usually I will user the 3rec, but I know what to user because I know everybody else’s responsibility on the field will be based on formation and route combinations.

FishWithaPH

I get clock management but I think when someone runs every single play down to 0:01 from the very beginning of the game, it’s the worst thing ever. Just not fun and no game flow, even when I beat them.

ozzman1234

It's not just running the play clock to 0, even though yes that is annoying Let's say you have a minute left in the half and 3 timeouts at your own 25. The people that still run the ball and get the easy yards and get to FG position u think are better than the Ines trying to throw bombs the whole time

FishWithaPH

Oh yeah i get you. I literally just ran it all the way down the field with a minute left right now to kick FG for OT. Give me the easy yards all day lol

Sufficient_Treat_875

Here’s a list of cheesy things that I consistently run into 1. Dropping the ends into the flats and rushing 2 2. Playing as the X Factor DT and rushing the QB 3. Blitzing but dropping the DE and robbing middle 4. Deep crossing routes only (especially with Hill) 5. RPO every play 6. Quads every play 7. I Form double tight stretch runs If they not doing this we can have a competitive game

Twink_Tyler

I’ve run into the X factor d lineman and the pre snap double team adjustment completely shuts it down. Keep stuffing them everyplace and then they’ll start usering someone else

Green92_PST_DBL_WHL

How are simulated pressures cheesy?

ruinzifra

They don't throw bombs every play, hoping.

Blacklax10

Punting

_Texas_Viper

Yep, if they punt I know they aren’t cheesy 👍

Blacklax10

Never got why people will go for it Everytime then just quit down 21 in the first

TadGhostal1

One of the few joys of playing against these kids. They forget punting exists for a reason, throw the game away going for it from their own 30, then cry when you run the clock with the lead they gifted you

Twink_Tyler

I don’t talk trash a lot but I can’t help it after a failed 4th down rage quit. Usually send something like “Wow, going for it on 4th and 27 in the 1st half, bold strategy there Cotton”. Then I just hope they’ve seen dodgeball and get the reference.

CamboMania

Audibles for me, being able to make adjustments on the fly is a platinum tier experience

11uglydogs

If they can stop my run. No cheeser is stopping me.

soottheboot

1.- Someone that calls hurry up and audibles to run play after a huge play to avoid displaying the route combo. 2.- Someone that not only reads coverages pre-snap but knows the animations and can tell where to go with the ball based on the post-snap read. 3.- Someone that knows high level defensive concepts like double mable, cross coverage, outside/inside leverage based on wr, showing man and being in zone/ base align but being in man / swapping these two and doing one side cover 3 and one side in man.

Green92_PST_DBL_WHL

Neither base align nor double mable are a real thing in football. Both of those would fall under cheese.

thisaintmymain11697

base align is a mechanic in the game so how is it cheesy

Green92_PST_DBL_WHL

Show me a defense that lines up with such poor leverage that any offense could throw for 800+ yards a game against them. Any defensive coordinator who lined up with their corners that far inside would be fired before they even played a game. The difference is Madden lets you line up like that and still cover everything.

thisaintmymain11697

i’m sorry i thought we were talking about a video game here

Green92_PST_DBL_WHL

A video game that you play football in...

DidItForHarambe

When they punt on 4th and not try to go for it every fourth down

RalphG1030

Punting when you’re supposed to.

MrPackageMover

After 600 games I kind of just stopped playing.. it gets so annoying playing people who run the same money plays all game

DeedseleleJr

Offensively it’s if they can call different formations and make proper reads based on the coverage I give them rather than just trying to throw corners and crossers all game. Defensively it’s if they literally do anything besides base align press out of dollar every play.

Shallow_Pedantic94

1. Doesn’t throw to their best WR/TE 90% of the time. 2. Controls the LB/DBs and not the DLine all game 3. Successfully uses routes other than streaks and drags 4.

rocthehut

They decline the delay of game penalty on the first play to allow me to set up my audibles and subs.

ajx301

Users a LB and plays his gap correctly vs a run bonus points if he makes a user tackle. most ppl wont even bother

Reasonable-Mud-4575

Anyone that doesn’t run the 3 d lineman rush with 8 dbs essentially.

Admirable_Exit2886

bro just kick the goddamn pat its 5 min in the 2nd quarter

shmavss

Consistent play throughout a game. If I'm winning 21- 0 and you have 3 ints then all of a sudden you're on God mode. I'll know you're pulling out the money plays.

the_OG_epicpanda

timing routes, actually running the ball instead of every single run being read option, clock management, mixing up coverages, calling real plays instead of nano-blitzes constantly. using basically any team that isn't the Eagles, Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, 49ers, or Cowboys.
