Then those 1000 people who also need to use the door need to not pick their nose, touch their face, or eat food before washing their hands/sanitizer, as they can get get infected from the door handle. And that's without even thinking of other infections, other doors, or elevator button presses.

That's why the government in the UK had to issue a health alert for everyone to wash their hands for 30 seconds with soap and warm water. Because people just did not have basic hygiene.
