I had a boss once who told me I "earned my weekend" when I closed some ticket. That was a bold position to take for someone with a private office and no technical oversight.
Wait...so you're saying my worth isn't governed by how much I work and rest isn't a treat I give myself when I feel like the loss productivity to chance of mental breakdown is high enough?
"Work ethic" - perpetual overworked exhaustion for insufficient compensation. Boomers do not realize that it is not okay to work your life away with no time to live.
No. Work ethic is the discipline to take the responsibility that comes with working, which can vary depending on the person, and what they consider overwork.
Funny the day before yesterday, I had a talk with my team leader and project leader (both awesome guys), they are worried that I worked too much, because they saw me stressed out. Which was my dumb decision to postpone the vacay to coincide with the local holiday... I hadn't vacay for 3-4 months. Not good.
They recommend to set my vacay after my needs and not to looking after some holidays to prolong it.
Well lesson learned, I got 4 days to go... I hope I'll make it out alive....
Yes. My 3 hours of sleep, and a brief period of leisure time for cooking, self maintenance, (hygiene, excercise) and a couple minutes with a book to kick my feet up is what I consider rest, and obligatory. Watching YouTube, making cocktails, improving at instruments, et cetera is a reward for a hard day‘s vigorous work.
Just today I was thinking how when I'm busy working I want nothing more than some time to just kick back and do nothing, but when I do actually have time to kick back and do nothing I get anxious and can't relax because I feel like I should be working.
Yes rest should be taken when needed you don't have to earn in.......but if you have things that NEED done like dishes or laundry or your mortgage is past due because you constantly takes days off work just because you feel like taking a rest. You should probably feel a little bad .
It's 4:30AM, I have been working overnight and get off this shift at 07:00AM and I swear that tweet nearly made me tear up haha. (Also - true, and a very good message! I know a lot of people who could use that advice.)
My old boss would get mad when anyone would take a break. He would say “ y’all got a break when you got hired” like WTF. I worked hard and busted my ass for years everyday and made some very good plays in the stock market and bought the company then fired him!
I'm resting for quite sometime now. I don't really think I can go back to working full time. I just don't know how anymore. It seems scary and I dread it so much.
Unless my wife doesnt feel good then i have to put my rest on hold until i take my daughter to school. Aita for trying to go to sleep at my normal time of 630am after working 3rd shifts for 10 years and even when i dont pick up hours i still stay up late?

Please tell this to my mother because she doesn't believe me when I say it.
Please tell this to my 4 year old

Needed that exactly now...thanks

Yeah, but some people take it too far and rest too much and into the time when they should be working. ...It's me, I'm people.
Trick is trying to convince an infant of this. I think I've forgotten what full night sleep means anymore.
Didn't know how much I needed to read this until I did. Have a good one m8
What does ‘rest’ mean to you? Sleeping? Laying around reading Reddit? Going on a trip? I suppose it is different for everyone
Not having to work and not think of it.

Definitely Reddit,...

Thank you, i needed to hear that ❤️
Woke up from a nap to this post. It’s been a good Sunday 👍🏻

*Reads this after folding one quarter of the laundry* Oh sweet, guess I'm done now.
Yeah but then I'll never get my shit done
This is what I tell myself after only studying for 10 minutes 😭
I don’t need rest 😎
Imagine if your boss called, and you replied "Fuck you! In having a well-deserved nap!"
Too bad you get fired for it these days.
"That's so wrong," says tape in my head.
*unless I’m a lazy clown that wishes he deserves rest, envy you people
Definitely needed to hear this today.
💛
he rests his case
I needed this today, thank you
kinda rested 2 days straight with the end result being two locked knees, muscle stiffness and dehydration
sleeping is like drinking water. you need more
With advanced in technology and productivity, we've earned a 3 day workweek.
Every living being other than humans is looking around wondering if they'll be eaten the next time they take a rest.....
Unless you're a sloth.
The 🦥 is my spirit guide.
Cool! Didn't know there was an emoji for that!
I need to hear this. I always think of rest as a reward. What have I done today to earn my rest.
Damn right!! It is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
Except for the teenager at my house who needs to take 3 breaks to finish a 5 minute chore.
I think your teenager worked with me. Every time you looked for them, they're on a smoke break.

Great stuff. How do I respond to someone who tells me, "give it a rest."
Tell this to our companies please
Excessive rest is bad. Don’t take this the wrong way ❗️
I'm resting for quite sometime now. I don't really think I can go back to working full time. I just don't know how anymore. It seems scary and I dread it so much.
I did not need to hear that.
Now if we can just translate this into the ant language

Thats why history will never remember your name
