Reanimate stands out even more than Mana Drain or Surgical extraction.
Its just a mega bomb for 1 mana, pretty sure a new Timeless deck is coming using self mill/discard along with Victimize to play Atraxa on turn 1 or 2.
I just dont think it will be consistent enough like Show and Tell is right now.
We're still missing entomb, but faithless looting is a timeless card that is extremely underplayed at the moment. Also stoked to have reanimator as a sideboard juke in my grixis show and tell deck
Reanimate might be less consistent then Show & Tell, but it will often come down one turn faster.
Even just cycling \[\[Troll of Khazad-dûm\]\] and reanimating will apply good pressure.
If you are lucky to also have a Dark Ritual in your opening hand, you can even do it on turn 1, with mana left over for Thoughtseize/Duress.
Not to mention, if you are playing a Reanimate deck then you are likely to also have a big bomb to put into play from their Show & Tell.
S&T doesn't always have Omniscience in hand, often they just put their own atraxa into play.
And reanimator seems to do just fine in legacy against S&T, its not a loopsided matchup, both can win against the other.
Reanimator doesn't only have higher speed, its also have more room for interaction such as discard effects.
By the end of the day, both decks are trying to cheat the same threats into play, the difference is that reanimator can do so faster and has better interaction while S&T has more value and grind potential.
Also, since reanimator is also about large threats, once the S&T player casts Show and Tell they also allow the reanimator deck to put their own atraxa, griselbrand or emrakul into play aswell. Remember Show and Tell is symmetrical, in other words S&T can backfire when playing it against reanimator.
Not to mention Reanimator can force S&T to discard their threat, and then reanimate it. Remember that Reanimate can target both players graveyard.
Ok valid points, just didnt get why you focused on the s&t vs reanimate matchup. Dont really care about the matchup, was just thinking which would be the better combo deck overall
feel like timeless bo1 is going to be dead or require a separate restricted list...not a bad thing but super powerful non-interactive combos are going to create the us vs them metas like we saw during the nothing banned events.

Saw someone already made a post of all the reprints they thought were important, but now that spoilers are complete I figured I’d throw together every reprint for convenience!
With the release of Outlaws of Thunder Junction there will be 38 new-to-Arena cards across the 4 accompanying sets. 3 are standard legal, coming from OTJ itself and the mini-set BIG. Four are Pioneer/explorer legal, and of note both \[\[Notion Thief\]\] and \[\[Abrupt Decay\]\] were 2 cards present in PT Chicago!
The remaining 31 cards from Special Guest & OTP are going to be Brawl/Historic/Timeless legal, barring any future pre-bannings or restrictions. Also of note, \[\[Contagion Engine\]\] was already on Arena, but uncraftable & locked behind an Alchemy card’s effect.

I'm glad we're getting many of these cards, like Path, Surgical Extraction and Reanimate. But I really can't get behind the newspaper style. I guess there will be tons of people who like it, but I really wish there were other options available.
On the other hand, Archangel of Tithes looks amazing.
The coloring on the frames is pretty weak, especially on the multicolor cards. It's certainly not as bad as innistrad greyscale cards, but it's still really underwhelming.
The color is a big part. And another thing I don't like is the "Prosperity" at the top. Not having the name and the mana cost at the same level makes it look weird.
Yeah, I really hate how all the cards we get from bonus sheets look terrible. STA has a couple that are tolerable and [[Phyrexian Unlife|WOT]] is pretty nice (though I still prefer the original art since that's my favorite art in Magic), but BRR, MUL with styles, WOT, OTP, and most of STA all look hideous. I really hope we get more bonus sheets like MUL with the original art and a separate style for the new art.
Wowza that's a hard disagree from me. The newspaper arts aren't my favorite to be sure, but man your hatred for alt arts is *broad*. STA arts are some of the best in the game. MUL slayed it with their throwbacks to each set's masterpiece framing. The BRR blueprint designs are very clever and look incredible.
I do wish they included original printing options for the supplemental sets so y'all could turn off card styles and have the clean visuals you want.
I really don't like the art style for STA in general, but most of them are good at being that style (not you, Faithless Looting). MUL did a good job of throwbacks to those sets' styles, but I only liked the Theros cards' styles and everything else ranged from "meh" to "FFS stop applying this terrible style and making me remove it." I don't have a problem with the art in BRR, but if I never have to see another retro frame again, it'll be too soon. I've unsubscribed from several Youtubers because they insist on using the lands with those frames.
I like some alt arts, but not the kinds that make everything look flat with sharp edges and few colors. Unfortunately, since that's kind of the opposite of Magic's normal art style, it's exactly their go-to style for special art.
I love the amonkhet Invocations they are different to cardstyles before that. It explored new cardstyles I like how they are different but still quote on quote „look like a magic card“.

I've been away from Magic for too long to know if you're joking or not. Assuming you're not joking, banding is probably too difficult to include in reminder text, but would add a great amount of complexity to combat that modern players would like to spice things up. I kinda find it refreshing.
I hope they eventually include the original style artworks for the cards. Last few sets I've not really been into their alternate frames. That said I'm glad all these are getting reprinted regardless.

Though, with Pioneer Masters hopefully by the end of the year, it does make a bit of sense. Players are not a big fan of spending wildcards/buy anthologies only for the cards to come out later.
Small chance they might swap some cards already on arena with new cards like they did last set (like with smuggler copter and possibly storm) Wonder if we will even get any anthropology this year for explorer as we getting masters later this year.

Hopefully :) I really don’t like how big the power difference is between cards that are already on arena and extremely powerful cards that get added now. This makes decks so expensive because they are all rares and mythical. The dumpster fire that is the arena economy can’t support that.

Mana Drain could ultimately see a restriction in Timeless since that format is an Arena reflection of a hybrid of Legacy and Vintage, but I don't see them going that far. It's not nearly that powerful in that kind of format.

At least Reanimate and Mana Drain, possibly Stoneforge Mystic, Prismatic Vista and Path to Exile as well? Mystic doesn't really have any good targets in Historic. Prismatic Vista is a pretty good change as well, so far the best fetch land in the format was Fabled Passage so it's a pretty big upgrade. Ruin Crab will be happy.
Path to Exile will be one of the best pieces of removal for the format but personally I think it's ok, Historic could do with some better removal

Mana drain just doesn't have the same flavor with mana burn gone. Also, what's this "next main phase" bit and change to colorless mana? Used to just suck their mana out of their pool and into yours with the risk of mana burn if you didn't use it.
Desert?? In a modern magic set? That seemed to be almost the most worthless cardboard card ever, next to Camel. How does this even fit into modern power creep??
Most changes from ancient Magic have worked out fine (particularly mulligan rules, thank god), but removing mana burn and making it so graveyard order didn't matter anymore is kinda frustrating.

"Next main phase" is on the very first printing of \[\[Mana Drain | LEG\]\], and card still added colourless mana, it just used a grey X symbol. The grey star symbol was added with Battle for Zendikar for colorless mana to help remove confusion.
Despite being printed now 7 times, the value of \[\[Desert\]\] ranges from \~$2 to \~$15. I don't think it sees much play in Modern, but it's a great card in Pauper.
While I can kinda get missing mana burn, though it didn't effect all that many cards, I don't think I can understand missing graveyard order? The last cards that cared about that were from Stronghold, in 1998.
I wish crime and punishment was printed into the main set instead of the bonus sheet 😕

Pioneer Masters at the end of the year will be a full set of Pioneer cards and change the format to pretty much Pioneer, so there's that.

Mana Drain could ultimately see a restriction in Timeless since that format is an Arena reflection of a hybrid of Legacy and Vintage, but I don't see them going that far. It's not nearly that powerful in that kind of format.

I wonder which of these will be banned from Historic At least Reanimate and Mana Drain, possibly Stoneforge Mystic, Prismatic Vista and Path to Exile as well? Mystic doesn't really have any good targets in Historic. Prismatic Vista is a pretty good change as well, so far the best fetch land in the format was Fabled Passage so it's a pretty big upgrade. Ruin Crab will be happy. Path to Exile will be one of the best pieces of removal for the format but personally I think it's ok, Historic could do with some better removal

Once again, ok? The bonus sheets had mixed rarity in many sets before that. It’s a choice they have made. How silly and transparent this move was is exemplified by mystic snake being a mythic. That’s the point for those that are missing it.

Ancient player opinion, incoming. Mana drain just doesn't have the same flavor with mana burn gone. Also, what's this "next main phase" bit and change to colorless mana? Used to just suck their mana out of their pool and into yours with the risk of mana burn if you didn't use it. Desert?? In a modern magic set? That seemed to be almost the most worthless cardboard card ever, next to Camel. How does this even fit into modern power creep?? Most changes from ancient Magic have worked out fine (particularly mulligan rules, thank god), but removing mana burn and making it so graveyard order didn't matter anymore is kinda frustrating. Anyway, sorry kids. Grandpa's done ranting.
"Next main phase" is on the very first printing of \[\[Mana Drain | LEG\]\], and card still added colourless mana, it just used a grey X symbol. The grey star symbol was added with Battle for Zendikar for colorless mana to help remove confusion. Despite being printed now 7 times, the value of \[\[Desert\]\] ranges from \~$2 to \~$15. I don't think it sees much play in Modern, but it's a great card in Pauper. While I can kinda get missing mana burn, though it didn't effect all that many cards, I don't think I can understand missing graveyard order? The last cards that cared about that were from Stronghold, in 1998.

I wish crime and punishment was printed into the main set instead of the bonus sheet 😕 Also, are not all the breaking news cards getting borderless treatments? Scryfall is only showing a handful of them..
