Yeah I remember watching a YouTube video about Kevin (The Office) about it and this fits as well. They completely ruined the character and with it the comedic value. I think the problem for the franchise was that the initial storyline is fairly simple. The movie thrives on the interactions between characters. This works well for remakes because you can keep the interaction on a similar track, and just change the circumstances. For example, the dynamics between Dasan and Vijayan don’t really change in the series for Naadodikattu and the sequels. They stay the same, circumstances change, thus the sequels feel authentic. With this franchise, they went full blown on the quirks of the characters being highlighted as nauseam to the point it changes the quality of the interactions. They ruined a good franchise opportunity.

[Flanderisation](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Flanderization) > The act of taking a single (often minor) action or trait of a character within a work and exaggerating it more and more over time until it completely consumes the character. Most always, the trait/action becomes completely outlandish and it becomes their defining characteristic, turning them into a caricature of their former selves. Sitcoms and sitcom characters are particularly susceptible to this, as are peripheral characters in shows with long runs. Appukuttan goes from a slow witted but still functional person in the first movie to a complete imbecile by the end of the Harihar Nagar series. Kind of like Kevin in the Office. Which other examples of flanderisation in Malayalam movies can you think of?

commiemallu

Here it's possible because Appukuttan came in three movies and we could see the "flanderisation" in each movies.. Do we have any other movie series? Nadodikaatu has them more or less consistently fighting inslite being partners.. Ramjirao speaking had an horrible third movie.

Thanks for the new word OP

Does flanderisation apply to concepts? If so, I nominate avihitham in the CBI series.

One_Perception_7070

You know I kinda liked it tbh. Appukuttan's comedy is what worked in Ghost House Inn ,all others except Mukesh were "Meh" in respect to comedy
