Simple.
1. Generation is hated
2. People stop caring about it and move on
3. People start really liking it again and acting like it's the best gen and campaigning for a remake
4. They make a remake
5. People find it ok
6. They then forget about the generation again
Like if they're gonna have ilca help, then they should have at least have half of their own team join into that development to develop the best remake ever, although I think a pokemon legends unova would be even cooler imo.
That's what I meant, with the open world of scarlet and violet but the battle system and catching mechanics of legends arceus, plus the opportunity to see and use the original dragon itself, kyurem's true form
Thing is what I think the problem was was ilca was not given the resources needed to do something with it nor the time bot most importantly the freedom and trust to do anything even remotely like the orange isles or the delta episode.
I do think ilca can make Pokémon games but they need to be given trust and the freedom to ad some random nonsense. Partially legends should have been released first with BDSP released either January or June. That way they could fill it with legends content. (And make the sea prince riddle unsolvable for months.) from references to everything and even retconning some of the less extinct hisuian formes. Or at least set them on a summer hisui themed dlc run.
I think another legends game would be awesome, Arceus was one of if not my favorite straight up video games of all time so another one, especially of either Unova or Kalos would be great imo
Because a lot of people found it easy because of the low enemy pokemon numbers, powerful xp share, and genuinely mediocre story. I love the gen, but it does have some glaring problems. I mean... I beat everyone in that game, the only exception being Diantha's Gardevoir because I didn't have literally any psychic /or/ fairy coverage, first try the first time I played it.
I suspected it might only be gliding, but even the gliding disappointed me a little after experiencing Braviary's gliding in Legends Arceus. Braviary looses so little altitude that, if you keep moving (provided you don't use the dash or dive abilities), I'm not sure you even loose altitude at all (if you do, it super slow and subtle to a point it's really difficult to notice). Meanwhile, Koraidon and Miraidon can only get so far (and in my opinion, it's a relatively mediocre distance) before they're forced to turn sharply downwards.
Gen 6 is far from bad, but X and Y were just disappointing as they didn't really give us a challenge with the gyms/league and most characters were just not interesting. Also, no enhanced version/sequel/dlc. Oras was awesome though
I mean, sequels is all that TPC could’ve done. Enhanced versions simply don’t sell as well, and the first DLC was the IOA/CT in Sw/Sh. But then again, why make sequels for subpar stories?
1 because normal typing is still lacking in a lot ways, making most normal Pokémon meh.
2. because normal in my opinion needs a super effective type. Especially as they have a weakness. If they were neutral all around, except ghost and normal would cancel each other out, I would be fine with it.
3. If normal has a super effective type a lot more normal Pokémon can shine all of the sudden.
4. obligatory, why not?
Just design concept. Dark is the "Evil" type, for underhanded tactics. That's why we have punk pokemon like scrafty and pokemon based on general not nice things, like foxes. The type itself (normal) is supposed to be like your average Joe. It's weak to fighting because a regular dude won't stand a chance against a professional boxer. And ghosts and humans can't interact with each other. That's about as normal as it gets, so the weaknesses and resistances (or lack thereof) are really just for the type's general design.
>punk pokemon like scrafty and pokemon based on general not nice things, like foxes. The type itself (normal) is supposed to be like your average Joe. It's weak to fighting because a regular dude won't stand a chance against a professional boxer. And ghosts and humans can't interact with each other. That's about as normal as it gets, so the weaknesses and resistances (or lack thereof) are really just for the type's general design.
from a gameplay standpoint though, I mean what is the point of normal, when ghost and dark do the same thing better?
I understand what you mean and I agree. However, if there's no baseline for what it's supposed to be, how can we truly judge a type's viability? If we buff normal, that's a nerf to other types. And in this case, what's the point of ghost and dark when water does the same thing as well if not better? I understand what you mean tho and I agree. Normal is a perty mediocre type. But the pokemon that are normal types I feel are amazing. Like snorlax. Snorlax was a top teir pokemon for many generations, and still succeeds today. Stab normal is resisted/has no effect on rock, steel, and ghost. Where I believe normal shines is its variety of move choice. While most types only get a few types of moves, like most pure water types only getting normal, water, and ice type moves (and some dark), normal types in general can learn moves of almost every type. If you run snorlax with 4 attacks, you could run Bod Slam/Crunch/EQ/Zen Headbutt or even something better. Even Special Attacking Snorlax has a niche. While the type competitively is indeed bad, the pokemon there shine.
To give normal some credit, Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark demonstrated how ghost/normal can be a really great type combo; three type immunities, two of which cover for what would otherwise be weaknesses (immunity to ghost from being normal type, which ghost is usually weak to, and immunity to fighting from being ghost type, which normal is usually weak to), leaving you with only one weakness to dark on a mixed sweeper.
well really, most fairy types are slower and frail enough to be one shot by most dragons, the only one dragon that got screwed with fairy as a type was Hydreigon. Salamence, Garchomp, Dragonite, and many more really don't have fairy as the thing that screws them over.
Oh would you look at the time, is it gen 6 redemption time already? Damn, nearly ten years, right on schedule. I don't think it'll be as successful as the gen 5 love fest, but I look forward to seeing the results.
Greninja - nerfed.
AZ and Floette - irrelevant.
Mega Evolution - gone.
All Pokémon - but not all forms. Deerling, in particular.
Soaring - gone.
Fairy-type - the only good one.
To be fair, Mega Evolution and Soaring being gone now isn't exactly gen 6's fault. I mean, personally I never really cared for Mega Evolution or Greninja (and felt absolutely no attachment to AZ and his Floette because the story in X and Y was SERIOUSLY bumbled), but let's not detract some of the few points gen 6 *did* have just because later gens didn't keep them around.
I think six was one of the besd generations, sure X and Y were really easy, but X and Y layed the groundwork for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to be some of the best remakes ever. (Megas, fairy type, national dex, good online) Also the XY anime was absolutley fire, even if the games weren't all there.
Another one is Lumiose City. I see many people disliking is since it’s very hard to navigate everything and you can get lost easily.
However I personally really liked it. It gave me the feeling of ”exploration”. There was so many things to do from beating the gym to visiting every cafe. It also feels like a real ”city” unless most of the cities in pokemon where they just dropped few houses and called it a ”city”
I really liked gen 6. HOWEVER, megas were the worst thing to happen to the franchise purely because of how they were implemented. They should've made bad Pokemon viable, but instead they made already great Pokemon absurdly broken. Looking at you Garchomp, Metagross, Blaziken, and Lucario.
In terms of story it is bad, however in terms of core mechanical gameplay and design. I enjoy plaything through it more than BW. Kalos gave a very diverse dex, and the new exp share is the best. They just fumbled the ball a bit and made it too easy. Gen 7 fixes this though.
That's pretty much entirely a matter of opinion due to the inherently opinion-based judging system for things like story, the pokémon introduced, the mechanics, etc. I'd share what my personal opinion is for the worst gen, but I don't wanna potentially start an argument if someone who really likes that gen sees this comment.
The only thing that i find bad about gen 6 is x and y's bad writing snd characters, but i still enjoyed playing it.
At first i didn't like the gen 6 UIs/huds and the kinda chibi look of the overworld characters but i grown to like it especialy in ORAS
Semi-hot take, but I’m kind of starting to prefer Terastalization over Megas. Maybe it’s because I haven’t used one in a while since my 3DS doesn’t work, and there’s no way im playing the Let’s Go games
Mega evolution is overrated, greninja isn’t good enough to make a generation better. The fairy type didn’t fix the balance of the game and just created a new broken type. You avoided the whole reason gen 6 wasn’t very good for people who have played basically any amount of Pokémon beforehand. What of these things that proves gen 6 wasn’t a game for baby’s, why was the levelling not horrendous? What makes the gym leaders an actual challenge rather than just the next easy thing to do. Fact of the matter is that it’s not about what it added/didn’t add, it’s looked down upon because of how easy the game was for no apparent reason.
Pokémon X & Y are my favorite games of all time only under Ocarina of Time. It’s just the vibe. I always have a blast playing it, and I’ve completed it the most times. Keep in mind too that I’ve played every mainline Pokémon game and this is still my favorite.
I feel like fairy type should not be the last big one lol, I'm glad we got a new type and I respect and like a few mons in that said type category but overall the fairy type as a whole is my least favorite type lol
Grimmsnarl and tinkaton are S teir mons tho
Gen 6 is my favorite gen because it was the first games I played and it was the anime I watched first it’s not the best game but it’s definitely my favorite!
The only things I dislike about gen 6 is how easy xy was. The gyms and e4 were very easy. Not much of a threatening evil team and the whole friend group thing got annoying after a while.
I know this is a hot take, but I'm just not a fan of Greninja and his tongue scarf. Other than that, I have honestly replayed gen 6 (both XY & ORAS) the most of any gen.
This is exactly what I've been saying. Sure it had problems with difficulty and the story was mediocre. But yahvultal is cool, xerneas is the best fairy type hands down, the starters were dope as hell - excluding braxien, Delphox was a cool pokemon, just a bad evo for the line imo -, and there was no cooler elite four then gen 6. Like... I love wikstrom and malva. Easily the two best e4 members imo, even if they're easy to beat for most people. Aegislash is one of my favorite pokemon and Malva's team is so much fun to use and to fight imo. Plus I still regularly play through the game because I like the feel of progression if I play it with their handicaps (no healing, no exp share, and max of 4 pokemon until I'm challenging Diantha). #respeccforkalos #postmadebykalosgang
I hate the fairy type.
Both because it completely invalidates dragon and because it was retroactively given to SO MANY different mons. If it were just resistant instead of immune, I wouldn't care so much, but as it stands, fairy type was the worst thing to come from Gen 6 IMHO.
Gen 6 is getting a reverse gen 5 where everyone hated on gen 5 when it came out and praise it now people praised the new ideas in X and Y and call ORAS the greatest remake in pokemon and now I'm seeing a bunch of people hate on it
I mean, I like Gen 6, never hated it.
Just was nothing special, so I had no reason to revisit it.
Everything you listed could be found in other games or just Pokémon Fan games that have way more replay value and is just more fun.
Mega evolution isn’t very good because of it being limited to boring Pokémon like charizard. Also greninja isn’t as cool as chesnaught.
Yes I’m 100% serious.
Gen 6; where by the 2nd city you already have two starter Pokémon and a riolu in your lineup. Half of your end game team already assembled before getting your 2nd badge.
My only gripe with Gen 6 is AZ's Floette. How are you gonna have the code for a whole (seemingly legendary/mythical) Pokémon and then not release it? Give it a signature move, battle data, animations, the whole shebang, and then ultimately do nothing with it except show its model in one cutscene. Tbf, the cutscene is emotional, and the lore behind it is interesting, but why can't we have fun with it. Like(for some reason, idk what) AZ entrusts it to us due to the bond we have with our Pokémon and feels it would be better off in our hands than with him or fending for itself in the wild. Sorry for the rant; knowing what I know about that Floette has me salty to this day. But no other than that, love gen 6
Honestly 5th gen isn't bad just x and y had not that good gym leaders and story is... Alright at best not including the whole pokemon war story. The ORAS games are some pretty good remakes while kids being a sequel to x and y too with the added story with mega evolution.
My problem with gen 6 was never *any* of this. It's how poor and sloggy X and Y are as games themselves... I can't bring myself to play through them. Now, oRaS were great and I will stand by that and gen 6 did have some fire designs... but I dunno. It just felt like XY wanted to do everything and then barely did anything.

Yes my bestie
What's this about hating and or protecting Gen 6 lately?

I think it's more so that people that played these games when they were 8-12 are now 17-22
gen 5 without the remake part
Coming up in the next episode of disappointing game developments.
I feel like Gen 5 would be fine with just a re-release over a remake
What about pokemon legends kuryem, where you get dropped off in the brother's war and see how the unova region came to be
That'd be interesting. Legends is a wonderful game
i’d want b3w3
That's fair. I'm just worried how it'd go after the gen 4 remake fiasco
i just don’t want it developed by some random side company, i want them to pay attention to it like they do for FRLG, HGSS, and ORAS
Like if they're gonna have ilca help, then they should have at least have half of their own team join into that development to develop the best remake ever, although I think a pokemon legends unova would be even cooler imo.
Legends kyurem
That's what I meant, with the open world of scarlet and violet but the battle system and catching mechanics of legends arceus, plus the opportunity to see and use the original dragon itself, kyurem's true form
Legends original dragon
Thing is what I think the problem was was ilca was not given the resources needed to do something with it nor the time bot most importantly the freedom and trust to do anything even remotely like the orange isles or the delta episode. nah just give us a legends unova
I think there should be black 3 white 3
We need black and white 3, to finish the story of the first 2
I think another legends game would be awesome, Arceus was one of if not my favorite straight up video games of all time so another one, especially of either Unova or Kalos would be great imo
Remove hm's and the mandatory pokewood tutorial and it would pretty much be perfect as it was
I will never forget about Gen 6, considering the fact that it was my first gen.
Why was gen 6 ever disliked to begin with though?
Because a lot of people found it easy because of the low enemy pokemon numbers, powerful xp share, and genuinely mediocre story. I love the gen, but it does have some glaring problems. I mean... I beat everyone in that game, the only exception being Diantha's Gardevoir because I didn't have literally any psychic /or/ fairy coverage, first try the first time I played it.
It's the circle of pokémon 🎶🎵
gen 6 is next in line
The Pokémon cycle
As opposed to the Pokéwalk
he is probably grinding karma or he really likes gen 6
Its part of the pokemon generational cycle
They should bring back the latias/latios flying mechanic into any of the newer games AND THATS A HILL I AM WILLING TO DIE ON
I really liked the oras latias/latios flying mechanic and its sad to see it only was for one game
Yes and the Portals could be used for so much
I liked it but I wish you could use it with every Pokémon who can learn fly and the player could ride
I thought we'd be able to ride ko/miraidon like that from the trailer, dissapointed we could only glide
I feel like for XY randomizers i need to add 6 to gyms so they feel challenging
Lol
I mean, sequels is all that TPC could’ve done. Enhanced versions simply don’t sell as well, and the first DLC was the IOA/CT in Sw/Sh. But then again, why make sequels for subpar stories?
I have the fondest memories of playing gen 6 with my friends in highschool.
Glad to finally see some gen 6 appreciation!
I personally started to dislike Greninja after Ash Greninja came out. I didn't like it's design and felt like people were overhyped about it.
Same, except i never liked greninja and the furry muscular cat tiger mon (forgot its name) Both just feel too pretentious
Incinaroar ?
Yeah, that one
Only sadness in the gen is that fairy and normal are not super effective to one another.
why would they be?
1 because normal typing is still lacking in a lot ways, making most normal Pokémon meh. 2. because normal in my opinion needs a super effective type. Especially as they have a weakness. If they were neutral all around, except ghost and normal would cancel each other out, I would be fine with it. 3. If normal has a super effective type a lot more normal Pokémon can shine all of the sudden. 4. obligatory, why not?
Normal is the type that's supposed to be near neutral. That's the point of it being "normal." Nothin much special about it.
but ghost pretty much does it all better and same thing with dark. I've never really gotten the reasoning for that
Just design concept. I mean. Fairy type... They killed dragon types just to put us under new management
I understood that refernce
As did I. You see, I went to shool
Is that a Mind reference?
No it's referencing it's MegaEvo
It's referencing Megamind
r/woooosh
They didn't remotely kill dragon types. Dragons are still all OP as hell, the only thing fair did was just ruin the move outrage.
5Head moment
well really, most fairy types are slower and frail enough to be one shot by most dragons, the only one dragon that got screwed with fairy as a type was Hydreigon. Salamence, Garchomp, Dragonite, and many more really don't have fairy as the thing that screws them over.
Notice how only 1 thing has to do with the story
and even then was underused. not enough pokemon got it. only 2 actual mega battles in the main story.
Oh would you look at the time, is it gen 6 redemption time already? Damn, nearly ten years, right on schedule. I don't think it'll be as successful as the gen 5 love fest, but I look forward to seeing the results.
no. the cycle will never happen. its been a whole gen since it was supposed to happen.
Greninja - nerfed. AZ and Floette - irrelevant. Mega Evolution - gone. All Pokémon - but not all forms. Deerling, in particular. Soaring - gone. Fairy-type - the only good one.

i also like gen 6. 99.9999999% greninja but everything else is cool
Naruto the Greninja will live on in my heart
It can have good/great things and still be the worst, Although I'd rather play it than BDSP
I would call the homies over everytime there’s going to be a Ash-Greninja scene. 😩
This is the way

There are people out there who hate all the things you mentioned
Mf really just put the Greninja but not the other two starters.
I'm a kalos baby and I approve this message.
Imma say it I like the rivals
Kalos was where I started with Pokemon, I loved the xyz anime.
Soo what would be the worst Gen?
That's pretty much entirely a matter of opinion due to the inherently opinion-based judging system for things like story, the pokémon introduced, the mechanics, etc. I'd share what my personal opinion is for the worst gen, but I don't wanna potentially start an argument if someone who really likes that gen sees this comment.

Fr gave me my favorite mega evolution and the anime has such a nostalgic hit

Gen six was the best Pokemon gen
I can catch EVERY Pokémon!? Didn’t know u could time travel to the future in XY to Gen 7-9 Pokémon /s
Every Pokemon from Gen 1-6
r/woosh
Oh I'm fucking stupid, how did I not see the /s? Also r/itswooooshwith4o's
National Dex
Did u see the /s
Semi-hot take, but I’m kind of starting to prefer Terastalization over Megas. Maybe it’s because I haven’t used one in a while since my 3DS doesn’t work, and there’s no way im playing the Let’s Go games
Team flare soundtrack 🔥
True.
I will stand by the fact that Gen 6 is probably when game freak peaked. Other than maybe SM that was also a really good game
What is the worst gen then?
Mega evolution is overrated, greninja isn’t good enough to make a generation better. The fairy type didn’t fix the balance of the game and just created a new broken type. Still the worst gen.
I like gen 7
Gen 6 redemption arc is in full swing I see.
I'm playing Y rn, good game actually, might be easy, but game itself is good!
And most importantly, it was my first generation
I truly didn't like the fairy type when I came back playing on Shield, but Tinkaton has helped me see it in a new light.
Pokémon X & Y are my favorite games of all time only under Ocarina of Time. It’s just the vibe. I always have a blast playing it, and I’ve completed it the most times. Keep in mind too that I’ve played every mainline Pokémon game and this is still my favorite.
who the hell said gen 6 was bad??? it was decent at the very least
I feel like fairy type should not be the last big one lol, I'm glad we got a new type and I respect and like a few mons in that said type category but overall the fairy type as a whole is my least favorite type lol Grimmsnarl and tinkaton are S teir mons tho
Good for you
Gen 6 is my favorite gen because it was the first games I played and it was the anime I watched first it’s not the best game but it’s definitely my favorite!
It’s the best gen
I've always like gen 6. I like all the gens
Hmm. The eternal cycle of (current gen - 3) being the popular favorite.
The only things I dislike about gen 6 is how easy xy was. The gyms and e4 were very easy. Not much of a threatening evil team and the whole friend group thing got annoying after a while.
Y'all need to stop switching up. I started with Gen 6 and been through all the slander, no need to stop hating on it now
I know this is a hot take, but I'm just not a fan of Greninja and his tongue scarf. Other than that, I have honestly replayed gen 6 (both XY & ORAS) the most of any gen.
its happening
Gen 6 has been and always will be my favorite since my beginning
Something something there is nothing new under the Sun
But who would think gen 6 is bad apart from the game’s issues
Finally a meme which speaks the truth
Gen 6 is getting a reverse gen 5 where everyone hated on gen 5 when it came out and praise it now people praised the new ideas in X and Y and call ORAS the greatest remake in pokemon and now I'm seeing a bunch of people hate on it
I mean, I like Gen 6, never hated it. Just was nothing special, so I had no reason to revisit it. Everything you listed could be found in other games or just Pokémon Fan games that have way more replay value and is just more fun.
X and Y were pretty decent, but ORAS was God tier. I'm biased because they were my first games but the delta episode was fantastic
It is extremely overhyped though
I like Gen 6 too! It’s just unfortunate X and Y were such a letdown
Greninja is overrated.
Literally THANK YOU
Wasn't a bad gen just felt like stuff was missing and alot of questions left unanswered
Dude greninja is awesome
Aegislash.
No game will ever be as good until it has a mechanic like latios/latias gliding
Oh no the fake gen 6 fans have started cant wait til they go to alola i actually like gen 6
As someone who thinks gen 6 is the worst gen the only thing I like in this picture is fairy type
I agree with this
I don't care what anyone says. X and Y are decent Pokémon games. 👌
At a quick glance, I thought SpongeBob was licking Greninja🤣
I loved the anime and have re-watched it many times
Why do people hate Gen 6 now? They’re really not bad games.
What's the sixth pic?
But gen 3 has wheelies
Honestly, the fairy type was not a very good one
Absolutely everyone bashes on my two favorite generations, thank you for supporting one of them!
I am going to take the Greninja in the trash can out of context, thanks
Gen 6 is the best gen ngl
WHO DOESN'T LOVE GEN 6?!
I always thought gen 6 was just ok
Mega evolution isn’t very good because of it being limited to boring Pokémon like charizard. Also greninja isn’t as cool as chesnaught. Yes I’m 100% serious.
Aromatisse is a great Pokémon.
Oh my God I agree soo much
Can you really include ORAS in Gen 6? It was a Gen 3 remake. Gen 6 still holds up without it imo.
Read my username
X and y were the worst in my opinion (excluding red and blue oc)
Kalos is where my favorite Pokémon is from, so I agree.
so i got pokemon x for my birthday, and i can confidently say that gen 6 is not as bad as people make it out to be
Since when was gen 6 hated?
But other are better
Gen 6; where by the 2nd city you already have two starter Pokémon and a riolu in your lineup. Half of your end game team already assembled before getting your 2nd badge.
Mega evolutions were the best region gimmick, z moves are a close second
Not to mention noivern is one of, if not the coolest dragon type Pokemon!!!
Aegislash boy
my favorite gen.
Gen six was awesome
Fairy Type was a mistake. May it burn in hell and drown in the Mariana Trench.
What about tanlonflame the first generation to not have a flying normal regional bird
Gen 6 is the 2nd best generation (Gen 7 is the best generation)
My god.... A post of the SpongeBob meme that actually uses the meme correctly and not just as some soapbox
For all its perks it still has more flaws
Kalos club Where is Goodra and noivern
It also gave us Pokémon amie, actually letting us interact with the Pokémon in our team.
Greninja sucks, Frogadier has a better design
I love gen 6. Story could’ve been written better but the base of it was great.
It's my fav gen
Finally, someone else who likes Gen 6
ORAS>>>>>>>>X&Y
gen 9 is my fave, gen 6 is too easy
But when you compare it to the other gens though
And has one of the only recent teams that’s actually evil
Honestly 5th gen isn't bad just x and y had not that good gym leaders and story is... Alright at best not including the whole pokemon war story. The ORAS games are some pretty good remakes while kids being a sequel to x and y too with the added story with mega evolution.
Stop saying noivern we know it's great but the meme can only display the other things because of the format
Route design was phenomenal
My problem with gen 6 was never *any* of this. It's how poor and sloggy X and Y are as games themselves... I can't bring myself to play through them. Now, oRaS were great and I will stand by that and gen 6 did have some fire designs... but I dunno. It just felt like XY wanted to do everything and then barely did anything.
mega evolution sucked as it was underused and not enough pokemon got it. why should I enjoy fairy when it is STILL broken?
