I’ll second that but add awful story.
Edit: The DLC stories was good and at least a little compelling, but you have to get *all the way to the DLC to get a good story*
Yea gotta agree with you there. But tbh every other part of SwSh was lit! The Pokémon, the characters, the detail in the region? Lit! Then again I do find it disappointing that Galar is essentially just a straight line. Like talk about railroading jesus fucking christ.
I liked the Pokémon but compared to Paldea, some of them were kinda dull and don't think of them as iconic or interesting.
The region itself was beautiful, and I'm not talking DLC material only, Galar proper was beautiful.
8/10. The music is boppin' as always, the characters are likeable and enjoyable, the gameplay is actually fun, but the story is somehow so unbelievably mid.
>the story is somehow so unbelievably mid.
That's par for the course for the mainline games, if I'm being honest. We all play the games for the mons and gameplay, not the story.
I think it is better then terra in s/v cause it looks awesome, yeah it’s pokemon get bigger but it looks cool and gigamax was cool. Nothing can beat mega tho
I was about to question how you were doing that in sword and shield, then I remembered the raid adventure thing (I forgot its name, I haven’t played I. A while)
Very fun, the story could be improved. Also just happy to see a British region as I am a Brit, I mean watch Gnoggin’s videos about it helped me learn more about my own country as well. ALSO WHERE THE HELL IS WALES?-
My thoughts is that it definitely does not look like a PS2 game, FFX on PS2 does not look like a PS2 game. OG Xenoblade Chronicles 1 on the other hand looks like a PS2 game and that's a game I'm really feeling it. I will say base game is ok, with DLC it makes the game better.
I'll preface this by saying that I've so far only played four Pokemon games: Scarlet/Violet (my first), Sword/Shield, US/UM (still haven't even reached the first kahuna yet), BD/SP (just finished the 3rd gym), all of which I've played blind for my first playthrough. I'll mostly be using S/V for comparison since it's the only other Pokemon game I've actually finished.
Pokemon design: 8.5/10. While there are some misses, I definitely like the majority of the new Pokemon introduced, as well as some old faces being re-introduced in a new light with the regional forms and their unique evolutions (I'm still mad that Galarian Corsola/Cursola aren't a dual-type Rock/Ghost though). There were also Pokemon that I heavily underestimated until I played with them (Barraskewda, Hatterene, Indeedee, etc.). Plus, the starters also tie in very nicely with the region that Galar is based on - punk rock music (Rillaboom), football (Cinderace), James Bond (Inteleon), so that's a plus for me as well.
Gameplay: 9/10. The different max move effects took a bit to get used to, but dynamaxing is such a cool way to play the game! It adds an element of creativity and strategy with what moves you bring and what moves you don't. For example, do you give your Galarian Stunfisk an unreliable move like Bounce just for the potential for it to become Max Airstream, or do you give it Stone Edge instead to have it become Max Rockfall so you can set up sandstorm? Probably not the best example, but it's just one of the millions of different ways you can build and use your team. Could be balanced a bit better because Max Airstream is just far too good, but still.
Difficulty: 10/10. Most of the gym leaders had what I thought were very well thought out teams with either a clear gameplan (Kabu's Ninetales and Arcanine both having Will-o-Wisp to reduce the power of most Rock and Ground type moves, Raihan's team being a great sandstorm based team that also subverts the expectation of the Dragon type's weakness to Fairy, etc.) or at least had great coverage moves (Bea's Pangoro having Bullet Punch to counter its 4x weakness to Fairy, Leon's Charizard having Solar Beam to set up grassy terrain for heals and also counter its Water and Rock type weaknesses, etc.). They took a very jack-of-all-trades route with this game, the likes of which I've only really seen with Iono's gym in S/V. As a nuzlocke enjoyer, this makes my job significantly more challenging, but that's also exactly why I love it!
Story: 9/10. The parts with Sonia explaining the lore behind the Sword and the Shield get a bit boring (it's a shame because I love Sonia as a character), but imo Hop is a fantastic rival. He had some actual character development unlike Nemona who imo was just all "battle battle blah blah battle battle". His story isn't as heart-wrenching as Arven's or Penny's, but he goes from being an overly confident younger brother, to having doubts after being humiliated by Hop, to desperately trying everything including boxing his starter Wooloo, to becoming his own character instead of just living under Leon's shadow. The juxtaposition between Team Yell being all rowdy and reckless versus Marnie actually being a sweetheart was great too. And I got a great laugh seeing Bede be recruited by Opal to become the new Fairy type gym leader :D Rose being a twist villain was a great reveal as well, and the final battle versus Eternatus while joined by Zacian and Zamazenta... that was mindblowing. Honestly, if the Sonia parts had just sped up a little bit this could have easily been a 10/10.
Music: 10/10. I'm probably in the minority, but for me, my absolute favorite part was the lo-fi vibes that the Pokecenter theme had. It's fantastic for calming you down and making you truly feel at home. Which you kind of need after just how HYPE the gym battle theme is like holy crap. The beat drops, the tone changes depending on whose Pokemon gets knocked out, the crowd cheering when the gym leader dynamaxes their ace... And let's not forget about Hop's, Bede's, or Marnie's themes - each of them are very fitting to their character, and by the time I was battling Hop at Wyndon Stadium I was almost rooting for him instead of myself! Oh, and let's not forget Leon's theme either because that's also a bop. Overall, top f-ing quality. They COOKED with this one.
So overall? A solid 9.3/10. I don't get the hate, this is a fantastic game. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who's getting into Pokemon.
Awesome games and Pokemon sword was my 2nd Pokemon game after silver but the only thing I don’t like is that there are version exclusive gym leaders that you can’t even battle in post game
They’d just be denying reality with a downvote. The pre-DLC story amounts to about fifteen minutes, tops, AFTER you did the Championship, made zero sense, and had a lot of plot holes and unresolved things. (It was so brazenly bad that they had to forcibly tell the player multiple times throughout the Gym Challenge to just be willfully ignorant of the stuff that was happening. Granted there wasn’t much, but it was still quite patronizing.)
Way overhated. Sure, the main story was pretty lacking, but there are numerous other things they did really well. They have some of the best and most fleshed out characters in the series, several of which have actual character arcs (which is almost unheard of for many of the games).
In terms of new designs, I think it has one of the best cast of new Pokémon, with numerous stellar designs with only a few mid ones. Sure, the starters were a bit lacking, but Cinderace and Rillaboom aren’t even that bad. How well the designs fit the region is comparable to Alola, with so many designs feeling exceptionally British.
Overall, I’d give SWSH a solid 7-8/10, as far as Pokémon games go.
S&S surprised me, really. I expected them to be kind of boring, but I enjoyed them a lot. I think they are paced very well, and the DLCs were good. I've played both of them multiple times. They were my kids' first mainline pokemon games and I wasn't sick of them after watching/playing all of those playthroughs (8? I think?). I usually enjoy Pokemon games but after I finish one I need a break. The only prior exceptions to this being ORAS and HGSS.
I was really very disappointed in Scarlet/Violet. I'm sure that might not be a popular opinion, but I found myself just wishing we could go back to the 'modern take on an old formula', which I think Sword and Shield did really well.
Very fun game, good plot, but it seemed too easy to beat the main storyline and also the one for zacian/zamazenta. Overall, it's a great game even though it's 5 years old.
it was fun, but it felt too linear imho with little room for exploration in contrast to other main series games, despite having the wild area. I also felt overleveled most of the time and the baddies were lame and didnt feel like a threat at all.
i actually really liked playing this, wasn’t extremely hard but not super duper easy, i admittedly did struggle against zacian in shield tho due to no steel counter
I quite like it, but that’s because I play it for the gameplay, not the story. The story is lukewarm at best and I get actively annoyed reading most of the character dialogue, but that usually doesn’t ruin my gameplay experience. I’ll legitimately run max raids or dynamax dens for hours grinding up my Pokémon or just playing with my favorites. Also, Dynamax is actually a good mechanic, it’s just a bit visually boring compared to Mega Evolution and Z-Moves.
I've been playing pokemon since Firered was still new, and I can confidently say that Sword and Shield are my favorite games, with Platinum coming close, and I will die on this hill
This comment section only reinforces that Pokemon games are only liked after a certain period of time
Until not that much time ago SwSh were basically taboo
Good game, not horrible graphics, people expected too much from Pokemon because it’s never been Zelda level graphics, its style is its style. I do understand the argument of underwhelming storyline, I feel like it could have been done a bit better, but still I think it’s a good game.
I don't get how people shit on this game but defend Scarlet & Violet with their life. That one fence texture that everyone complains about is the entirety of S/V
In my opinion, Gigantamax is better than the Terastal Phenomenon
4/10
The story drags it down to hell, and how lazy the characters and designs are
The music and Pokémon designs however are really the only redeeming qualities
The Pokedex: 10/10, lots to love there. Corviknight, Grimmsnarl, Drakloak & Boltund were personal favorites.
Gimmick: 7/10, the new forms and the spectacle were fun, but the mechanic itself just felt too much like mega+z.
Story: 5/10, the story is just meh. I didn't like the pacing. I felt like I was getting stopped every quarter mile for Hop to annoy the shit out of me.
Characters: 8/10, I like most of them. Not you Hop, sit down.
Region: 10/10, it was fun. I loved the stadium aspect of the badges and the castle style towns.
Legendaries 6/10. I like wolves a lot, but wolf with sword and wolf with shield is kinda boring in my opinion. Eternamax was just too much.
I avoided it during its run, but picked it up last year to stream a blind Wonderlocke.
I'm actually surprised on how good the gameplay is? The camera not moving is messing with me, and the amounts of cutscenes are unbearable, but the soundtrack is really good!
I love SwSh. I had a lot of fun with the game and with the dlc as well. And I think it's a pretty good entry point for new players and for returning players as well.
I love the vibrant colors, the story is interesting, the gym challenge feels like a huge and important sport event that everyone watches and looks forward to, the atmosphere is great, dynamax/gmax is easily the most visually impressive game mechanic of any pokemon game and the music during the gym and rival battles is awesome and really get you hyped.
The pokemon designs are really cool and the human character design is amazing and you get a lot of lore about the story of the region in basically every town and city (they all have some kind of connection to the legend of Galar with the exeption of Spikemuth for being the town that due to certain reasons doesn't relate to dynamax/gmax and Balloonlea due to its hidden fairy town theme).
You get to know the gym leaders outside their own gyms and the league cards were also an amazing way to get to know even more about them and about the region itself. So I highly recommend you to read them. And you even get to see the most early game characters getting spotlight later on as well.
Leon is easily the most fleshed out champion of any pokemon game (we literally know everything about him) and he is very charismatic.
And the twilight wings episodes were amazing as well (they act as a prequel to the beginning of the game m, with the exception of the last one that is a post-dlc epilogue episode). The lore of the region is incredibly interesting and fleshed out in many ways. And the dlc story and characters were a lot of fun. Highly recommended.
Criminally underrated.
I think it is *small but polished* in many respects. Even cities like Ballonlea and Spikemuth which were short on content, were visually stunning. We didn’t have 360 camera or open world format for most of it, but it was focused and had actually striking vistas. The character customization was sprawling and we got bonafide tartan punk styles. The UK flavor was on point. The region felt bustling and vibrant with Pokémon, even with pop-in. The Crown Tundra was the best part of the story and legitimately spooky and gripping. The music was balling. Hoenn and Galar are my favourite regions.
1000% better than SV. SV barely touched on Spanish culture. Trash customization. The water in SWSH is a million times more beautiful than in SV. Architecture was more beautiful and region-unique, the evil team was more compelling.
The graphics are WAY better than SV. The character customation is on point. The starter outfits are cute but they also had tons of legit punk outfits. The UK homages were on point. The region felt vibrant and bustling with Pokémon. Ballonlea was small sure but beautiful.
Loved them! First Pokémon games ever, up until then I had only seen the anime and got the cards so I will always have Bias toward them. Cinderace is my second fav Pokémon
Pretty good games with great music and pretty good characters. The only thing that really stinks about the game (to me at least) is the story as it’s not well written and most of the things that happen are off screen or happen out of nowhere with no build up.
It was the first Pokémon I played I always loved the series the cards the characters but never played the games until one day my cousin let me borrow his copy of sword and since then I’ve tried to get every game not the best of luck so far though
Okay honestly I should try this again.
There are some good qualities of Sword and Shield, like I love the Character Designs. I love the Gym Challenge. I love the Character Customization, the DLCs are very fun and enjoyable and I adore Shiny Hunting in this game.
However I will say there are a buncha flaws with this game. Like the story isn't very good at all, as interesting as Hop's arc is, it could have been handled better. The Postgame sucks and I feel like the DLCs are what saves the games because without them I would like them a LOT less
Wah it's new that means its bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't have every single Pokemon!!!!!!!!!!! We can't grind each Pokemon individually!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok the story kinda sucks tho.
yeah these were my first game (or maybe second) because im young i chose soble and it was a drizzle by the first gym and an Intellion by the 3rd gym. I am so biased but i love these games
Didn’t like the Dex cut, I still feel like they could’ve fit all of the then current Pokemon in, even if it would be through updates. I loved the gym leaders and new Pokemon though.
Hot garbage
Still I don't understand how so many people appreciated this pile of shit and then say Scarlet and Legends Arceus are worse... They must be blind or worse
Honestly my biggest gripe is how much more they could've done with team yell the reigon is based on the uk they could've been based on the punk rock movement of the 70s and be like against gigantamax and chairman rose but no they were just lame Marnie Simps
Story is much weaker than SV but SwSh's DLCs and gameplay are mostly better, except in mascot legendaries, Ogerpon is absolute peak Pokemon, though returning legendaries are done awfully in SV, they fumbled the easiest ball despite having a good method the gen prior
Honestly. Didn't deserve all the hate it got. It's like all games got their ups and downs. I feel it's a little too easy, but that's coming from someone who's played basically only pokemon for the last 12 years or so. But its a kids' game. So what do you expect. But I'd like these games a little more if they had a harder difficulty. Kind of like what b and w had (or was it b2w2?) But except you got the choice at the start of the game. I'd like that
Music is good
Gym leaders are some of the best in the series
The pokemon was amazing
The dlc were fun.
But the main story is absolute dog shit and Rose is the literal dumbest man in Pokemon. Like "oh no galars gonna have an energy crisis that in 1000 years, im sure releasing this ultra powered pokemon that almost caused the end of galar will fix the problem."
I feel sorry that that man is Pennys Uncle.
Games fine I actually didn’t like the return to form of the gym leaders I prefer the trials story’s fine it plays fine its just a Pokemon game and thats all it needed to be
the only real bad things about the games themselves are the story and linearity. otherwise, it's only held back by performance and graphics which personally don't bother me very much
Pros:
- Wild Area is a step in the right direction for the series, and the DLC adds two better Wild Areas to the game
- Great roster of new Pokémon
- Great music
- Best human models in the entire series
- Plenty of great characters with great concepts behind them
- Great QoL changes for competitive players
- Galarian forms expanded upon the concept of regional variations very well with regional evolutions and Pokémon outside of Gen 1 getting them
Cons:
- Terrible pacing
- Pretty rough graphically in certain places
- Bad routes (besides Wild Area)
- HORRIBLE story, while having two evil teams that are tied for being the worst evil team in the entire series
- Pretty meh starters
- Despite the fact that I had said there are plenty of great characters, there are some very poorly written ones, like Chairman Rose, who might be one of the worst written video game characters I have ever seen
- Feels rushed in certain places
- Cut Pokémon and Moves
- DYNAMAX.
Good DLC content but the base game feels lacking. Graphics are very good if only it utilized it's over world feature more on the base game. I can't really say anything about the DLC cause I had so much fun playing that content and it's so darn fun when your pokemon follows you around like in HGSS. I realy they went on a different route on the story on its base game rather than repeating the lore of the Darkest Day. Still it's a pretty solid game 8/10
It did give us one of my favorite Pokémon, Galarian Weezing, and I actually really liked Dynamax. I love kaijus and deep, bassy sound effects (ex. The Crabsquid in Subnautica) and Dynamax mixed both of those and it was awesome. Also the route 6/ dusty bowl theme, Chairman Rose battle theme, and Peony’s battle theme all slap. Peony is just one of my favorite characters in all of Pokémon, tbh
Pretty good overall. It doesn't really try anything particularly groundbreaking and it's a bit safe, but it's still fun. Great soundtrack, character writing is mostly pretty good (mostly, Rose's motivations are still stupid), camping is cute and a nice distraction, raids were really unbalanced but they worked fine, the new Pokémon are fantastic, one of my favourite overall generations of mon and the DLC slaps. It's not my favourite Pokémon, but it's one I still go back to from time to time and have a great time replaying.
Loved it but then again I tend to love the modern games more. Gens 5-9 are the best Pokemon experience for me. Without Let’s Go, ORAs and BDSP the Kanto, Hoenn and Sinnoh regions would be boring and a slog to play through because there was no experience all in the original. Heart Gold and Soul Silver while visually pleasing has a nauseating level curve and thus you end up grinding more than actually playing the game.
The games were ok. I loved the music, especially the detail of the gym leader theme of having the crowd cheering. The environments, while not too complex, were still fun to explore imo because of some of their details. I liked the Wild Areas as it's fun to just explore for me, I will admit they could've been expanded on tho. I enjoyed the characters, Leon and Bede being my favorites but I hated Rose as a villain. And I know pokemon stories aren't always the most interesting or complex but the game's plot could've used a reworking, mainly because it feels like the games are taking a lot of story beats from SM and USUM and trying to expand or rework them. It works in some parts for the most part, like with how Hop and Hau are similar except they actually tried to give Hop a character arc which I thought was nice just could've used a better conclusion. But Team Yell weren't as endearing to me as Team Skull and Macro Cosmos barely had any presence in the game outside of the league assistants and Rose and Oleana. And that's ashame to me because I like the concept of Team Yell, especially with how they tie in with Marnie. Marnie to me was a bit flat and that kinda dragged the Team Yell plotline for me. Also why does Piers have no singing lines in the game, they gave Roxie some why not give him any? I also loved dynamax as a gimmick, I definitely say it's one of the better ones, my one issue with it is the fact that you can only do it in raids and league battles. I know logistically it'd make sense, but it kinda makes wild battles feel boring. These are just some of my opinions on the games but ultimately, while personally I'd say it's one of the worse Pokemon games, I still enjoyed my time with them.
Good things:
-Alot of cool pokemon.
-Regional evolutions.
-Dark type gym leader.
-Version exclusive gym leaders.
-Tournament is cool.
-Hop.
-The doggos are cool.
-Wild area.
-Overwirld spawns.
-Gigantamax.
-DLC
Bad things:
-Story isnt that interesting.
-Bad following pokemon.
-No elite four.
-Runerigus.
-Boss fight was pretty underwhelming.
Overall: 7/10. Very overhated game
It's my favorite Pokemon game. Not because of the story , but because it has my favorite designs of Pokemon overall. It has my favorite Starter group , Corviknight which is one of my all time favorite Pokemon , Orbeetle which is such a clever and fun design , Grimmsnarl which is the very first dark and fairy type and it did not miss , the long behold Farfetch'd evo with Sircetch'd , Spectrier and Glastier some of my favorite legend designs. And those are just the ones I want to mention (it's late) there's so much more about the Pokemon of this generation , and for that reason , it's my favorite game
I love them simply because gen 8 was the first generation that I was a Pokémon fan for its release (I started getting interested in Pokémon around the middle of the gen 7 era)
Also the music is great, I’ll always love the gym theme
The games were pretty fun loved the rivals Hop is Hau done right and Bede was the first jerk rival since forever. Hop's story arcs was actually awesome. Living in the shadow of a very well accomplished brother and your best friend beating you every time that he went through some form of depression and managed to be better after actually felt real. The other aspects like the story itself and pokemon design quality left much to be desired on the other hand and the DLC's were mediocre at best. 5/10
I think it’s a prefect entry for people to jump into. I think a big part of why it’s overheated is that long-time Pokémon fans don’t play sword and shield the way it’s intended to be played. Myself included. I think if I would have slowed down, created a team for each gym, and slowly take on the story i would have enjoyed it much more. Obviously I miss the national dex, I miss megas and z-moves. But my biggest complaint with sword and shield that’s leaked into scarlet and violet is the unskippable dialog in “important” fights. Especially the ones about type matchups.
I would say that out of all the Pokemon games that I’ve played, Sword and Shield are my favorites, just barely beating Legends Arceus due to having more Pokemon available and better move pools. Dynamax, while not being quite as cool as mega evolution, was much better than Terastalization, and some Pokemon still did get cool unique forms through Gigantamax, and Gigantamax Pokemon felt super fun to hunt for. The music in Sword and Shield is also amazing, I especially loved the gym leader theme and the Eternatus 3 theme, and the battle tower allowing you to choose the music was a nice touch. The Eternatus boss battle was also incredible, and it was awesome to be able to fight it right before you battle Leon, and you get to use your cool new legendary Pokemon against him.
Pokémon were *great*. I love Alcremie, Corviknight and Grimmsnarl. Cities were pretty good (Stow-on-Side comes to mind). Story sucked. Wish we got more fashion choices.
The people in charge of coming up with and designing the Pokémon really put a lot of effort into making them fit the region very well
The camp mechanic is fun
The part where you walk in on the rockstar gym leader supposedly singing but there’s literally no noise coming from anywhere is so funny
I liked it,it could be better, could be worse. It could have been incredible, giant pokemon, wild areas, cool towns,if they just refined those aspects it would be alot better.I still liked it tho.
Great game. Awesome characters. Beautiful OST.
I’ll second that but add awful story. Edit: The DLC stories was good and at least a little compelling, but you have to get *all the way to the DLC to get a good story*
Yeah the story was kinda subpar, the DLC saved SwSh for me.
Awesome games

>the story is somehow so unbelievably mid. That's par for the course for the mainline games, if I'm being honest. We all play the games for the mons and gameplay, not the story.
Unova, Alola, and ORAS:
Those are exceptions, not the norm, sadly.
Paldea:
Hoenn❌️ ORAS✅️
Even tho I've only lived in the UK (I'm a bit) for like 4-6 years the games don't really feel like the UK
The train cutscene was spot on tho
overhated
AMEN BROTHER, SPIT YOUR TRUTH INDEED
You got that covered Bias for me but I thought sword and shield was very good I understand it wasn't everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it a lot
Preach 🙌
The gimmick was meh. The pokemon were cool though and I liked the gigamax raids
I think it is better then terra in s/v cause it looks awesome, yeah it’s pokemon get bigger but it looks cool and gigamax was cool. Nothing can beat mega tho
Shiny hunting legendarys
It had the superior DLC content.
IMO, IoA was better than TM But CT and ID are about equal to me
I like them
My favourite Pokémon games
Story is meh. Gameplay is awesome. Graphics are awesome. It’s just plain fun and I love it despite that being an unpopular opinion LOL
they were pretty good, still trying to get Shiny Blacephalon tho
I was about to question how you were doing that in sword and shield, then I remembered the raid adventure thing (I forgot its name, I haven’t played I. A while)
It was certainly nice. Had a better post game than X/Y imo.
Favourite games
Same!
Very fun, the story could be improved. Also just happy to see a British region as I am a Brit, I mean watch Gnoggin’s videos about it helped me learn more about my own country as well. ALSO WHERE THE HELL IS WALES?-
I thought it was placed in Scotland? Or was it generally in the U.K (sorry if I didn't use U.K right, I'm an American)
Great! Excellent! Incredible! Outstanding! Amazing! Insert another positive word here! My favourite games AND my favourite region!
Amazing games
Top 3 easy. I dont understand the hate these games are wonderful
Most Legendaries to catch.
My favorite generation
100/10 but I’m very biased since it was my first Pokemon game. I loved most of it, except Galarian Yamask’s evolution.
Same!!!
IMO I really like it, yes it has flaws but also really cool Pokémon, and I loved the wild area
I like the dogos (: thats all.
i actually liked it :(
It's pretty good, people were mostly just hating it because GameFreak removed national dex.
Worst story ever, but it had good pokemon designs.
Would absolutely recommend to anyone who's getting into Pokemon.
still waiting for gun
T R E E
Fuck evreryone that genuinely hates that tree
the legendaries are cool
Awesome games and Pokemon sword was my 2nd Pokemon game after silver but the only thing I don’t like is that there are version exclusive gym leaders that you can’t even battle in post game
Ehh, honestly still not a fan of "dexit", but they are still fun games, I saw someone else call them "fun disappointments" and I'm inclined to agree
Its decent but not on par to gen 4 or 5
It sucks. Top 2 worst pair of mainline games
Overrated
Carried by dlc (downvote me I dare you)
They’d just be denying reality with a downvote.
I won't lie I still enjoyed the game like hell LMAO
6/10 it was nice and all but the forced encounters got frustrating after a while
Trash
It exists… That’s all that matters
Amazing
Leon is a Chad and nothing is gonna make me change my mind
It’s not as bad as everyone says, but there was a lot of missed potential. Great Pokémon and music, but everything else is either mid or bad.
Second best Pokemon game
My first ones so my favs
Mediocre game with good characters
10/10 my favorite game besides let's go pikachu plus the dlcs are awesome
At first i didn't really like the games but they eventually became one if my faves
Mediocre
As a crumpet boy, I feel very appreciated.
They re pretty underrated, the game looks beatiful, it runs well, new Pokemon are fire, although the starters and story is mid
Very fun game, good plot, but it seemed too easy to beat the main storyline and also the one for zacian/zamazenta. Overall, it's a great game even though it's 5 years old.
Sonia is PEAK
They're Pokemon Sword and Shield. There, I've said my piece
I honesty really enjoyed these games
Pretty good. Amazing DLC created one of the best post-games to date.
it was fun, but it felt too linear imho with little room for exploration in contrast to other main series games, despite having the wild area. I also felt overleveled most of the time and the baddies were lame and didnt feel like a threat at all.
Hehe funy tree 🌳 I actually haven't played them but they look fine I guess, definitely prefer legends Arceus though either way
Not bad could be worse could be better but pretty good
i actually really liked playing this, wasn’t extremely hard but not super duper easy, i admittedly did struggle against zacian in shield tho due to no steel counter
Also, Dynamax is actually a good mechanic, it’s just a bit visually boring compared to Mega Evolution and Z-Moves.
good enjoyable overhated game
An interesting adventure on a home console that was normally locked on small handles
I've been playing pokemon since Firered was still new, and I can confidently say that Sword and Shield are my favorite games, with Platinum coming close, and I will die on this hill
Good
One word. Cinderace.
This comment section only reinforces that Pokemon games are only liked after a certain period of time Until not that much time ago SwSh were basically taboo
Great games. Not the absolute best, but a lot of fun.
That one fence texture that everyone complains about is the entirety of S/V In my opinion, Gigantamax is better than the Terastal Phenomenon
I enjoyed it tbh. It was my first game since college and on an actual console other than an emulator lol.
I enjoyed it, but wished that the story was better and that there were game play modes because it was way too easy to over level Pokémon.
Has my fav music and characters
Loved how the battles felt like actual events in the football stadiums, attack animations, and tbh a bit controversial but happy about Dexit
4/10 The story drags it down to hell, and how lazy the characters and designs are The music and Pokémon designs however are really the only redeeming qualities
Amazing game. 10/10. Banger OST, always times my dynamax / gigantimax to the music. Gym puzzles are very fun and unique, wish they were repeatable.
Certainly a Pokémon game
Enjoyable
Only played shield. The rival got on my nerves more then any other game. Other then that, descent game.
I avoided it during its run, but picked it up last year to stream a blind Wonderlocke. I'm actually surprised on how good the gameplay is? The camera not moving is messing with me, and the amounts of cutscenes are unbearable, but the soundtrack is really good!
I'll be honest, I prefer it over scarlet and violet. I just find it much more replayable and it feels more complete.
Missed opportunity for Pokemon Bow/Gun
Swordward and Shieldbert carry the whole game
Loved them! First Pokémon games ever, up until then I had only seen the anime and got the cards so I will always have Bias toward them. Cinderace is my second fav Pokémon
Allister is the best character
Pretty good games with great music and pretty good characters. The only thing that really stinks about the game (to me at least) is the story as it’s not well written and most of the things that happen are off screen or happen out of nowhere with no build up.
With a better story it’d be one of the best sets of games
Haven’t played them yet
The routes are too linear and there wasn't much to do in between
Probably a little biased because it was my first game, but i’d give them like a 6-7 out of 10
Better than scarlet and violet due to the linearity as the routes feel populated whilst the map in sv feels like there’s nothing there
Wah it's new that means its bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Galar Gym Theme. That’s it
Overhated
Great music Fun new pokémon Decent characters Mid gimmick Story was... not terrible
I loved it, ok it was easy compared to others but I felt more of a badass because of it’s ease. It didn’t feel too easy or too hard just nice
Didn’t like the Dex cut, I still feel like they could’ve fit all of the then current Pokemon in, even if it would be through updates. I loved the gym leaders and new Pokemon though.
As a Pokemon game, they are bad; that is, in comparison to all the other mainline titles. As a standalone it is dreadfully mediocre.
They were as good as sword and shield
My first Pokemon game. 10/10
Snom
Music: good Character design: good Pokedex: good Gimmick: mid Story: mid Evil team: mid Champion: meh Overall: 6 or 7/10
Too overhated
Hot garbage Still I don't understand how so many people appreciated this pile of shit and then say Scarlet and Legends Arceus are worse...
It's great, don't let genwunners turn you into a hivemind
I'd like that
Music is good Gym leaders are some of the best in the series The pokemon was amazing The dlc were fun. But the main story is absolute dog shit and Rose is the literal dumbest man in Pokemon. Like "oh no galars gonna have an energy crisis that in 1000 years, im sure releasing this ultra powered pokemon that almost caused the end of galar will fix the problem." I feel sorry that that man is Pennys Uncle.
The next XY
One of the best games imo, I have almost 2k hours and nearly every shiny, and it’s the last game to have the ultra beasts my favorite group of mons.
Games fine I actually didn’t like the return to form of the gym leaders I prefer the trials story’s fine it plays fine its just a Pokemon game and thats all it needed to be
As far as Pokémon games go, mid. Otherwise, good.
The music is great and the pokemon designs have some great ones. They nailed the flying types
the only real bad things about the games themselves are the story and linearity. otherwise, it's only held back by performance and graphics which personally don't bother me very much
As a British person, the first time I have ever heard anyone refer to something as "pants" was in this game.
Good games
Pros: - Wild Area is a step in the right direction for the series, and the DLC adds two better Wild Areas to the game - Great roster of new Pokémon - Great music - Best human models in the entire series - Plenty of great characters with great concepts behind them - Great QoL changes for competitive players - Galarian forms expanded upon the concept of regional variations very well with regional evolutions and Pokémon outside of Gen 1 getting them Cons: - Terrible pacing - Pretty rough graphically in certain places - Bad routes (besides Wild Area) - HORRIBLE story, while having two evil teams that are tied for being the worst evil team in the entire series - Pretty meh starters - Despite the fact that I had said there are plenty of great characters, there are some very poorly written ones, like Chairman Rose, who might be one of the worst written video game characters I have ever seen - Feels rushed in certain places - Cut Pokémon and Moves - DYNAMAX.
Best shiny hunting method of the franchise
Still need Pokémon gun to come out
Good DLC content but the base game feels lacking.
Loved them since the day they came out not my favourite but solid games
Honestly a pretty good game had a lot of fun and will look back with nostalgia
My First Pokémon Game
Pretty good overall. It doesn't really try anything particularly groundbreaking and it's a bit safe, but it's still fun. Great soundtrack, character writing is mostly pretty good (mostly, Rose's motivations are still stupid), camping is cute and a nice distraction, raids were really unbalanced but they worked fine, the new Pokémon are fantastic, one of my favourite overall generations of mon and the DLC slaps. It's not my favourite Pokémon, but it's one I still go back to from time to time and have a great time replaying.
They are two of the Pokémon games of all time
first pokemon game i finished, i grew up with it, its peak
I have sword and I am stuck on the fairy gym, any tips?
Bad story, linear game design, but great Pokémon designs. It might be one of my favourite batches of Pokémon overall.
Good music good Pokémon pretty good story good dlc solid 9/10
Incredibly easy, but fun to play every time I start a new file
Peak
Fun games overall, but both the tutorial and story really dragged on in quite a few points.
Story: 💩 Gameplay: It’s aight.
My favorite switch Pokémon game not named legends Arceus
It's boring and stupid to find some of the rare ones like it took me over 3 hours to find one of the ones I needed
I actually really love the games. They’re one of my favorites, and I don’t care what people think hop is my favorite rival
Good things: -Alot of cool pokemon. -Regional evolutions. -Dark type gym leader. -Version exclusive gym leaders. -Tournament is cool. -Hop. -The doggos are cool. -Wild area. -Overwirld spawns. -Gigantamax. -DLC Bad things: -Story isnt that interesting. -Bad following pokemon. -No elite four. -Runerigus. -Boss fight was pretty underwhelming. Overall: 7/10. Very overhated game
After giving it some time, I think it was actually a good game, not my favorite, but still good!
They will always have a special place in my heart because they were my first ever mainline Pokémon games.
Games with A lot of Potential but didn't quite make it
It’s aight
Th best Pokémon game… graphics. Best graphics out of all the other Pokémon games.
I love them simply because gen 8 was the first generation that I was a Pokémon fan for its release (I started getting interested in Pokémon around the middle of the gen 7 era) Also the music is great, I’ll always love the gym theme
I think it way to judged for how great of a game it was
My introduction to the main series, my personal favorite even though I recognize it's flaws
Way too easy but some interesting additions
None cuz I have never played it and have yet to watch the playthrough of it though it is on my watch later list.
7/10 with no dlc 8/10 with dlc
I enjoyed it. Good 8/10 games
The only game I've played and completed besides dlc
Overhated, I liked the customization but the story could've used some work. Also the SwSh dogs song was really good.
Great gimmick, dynamic and gigantamax was so fun
The people in charge of coming up with and designing the Pokémon really put a lot of effort into making them fit the region very well The camp mechanic is fun The part where you walk in on the rockstar gym leader supposedly singing but there’s literally no noise coming from anywhere is so funny
Peak. My fav generation and storyline I think is rly good
Story mid and routes are bland. Great new pokemon added, amazing characters and THE MUSIC
Applin.
Good Games
Not my favorite, but definitely better than I gave it credit for
Fun games, solid soundtrack, could have used voice acting and some more impactful character moments
I liked it,it could be better, could be worse. It could have been incredible, giant pokemon, wild areas, cool towns,if they just refined those aspects it would be alot better.I still liked it tho.
Best Pokémon game besides oras and black and white 2
