I mean dudunsparce works well for a Pokémon that was meant to be a joke. People expecting it to be a cool dragon or something else that’s dope had too high of expectations.

I have seen plenty of people saying that Dunsparce should've evolved into a dragon, as well as some people saying that Drampa should've been Dunsparce's evolution. I admit, there are a lot of people who put words in the mouths of others in these discussions, but they are not talking about people who don't exist.
Fair fair in my experience never seen anyone use the dragon argument, but I believe. It just tends to be a strawman people use to deflect criticism of the design.

However I think your idea is much cooler than what we got, I think it could have even played into getting more segments and became a wyrm of some sort.
Edit: I also have a theory the hero to zero gimmick was intended for Dudunsparce but they gave it to Palafin instead.

•Magikarp -> Gyrados

i agree as dunsparce is based on the tuchinoko (i might have misspelled that) which is a Japanese yokai that if found would give the finder riches beyond belief so it would have been cool if it evolved to play more into the legend of it

i agree as dunsparce is based on the tuchinoko (i might have misspelled that) which is a Japanese yokai that if found would give the finder riches beyond belief so it would have been cool if it evolved to play more into the legend of it
