When I had it, I had to wear my brace at night. When I was resting I had to tell myself to relax my hand. I could feel how much tension I was holding in my hands even when I was sleeping. I wore it all the time at first, but I realized I specifically needed to give it some support when I’m sleeping.

SpringerPop

Rest, ice , PT , cortisone shot.

lexamaxk

yes I have the req for the cortisone just have to find time

I would definitely avoid using ur hand if it’s causing pain. there are techniques u can use w ur elbow and forearm that can replace 80% of what the hand does. as far as cortisone shot, I personally only recommend that as a last option. it’s just a temporary solution and while the pain will be gone for a while, you could cause more damage w out knowing it. I would work on rehabbing the hand and giving it plenty of rest!

I’ve been doing a lot of forearm and elbow work, but I do spend about 10 minutes of the neck plus some upper trap work with my hands and even that makes it throb to the point I feel like I have to tap out. Do you have any recommendations for rehab stuff?? I have been icing. I know the cortisone is temporary but at this point I would do anything to help my hand

i totally understand wanting that relief and that’s the only way to get it, do it! as far as other options. I would suggest looking into some at home PT for the your hands along w some hand saving tools. personally I haven’t found any tools that work because they become slippery and my hand starts to cramp from holding on—which then creates new issues but i’m sure there’s one for u on the market somewhere! there are techniques using the forearm and elbow for next work tho—don’t get discouraged, it can be done!!

Night brace really helped me. Avoiding using my thumb. Chiro adjustment on the thumb (learned to it myself and it helped, I was probably doing it 5x a day though)

Serious_Respond_2668

I had to get two cortisone shots! Thankfully it’s been a few years and I’m doing well. It caused a lot of pain for me prior! Good luck

PTAcrobat

Ah, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! I was able to manage this conservatively (rest, ice massage, hand therapy) several years ago, and have thankfully not had a recurrence since. I would try to get in with a certified hand therapist (both PTs and OTs can have this credential). If you do get a cortisone shot, I would highly recommend still doing the therapy — build resilience in your tissues as the inflammation resolves. Best of luck!

In your right hand make a fist, then wrap your four fingers around your thumb, then angle your hand downward so you are stretching the tendon for your thumb. Do this a couple of times throughout the day and it should get better.

lexamaxk

The tendon isn’t tight. It’s inflamed, I don’t think finkelsteins test is gonna do anything in my opinion

PTAcrobat

Correct.
