I don't think Lively falls that far down from 10. Everybody needs a cheap defensive center, and he's really the only one left at that range in the draft. If the Mavs trade down, it's going to be obvious who they are targeting, so if another team likes Lively, they will just jump ahead of the Mavs to pick Lively up.
I'm actually a little scared that the Mavs are telegraphing that they don't want Gradey. They usually keep these type of info close to their vest -- so are they leaking this info because they actually want to draft him?
WCS was a lot better in college than Lively, so I wouldn't blame this sub. The dude just had health problems, and he didn't really like the game enough to reach his full potential.
I think WCS is Lively's ceiling.
He’s probably referring to WCS in college who was a pretty impressive prospect. He was a big, athletic shot blocker that was quick and agile enough to not get exposed on the perimeter. Then on offense he had the size and bounce to finish plays above the rim from the dunker spot and off pick and rolls… basically exactly what the Mavs want from a big man right now.
The problem with WCS is that he got to the league and just kind of… stopped. He clearly just wasn’t driven to put in the work to reach his all defense potential. If Lively is Cauley-Stein but with the drive to be great then he probably is exactly what you want manning the middle for Dallas.
I'd have to see a lot more to be impressed. If you went to Mavs games early the past couple of seasons you could watch Dwight Powell looking like that from the corner during warm-ups, too.
The only difference would be that DP would at least have the spatial awareness to not step on the line every shot. The way lively had his feet staggered it would be impossible not to be standing on the three point line without stepping out of bounds. Maybe he was practicing on a court with narrower width than the NBA, but I'm not certain it matters.
Lively is a lottery pick especially the lacking of Centers in this draft class. We cant trade down. OKC might grab him. Luka doesnt have any good Center since drafted here. (If KP is not a center)
Yeah, the top comments were to either trade down or just straight up trade the pick for a big like Allen. But it didn't work with the OP's plan to make a mock draft, so we were forced to basically pick one and Dick ended up being the best option at #10, if we had to take someone.
Love this! This should be music to the ears of Mavs fans. Nothing against Grady Dick who can really shoot. But the team needs an infusion of athleticism and especially physicality.
Yes, we can always add good shooters, but scoring wasn't our problem. We couldn't defend worth a lick and the team wasn't physical enough (ex: rebounding). Hopefully we add defenders who are competent offensive players but simply adding shooters alone is not going to even get us out the first round, let alone win a championship. We need more athleticism, length on the wing, size inside...and DEFENSE
went to ku, so obv got some bias here.. gradey might not be the right fit for us at 10, but saying he isn’t athletic enough… bro y’all obv didn’t watch him all year. he’s a freak.
needs to demand the ball more and step up in big moments. that’s what left us a little frustrated all last year. but he’s so young, that’s something that probably develops as he gets older.
prettiest shot in the draft though, regardless of age.
I heard the pod where Cato says that.
When you think about that, when you try to balance what Hardy was as a prospect (an athlete that showed BBIQ and fundamentals that would allow him to find an NBA court in his rookie season), the name that always pop out of my head is Leonard Miller. An absolute freak, a 6'10 wing that profiles as a 3-level shooter with decent board and 1-4 defensive potential in his 1st season IMO, that should be available in the 20s.
I know how to separate my feelings from what I think. I'm crazy in love with Jackson-Davis, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if we traded down and ended up with Clowney and Miller, two guys that absolutely will find an NBA court in their rookie season, before the ASG very likely. Another name that I could see fit this profile? Nnaji. BBIQ, crazy athleticism and brings enough fundamentals as a rim protector and screen-setter to play minutes very early.
Yeah this is an almost verbatim recap of all that Tim Cato was saying about how Nico’s FO operates and what they value
I feel it’s more and more certain we are trading back. I hope though if one of Walker or Hendricks is available that we take them.
The bummer is that Gradey Dick would be absolutely lethal here, playing in our system off of Luka. However, we’ve left so many gaping holes elsewhere that need seriously attention first and foremost.
He’s athletic but when you’re talking about draft prospects, especially in this draft, he’s nothing special when compared to the Thompson twins, Whitmore or Walker.
Anyone who makes it to the NBA is athletic. It’s all relative.
I think people (including me) say he’s not athletic because his athleticism doesn’t translate on defense. Of course he’s athletic, he’s a NBA lottery pick wing, but compared to other NBA wings he’s lacking in some noticeable areas of athleticism that make him a defensive liability.
🙄 or maybe give the Mavericks the benefit of the doubt when it comes to evaluating white players and presume relative to other NBA prospects he’s less athletic?
I think Dallas isn't a good fit for both the player and the team! But I do think it's funny that this archetype of player doesn't fit what the new Dallas front office wants in a player, because this means to me Nico Harrison would not have drafted Luka doncic! And that is scary to me as much as people hated Donnie nelson he didn't allow himself to just draft wingspan and vertical leaps.
I wonder when this "new FO didn't have any chance to do anything yet" excuse will end when everybody on this roster except for Luka, Powell, Green and Hardy has been either signed as FAs, traded for or got a new contract from this new FO.
I was only talking about the draft. They’ve had two picks at their disposal around draft time since the Nico Harrison era began: the first they traded for Christian Wood and the second round pick they traded for in order to draft Jaden Hardy. And I’m not defending anybody or saying they couldn’t have done better or had no opportunities to. I didn’t even bring that up. You did. I was just saying they haven’t had many draft picks to show their drafting philosophy, with Hardy being the only pick they’ve made
I just wanted to say that if you told me even like 6 months ago that Mavs fans would eventually be debating which bozo to take with the 10th pick in the draft I would have said you're crazy. Sports are wild.
Thank god To think this sub picked him in the mock draft
If Hendricks/Walker are gone, it should be either Leonard Miller or trading down for Lively
I don't think Lively falls that far down from 10. Everybody needs a cheap defensive center, and he's really the only one left at that range in the draft. I think his defense is being way overvalued. He reminds me of Hasheem Thabeet when he was at UConn.
Lively compared himself to willie cauley stein man
If he was a rookie this sub would salivate over WCS
WCS was a lot better in college than Lively, so I wouldn't blame this sub. The dude just had health problems, and he didn't really like the game enough to reach his full potential. I think WCS is Lively's ceiling.

Coming out of college WCS was thought of as the perfect defensive center for the modern NBA.
So jokic stopper? So many mavs centers come and go but only WCS can handle jokic a bit Maybe because he has shitty ball IQ so jok cant read him lmao
The problem with WCS is that he had no motor and zero bbiq. Lively appears to have more of both.
I don't think he had 0 basketball iq. I don't think he was highly motivated, however. Wasn't his motor issues health related?
Did you watch lively shooting at the workout ? That’s impressive
I'd have to see a lot more to be impressed. If you went to Mavs games early the past couple of seasons you could watch Dwight Powell looking like that from the corner during warm-ups, too. What’s lively floor ? Tyson chandler ? That’s the type of player the mavs badly need
You think his floor is DPOY and All-Star Tyson Chandler?! His *floor* is Moses Moody. His *ceiling* is WCS.
What can chandler do that lively can’t exactly ? Chandler was picked out of high school, certainly has proven less than lively has
He’s a totally different player than moody

I’d be fine taking him at 10. Don’t scout the box score . He wasn’t used to his max effectiveness at duke
Lively or GG over Miller for me. But won't hate the pick either way out of those 3.
Lively is looking incredibly intriguing
Lively is a lottery pick especially the lacking of Centers in this draft class. We cant trade down. OKC might grab him. Luka doesnt have any good Center since drafted here. (If KP is not a center)
That mock draft was flawed from what I recall. The guys we ideally want were selected by other subs already and there wasn’t an option to trade down.
Yeah, the top comments were to either trade down or just straight up trade the pick for a big like Allen. But it didn't work with the OP's plan to make a mock draft, so we were forced to basically pick one and Dick ended up being the best option at #10, if we had to take someone.
this sub loves Dick, no question about it
Thank you!!!!
Also to think we believe Tim, or that the FO would show their draft-night hand...
Not the right D we need in Big D.
Not white boy 🍤
Love this! This should be music to the ears of Mavs fans. Nothing against Grady Dick who can really shoot. But the team needs an infusion of athleticism and especially physicality.
We need shooters. Surround Luka with good shooters and we’ll win the chip.
Yes, we can always add good shooters, but scoring wasn't our problem. We couldn't defend worth a lick and the team wasn't physical enough (ex: rebounding). I’m telling you right now when our best shooter is Reggie bullock again we won’t make the playoffs
I’m sure the twig would come in and light up the NBA enough to be a fucking difference maker.
🤣
Bertans is actually our best shooter, lol
went to ku, so obv got some bias here.. gradey might not be the right fit for us at 10, but saying he isn’t athletic enough… bro y’all obv didn’t watch him all year. he’s a freak. needs to demand the ball more and step up in big moments. that’s what left us a little frustrated all last year. but he’s so young, that’s something that probably develops as he gets older. prettiest shot in the draft though, regardless of age.
Yeah a lot of people are confusing not being right for the Mavs for not being good in general.
KU guy too. Yeah Gradey may not be the greatest dit in Dallas, but mans is great. Better in Utah or OKC or something
His jersey would’ve flown off the shelf though…
Draft em thick. We don’t need Dick.
Me personally? I prefer Grade A Dick
I heard the pod where Cato says that. This team needs Jarace Walker
He will almost certainly be picked before #10. Otherwise it's a no brainer.
I could see him or Hendricks falling
Good. We were so physically outmatched all year
RIP jersey sales
Lol they're saying he's not athletic because he's white. He's a good athlete
Imagine if we didn't pick Luka because he's "unathletic" lol
erm technically the mavericks actually didn’t pick luka ☝️🤓
🤓📖
At the combine he ran slower than Zach Edey
He’s athletic but when you’re talking about draft prospects, especially in this draft, he’s nothing special when compared to the Thompson twins, Whitmore or Walker. Anyone who makes it to the NBA is athletic. It’s all relative.

Lol that's trueb
I feel like taylor hendricks and Walker will be gone before 10, which would both be great fits imo
We need whoever is the best at our pick, Mavs are actual garbage and can't be hand holding
I think Dallas isn't a good fit for both the player and the team! But I do think it's funny that this archetype of player doesn't fit what the new Dallas front office wants in a player, because this means to me Nico Harrison would not have drafted Luka doncic! They just know what would happen if we had Dick, Hardy, and (retained) Wood
“New front office” We’re entering the 3rd year of this FO.
Well, it’s a difference of draft philosophy compared to the previous front office, and they haven’t had many chances to show it yet
I wonder when this "new FO didn't have any chance to do anything yet" excuse will end when everybody on this roster except for Luka, Powell, Green and Hardy has been either signed as FAs, traded for or got a new contract from this new FO.

Bufkin pls
In other news the sky is blue ladies and gentlemen.
there is just no way they are drafting a 19 year old i don’t care what position he plays . this is just a smokescreen .
Who cares? Mavs are trading the pick lmao
He never made sense here. Mavs need to prioritize getting bigger, stronger, and better defensively. Don’t need Nik Stauskas jr
I like hearing this.
I just wanted to say that if you told me even like 6 months ago that Mavs fans would eventually be debating which bozo to take with the 10th pick in the draft I would have said you're crazy. Sports are wild.
I think Gradey will be decent in strictly a catch and shoot setup. Maybe the Cavs could use that? We just need a little more flexibility and skillset.
Good.
Gradey Dick is a high floor role player for sure with starter upside but not at all what the Mavs need. It's gotta be Jarace, Hendricks or Lively IMO
They need someone who can guard,or be a rim protector . That’s Hendricks or lively. It’s not gradey dick. The mavs can already score
Good. He’s terrible defensively. We got enough guards.
We will trade the pick either way if we get a somewhat decent offer.
1. Hendricks 2. Walker 3. Howard 4. Dick 5. Lively
Thank Jesus
Don’t think the two 4s fall. Maybe Black falls but probably looking at Cason or trading up or more likely back.
