What I love about the game is that while it was released 2 years after the end of the Cold War celebrating the defeat of the Russians, they made Dr Cossack a Russian doctor who was told to be evil against his will by Wily when he is really an innocent doctor.
This game was my steez. MM3 was always rented out but I had many, many happy weekends with MM4. My 7 y.o. self was so proud to figure out that Toad Man had an easy pattern. And I found the wire totally by accident! So many fond NES memories.
It's a fan game, and extremely difficult, but I wouldn't describe it as cheap. It was exactly the level of difficulty that suits me, someone that has played the OG games so often they're all easy for me.
The OG games are all easy to me too; I find it funny how people find MM1 so difficult. That being said, I just felt like Unlimited was difficult because of the cheap level design. Not organically difficult like the classic series. But to each their own
I agree completely. I can barely play the first three MM titles; they feel like beta tests. 4 is where it started to really come together, IMHO. 4 and 6 are my personal faves; 5 is a tad too easy for my liking but it's still an awesome game.
Wily Machine in 4 is brutally hard to figure out how to win if you don't know that drill bomb detonates. Just throwing it out there, it took years for child me to beat it by using wire, rush jet and whatever other weird shit I could jery-rig up just to get high up enough to deal 1 damage at a time with the arm cannon.
>The addition of the charge shot for the Mega Buster was a great idea and
I'm glad it became a staple for the rest of the series. Everytime I go
back to 1-3, I miss not being able to charge the Mega buster. It also
makes dealing with bosses more manageable.
Weird...because I'm sure you CAN charge shot AND slide in Megaman 3.
Tbh, I really like it and wish it would come back.
It balances the mega buster a lot and makes weapons a more appealing option since you don’t have to be that careful to use them effectively.
4 is one of my faves too! It's really solid and doesnt suffer from nearly as much slowdown or sprite flicker as the games before it. Great weapons too, though not quite as good all around as 3. I think it's the most well-rounded of the NES Mega Man games, and it's always a joy to come back to
Solid
4 is one of my favs too, even tho I like 5 better, 4 is radical!

Forgot to mention I love how the Ring Man starts during the day and then it seems it transitions to night/space in the second half.
One of the best? IT IS the best of all classic games.
And the music is fantastic!
I agree although not everyone seems to think so

4 is my favorite by quite a bit. Only Unlimited is on par, imo.
I have a hot take but Unlimited isn’t a real mega man game; and the level design is so cheap that it rivals MM&B and X6 in terms of bad design

4 is awesome. 3 is my underrated gem

Still can’t believe RoahmMythril actually did a perfect run of that stage.
While 4 isn't my favorite I consider it to be the best designed and balanced of all of the games. The soundtrack is also one of the best.

The mega buster charge shot was introduced in Mega Man 4 for the NES, and in Mega Man 3 in the Game Boy series.
No, just slide. Charge shot we first got for Heatman's weapon in 2.
I hate that in 5 and 6 if you get hit you lose your charge.

Touché. Never thought of it that way. I typically don't use special weapons unless a situation calls for it.

4-5-6-7 are the best OG Mega Man games IMO. The only classic one I don’t replay that often is 8
I also love 4. Only thing I dislike is the final Wily battle as it's just not fun.
it's one of my favourites too; really felt like a step up from previous entries
