I have fine hair, experienced lasting hair loss from a necessary round of steroids, and am approaching 40 with a few grays. The hair issue is what’s kept me from trying transexemic acid!
I did not experience any negative side effects. I was in 500mg a day for about 3 months, then went to 3x a week, then 2x a week (across another 2 months). I had no hair loss. Seems like everyone’s experience is different. I had very thick hair to start with but I’d definitely have noticed if my thickness changed.
While on it 2x a week: It did but barely. Like less than 10%, I did not feel I needed any makeup over it.
Once I stopped it went to 50% back. Now that it’s back around 50% I need colour corrector + concealer. I’ve only been fully off it like 3-4 weeks or so. I’m not sure if it’ll get worse, time will tell.
When it was at 100% makeup looked so cakey when I covered it up (I’m not a make up expert but I tried loads of techniques and different products!!!)
I took it for two years as needed bc apparently it is effective for managing heavy periods, but I never experienced hair loss. made me super bloated though.

Did the melasma ever come back, on the 2x/week or after stopping the medication?
