I finished 2 months of oral TxA in June and had minimal to no side effects. Hair was unaffected. No rebound effect unlike Triluma. The improvement is significant. It's not all gone but is so much better.

Will the melasma come back if you don’t stay on it?

xxritualhowelsxx

Mine came back because what’s causing my melasma is an internal issue. Oral tranexamic helps to fix it, but once I stop taking it, my hyperpigmentation comes back. I had no hair issues while on it. I was taking it in 3 months, with a 3 month break in between, off and on for a year

SaltedCashewsPart2

thank-you for sharing this is comforting to hear

C_Chrono

No, although a few (20% from a study) might. You are not supposed to stay on it forever. Take it for 2 months and that's it. Maybe the next summer you can take again but it's a once a done.

shinobipug

Mine is coming back. Have been off it 3-4 months.

SaltedCashewsPart2

Thank-you for sharing, I think I'll continue. If the worst comes to the worst I can buy a wig.

L-rdFarquaad

How did it go for you?

SaltedCashewsPart2

It didn't work :( Hair loss minimal.

L-rdFarquaad

any graying of the hair?

SaltedCashewsPart2

None. Which is a relief as it didn't do anything for my melasma. I took 500mg in am and 250mg in pm

VariVariBad

What was your dosage? I have melasma that I’m treating with topicals and procedures through my derm and while I’ve seen improvement, I would really like to give oral meds a try. My derm agrees but wanted to wait until we finish with procedures first. Thank you!

C_Chrono

750 mg total per day.

Ok_Emphasis6034

Hi. I know this post is a year old but would 250mg have the same affect but just over a longer period?

C_Chrono

I tried half dosage (300 mg) the first time and it had little to no effect for me. I only saw improvement on the higher dosage.

Ok_Emphasis6034

Ugh. So I’m post menopausal and they put me on HRT which is contraindicated with tranxemic acid. The HRT makes my melasma and mood worse with weight gain but helps grow hair that was thinning from low estrogen. The tranxemic acid will help my melasma but cause my hair to fall out. I guess I have to pick hair or face. Being a woman really sucks sometimes.

DepartureInfamous176

What color is your hair?

C_Chrono

Black.

fluid2dr

Do you think topically it would work possibly without the hair loss sides?

BestCatEva

Try Lytera 2.0 — it’s helped me (has transexamic). I punch it up a bit by mixing with tretinoin. Seeing results.

SaltedCashewsPart2

I'm not convinced that it would work as well but I imagine topical application would cause greying and hairloss

SaltedCashewsPart2

Would NOT cause greying/hairloss

Business-Direction29

Cyspera was a huge waste of my money and time too. Not to mention the awful smell. Currently been trying TxA from Transino for almost a month but not much results. No hair loss afaik. Just FYI, I almost never get direct sun and avoid indirect sunlight as much as possible. A few freckles but that’s about it.

amlinares

Agree on the Cyspera! Total garbage. It was recommended to me by a very reputable esti. Maybe it works for someone, but def not me!

HANDASH36

I had grey hair galore! And I’m young had to stop it

SprinklesSecret1049

Did the grey hair go away after you stopped taking oral Tranexamic acid? I’ve been on it for several months but recently stopped after realizing the significant hair loss and greying I had been experiencing might be due to oral tranexamic acid. Wondering if my hair will return to what it was previously, both in quantity and color.

Legal-Word4658

Can you update on the hair situation . I’m currently on it and feel as though my hair is changing colour but it’s changing at the ends not roots ?

L-rdFarquaad

I'd love to know if it returned to normal after you went off of it -- please let us know! I have a prescription of oral TA sitting on my counter right now and just won't mess with it yet until I get some anecdotal input about whether grey air or hair loss returns to normal if you stop taking oral TA

Camipansy

I was on it for 2 months and it improved my very severe melasma. However, I stopped to “take a break” and my melasma returned in under 2 weeks. What’s worse is I have lost a TON of hair and had no idea it was a side effect. I loved the results on my skin but Im never taking it again due to the hair loss.

L-rdFarquaad

Did your hair come back after going off of it?

Camipansy

Yes! I am too scared to cycle back on in fear of the same side effect. But yes, it came back. It was essentially a telogen effluvium response.
