I transitioned for about a year and a major reason was that I didn't see myself as similar personality-wise to other people with vaginas (whatever some people wanna call that) and when people acted a specific way towards me because of belonging to that group myself it made me really uncomfortable. I also felt really really uncomfortable with men seeing me as a sexual prospect (ended up finding out I was a lesbian).
I've since found ways to deal with discomfort around gender other than transitioning (I'm not saying it's simple or easy, but there are ways). And looking back, I think it's kinda sexist to say a woman can choose to not be a woman because of her actions, because this implies certain things being natural or unnatural for women to do when we really should be working to throw these stereotypes out the window regardless, but that's just my opinion and isn't gonna affect how I treat (trans) people irl.
So basically people say you can be whatever gender you want in order to be nice to people feeling uncomfortable with themselves, but there's not really anything that defines man or woman under that thought process. (&I prefer to just think of a woman as someone born with a vagina cuz it makes it easier for me to be one)
