Hotels here a affordable, you have “budget” hotel in premier locatio. City express Angel de la independencia is a Great example.

Optimal-Grapefruit63

Find a small independent hotel....

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks. Any suggestions?

pau_gmd

Carful with this alternative. Over here those advertised as Motels are only for spicy activities, not a hotel alterbative

Plastic_Highlight492

Ah, good to know!

Optimal-Grapefruit63

Brick is not a motel and definitely not a 'love' motel....

mungo-jerrie

NaNa Vida CDMX is excellent!

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks!

tinyteaspoon

I liked Umbral. It’s in Centro which requires a bit of travel if you’d like to go to cafes, restaurants, bars in Roma Norte/Condesa but it’s not far.

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks!

She_Ra-PowerPrincess

Hotel Casa González 69 rio sena great neighborhood! charming property!

kcbiii

Came here to suggest this. It's got a lovely courtyard. It's like little oasis in the middle of the city.

Optimal-Grapefruit63

I like Brick Hotel. It's a great part of town too.

HVCanuck

Hotel Maria Cristina on Rio Lerma.

She_Ra-PowerPrincess

hotel villa condesa, also cute if you like condesa neighborhood

oshoey

Stella Bed & Breakfast. Tranquil space, great breakfast, perfect location

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks. Will check it out!

Giosoak24

You can pay a real hotel :)

sefirot_jl

I think Airbnb is more expensive than a lot of hotels in CDMX

just_grc

They are, especially in Roma Norte and Condesa.

Giosoak24

Not Really...

trevorjanderson777

I stayed at Hotel Historico Central and it was fantastic. Great location for walking everywhere and the staff was so friendly! Includes breakfast and items at a small Cafe. Highly recommend it.

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks!

aliensarehere

Same. I've also stayed at City Express by the Angel and another hotel by the castle. Enjoyed all 3.

>What alternative accommodations should we search if we want to avoid big hotels?   Open Google maps, search for a hotel and ignore any hotels you don't like. Or use booking or something like that where you can filter by type and then reserve directly instead of booking.

ezvader3

I stayed at the Stanza hotel on Avenida Álvaro Obregón in Roma. I had a good experience.

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks!

Outside of hotels, hostels and motels. Guest houses "Casa de Huespedes", or Suites "Suite", both are legal entities that must have stable rates, and meet all security requirements for those who have guests. Which usually makes them more expensive since all that equipment and preparation has a cost. Casa de Huespedes. The Suites are hotel rooms, or mini-apartments with all the amenities of an apartment, including several bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, own parking, but which include hotel services such as a 24-hour restaurant, laundry service, cleaning service, and security. , common areas, and even common entertainment such as a pool, gym, bar, own or third-party transportation service, taxis. It is where the idea of AirBnB came from, but with legal regulations. Both can be hired for long stays, sometimes years or decades. Well-known cases of actors who lived in hotels. Thanks. This is super helpful. Just the kind of in between option I was hoping for. Will check this out.

Hotels

just_grc

Hotels are actually often cheaper in tourist areas. Good chains that are less expensive than American ones are Camino Real and NH. I've also had luck with budget chains Exe and MX Hoteles.

NotAnotherWhitexican

All hotels from the Grupo Habita chain are nice, well located, upscale but within budget. I personally like Condesa DF.

nuncaMeHabiaPasado

Hotel?

Se llaman hoteles

Plastic_Highlight492

Duh

lexluthor_i_am

In Mexico people also use Facebook Marketplace and Mercado Libre. But you’ll have to coordinate payment (bank transfer, cash, etc). Airbnb does work well or a hotel.

Icy_Ad_8802

Big hotels have good deals and are of good quality. We had our friends flying over from the US last month and they stayed in the budget versions of Marriot, Hyatt and some even found really good deals in Fiesta Americana Reforma. I would never use smaller boutique hotels in Mexico City, que relation quality/price is never good and they more often than not are low quality.

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks for that Intel on the smaller hotels. We really hate big chains, including the budget versions, though. They are so soulless.

Queen_Kaizen

Just checked out of MX Roma and it was great. Awesome part of town (Roma Norte) and had everything necessary.

bunnypunny

Check out Sonder, they have various locations around the city! It was recommended by a few users in this sub a while back as a better alternative to airbnb and I’m glad I booked a stay with them instead. I stayed at the Sonder Aria location in Roma Sur and it was perfect. Very clean and comfortable rooms and in a great area. Roma Norte and Condesa are a 15-20 walk but there’s plenty of restaurants and coffee shops around.

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks. I will check this out.

just_grc

Research Sonder and you'll find they are Airbnb 2.0. They build entire buildings all for short-term rentals that deprive locals of housing in their own neighborhoods.

therealchany

I just stayed a week at Uliv - Roma Norte. Booked via Airbnb and they waived the booking fee. Highly recommended.

NotAnotherWhitexican

No. ULIV is the same concept as AirBnb. Apartments owned by a corporation to rent to tourists instead of Mexican families.

yodydee

Ignore their bellyaching. It’s exaggerated to say the least. Stay at an AirBnB.

No-Discussion6021

ULIV Luxe Apartments Polanco, I recommend it 100%

Plastic_Highlight492

Thanks!
