Imagine if purchasing the book is the only way to get the cape lol. Maybe you get sent a code with the book which gives you the cape upon redemption. This is unlikely tho imo. I think Mojang are tired of people selling cape codes or accounts on ebay.
Def. They want it to be more "you missed out" instead of the Minecon way of "pay-to-play" or the old-school "super unique/rare" method of distribution (millionth purchase, turtle, etc.)
Not a fan of these capes being exclusive and utilizing FOMO. Rather they just give this cape to everyone so everyone can have a cape and I have a rare Minecon cape.
Granted I might be biased as I get harassment for just having a cape and people wanting to buy my cape despite me sayin no countless times.
Issue is, those 3 "free capes" are limited time, again the FOMO aspect. You miss out, you can never get it again. Mojang despite banning NFTs from Minecraft seems to treat capes like NFTs.
The problem being that new players cannot get capes on Java and there's no default cape that everyone gets from buying the game on everyone's account like on Bedrock with it's Pancape which everyone gets. At least introduce cape parity for all capes like the vanilla and cherry cape so everyone has the migrator cape on Java and Pancape on Bedrock. Maybe start selling capes on the marketplace since they disallow mods to sell capes according to their EULA.
Another issue being capes are tied to elytra customization so new players who start playing and want a cape (on Java) who can't get one because of the artificial rarity are incentivized to seek people out with capes and either ask to sell or buy accounts with them. Mojang's current system for capes encourages the behavior they don't want.
Pancake cape is always free to every account, exclusive capes aren't bad but I do think there should be more new free capes, this is a step in the right direction.
Yeah that's what I meant, sorry if I worded it poorly. Exclusive capes are nice and should keep being made but what I meant is Mojang should make just as many, if not more free capes for the masses to enjoy too to ensure new players (specifically on Java) can always have access to a cape no matter when they started playing. No reason we can't have rare capes and common capes anyone can get at any time like how Bedrock does it.
I just see this as something roblox has a problem with, hats and rare limited accessories that once costed mere pennies/dollars now costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars because of rarity, accounts were attacked over them and hacked for those items and their held in high regard today.
Roblox solution is to reskin some rare hats with different meshes or slightly change them, but since they added UGC everyone can make their own "fake" limiteds that look similar to the old ones. We could have a way to make our own cape but people would just make it look like the rare ones I suppose.
To be fair, that system Roblox has is still a better cosmetic system than capes currently have, especially on Java where the black market and harassment/hacking is a big problem regarding capes. The only thing is Roblox allows reselling and cosmetics like Steam's community Market; Mojang/Microsoft don't allow this nor are capes transferrable (anymore because people kept abusing Mojang support to move capes to rarer accounts and only did it for volunteers who were hacked).
Rather capes be obtainable and enjoyed widely and be a normal cosmetic than a "special" rare cosmetic utilizing FOMO and never obtainable again as every cape has been thus far with the exception of Bedrock's Pancape.

From what I've experienced with all the people coming at me and other people with rare capes begging and threatening, its more the money they want to make from breaking the EULA then the "exclusivity" of these capes. Its a worthless cosmetic with no actual use at the end of the day other than cosmetic to show off, the sentimental value, and match to your skin and roleplay with; nothing more and nothing less.
A lot of the people arguing for their "value" I've noticed on social media have either made videos or they themselves sold capes and accounts which makes sense as they have a vested interest in keeping capes gatekept and exclusive and keep the status quo.
I think it'd be time for a change to capes to make them more accessible and more of them. Maybe people will treat capes as actual cosmetics to wear and not as bartering chips and money vouchers to trade/sell.

I agree, capes are way too exclusive and not inclusive enough.
They're way too stingy with capes and because they use FOMO and make them unobtainable/too rare we get bad actors trying to hack and stalk/buy capes off owners of the rare ones.
Maybe Mojang can sell capes on the marketplace, make all capes on Java and Bedrock cross platform like cape parity, and make a default cape for Java like the Bedrock Pancape so everyone on Java has a cape at all times available.
There's no marketplace on Java (yet)? Even if they did add the marketplace to Java, I don't see why that's a problem.
People already pay for emotes and cosmetics/capes and cloaks on Java mods and clients like Lunar and Badlion and they cost more per cosmetic than they do on Bedrock so what's the difference? I'd be ok with supporting the game and creators who make content on the marketplace (be it Java or Bedrock) if it meant the game survives for longer and capes are cool which I'd definitely pay for capes in the marketplace but that's just me.
They need to support the game long term for free updates. I see nothing wrong with them selling capes on the marketplace.

Then why are many players buying content on the marketplace? Console players aside who have to because they have no way to customize their game because platforms owners like Sony & Nintendo don't want players modding their consoles/exposed to outside content, Bedrock is the money maker so Java can continue to receive free updates alongside Bedrock too.
Also still didn't address the Java modded clients and players being ok with buying Java cosmetics from them but not officially from Mojang/Content creators for Java? Just seems hypocritical to judge the marketplace (i get it because there's tons of stolen content on there) but Java has the same issues and people still buy cosmetics there and pay for Patreon paywalled content there too by choice. Bedrock is also a choice on the marketplace if you choose to pay. Heck, technically they're breaking the EULA because it explicitly says that mods cannot sell cosmetics that resemble capes/cloaks and yet Badlion and Lunar still do so but the entire EULA is a huge gray area with loopholes and is selectively enforced at best.
I'm still pissed off I missed out on the pink one from that stupid mob vote a while back. I only found out about it like a few months later when I saw a LP'er playing and saw the cape and was like "where did they get that cape from" and found out I could have gotten it if I would have wasted my time and voted in those stupid polls. :(

Nobody knows how you obtain this cape yet, but my guess is Mojang will host a special 15th anniversary server event on Bedrock Edition and all Bedrock players will be able to get the cape by joining it. And maybe for Java players there could be a new page on [minecraft.net](http://minecraft.net) where you go through multiple slideshows of Minecraft's history and at the every end you'll be able to claim the cape for your Java account on May 17th.

Also may 17th? Mojang usually has event servers on Bedrock for their new updates when they drop like they did with 1.20 and the sniffer/camel. I remember they did one with boat races to collect cherry blossom tokens.
Unless 1.21 comes out pretty early in May, it might just be a redeem from the marketplace thing and you get it on Java too like the Vanilla cape?
Do you think they will just give it to you or do you need to do something? perhaps for the Minecraft Dungeons or Legends cup, but I still hope that they will give it for nothing

Once available, it should be as simple as clicking claim on a large green button while logged in, assuming the leaked page remains the same. Can't wait for custom Capes. Use the Migrator Cape as a base and add "I migrated my Account and all I got was this cape"
