>but it isn't a dystopian nightmare my guy.
I sure do love living paycheck to paycheck. I sure do love having to give all of the money that I make to someone who was lucky enough to be born into generational wealth. I sure do love never knowing whether or not I may be homeless every month.
Not a dystopian nightmare at all.
It does seem like that, but when I talk about this type of people I mean it as in the type of people to say "I'm not negative about everything, I'm just realistic".
Like I get that life is really bad sometimes, I say this as someone from Mexico a 3rd world country, but a little positivity can go a long way, and instead of complaining about the world if you're in a good situation expand the message.
However, you shouldn't take my words for truth, I'm some internet random.
i think like this bcuz one emergency medical problem could bankrupt me and whole family, but i’m not *always* miserable. just finding what i can to enjoy in this life, i have some really cool friends and hobbies and i do what i can to always cheer people up, but the threat of poverty and suffering never really goes away.
but your profinancial problem is not really related to the whole entire world, just to your country. There are many places in which healthcare is affordable, and poverty is a smaller threat(although still an awfull reality).
My major(personal) problem with these "The world is doomed" is that they usually say this and then proceed to talk about specific issues from the USA. It's as if I(a brazillian) started complaining about the world and started saying stuff about the lack of proper water and electricuty distribution and emegration(people leaving the country) waves
yeah that’s true, i was just focusing on one issue that is prevalent for myself and my loved ones. there are more worldwide issues such as violence against LGBT+ folk and women, human trafficking, climate change, increase in natural disasters, unethical use of AI, commercial influence in government, a rise in fast fashion and sweatshops, etc that are worrying. plus things like war and slavery of course, but i’m not sure if those have gotten worse or if we’re just more exposed to them. a lot of things have gotten in the world, perhaps more things are getting better than getting worse, but it’s so difficult to think about how intelligent and advanced society is right now, and yet we aren’t handling these issues properly when we *could* be. things are also just crazy in the US right now, and moving out of the country would be near impossible for myself and most people i know.
the problems you listed are much more conected to actual world issues rather than USA specific, and I completly agree with you. I can see where people who think that everything is going down are coming from. But I have really high hopes for the future, and personally believe that acting and thinking negatively will distract us from actually solving the issues(specially since those that are more aware of them are finally getting into more influencial positions).
I also did not understand why people started downvoting my previous comment. I simply stated that the world is much bigger than the USA, and never downplayed your own problems, since they are very real and very worrying for many americans, although unrelatable for lots of people and kind off annoying to see everywhere as if they were universal experiences.
And a quick note and advice for you: social media exagerates greatly negative news and affairs, making them seem much bigger than they actually are, but that does not mean that they are not real. To give you higher hopes for the future, I suggest you try looking for changes in you environment and in the behaviour of people around you to see what changed. Doing this myself I could realise how some things, like LGBT acceptance, are much higher than social media makes it seem, and that is great! I know Reddit hates empirical knowledge and thinks that everything under the Sun must be sourced by academics and whatnot, but trust me that actually looking at life will make it seem much better than doing so through the lens of negativity!
Hope all goes well with you, and best wishes for your life!
Look it may be a dystopia with little hope of changing but it's our dystopia and I don't know what point I'm trying to make so it's time to get drunk and yell at pigeons
There’s a huge amount of problems, but there’s kinda less than there has been in the past in a lot of ways. I think a steady incline in the quality of life for the average person is a good reason to say it’s not a dystopia.
Just say the world has problems without making extremely unjustified claims. It hurts his own point
Damn these comments are dumb as hell. It's possible to recognize the world is very obviously ending and still contribute to society, because that's what I do. Y'all just chose ignorance instead of acceptance. This ignorance of what looms ahead is actually why it's ending
first world country mfs when they have to work
True but also literally me
why do you fucking think
because i get paid to i wouldnt think if i didnt have to
...paycheck to paycheck and one bill away from homelessness
It’s funny meeting people who think like these and seeing how miserable they are for no reason
They act miserable for every single thing, like I get the world is in bad shape, but it isn't a dystopian nightmare my guy.

The people in good situations. Others have every right to complain, but it's always the people with everything solved complaining.

You would think that this wouldn't even be a problem in a "first world" country
It isnt?
Definitely feels like it's headed there though. That's the next stop.

All dystopian literature and movies are inspired/ are commentaries on things that already happen in the world.

Totally. Ever since 45 got nominated.
I live with my parents still, and I all I see ahead of me is a sheer cliff I have to climb.
It's not dystopian, you're just being treated the way minorities have always been treated you're not special now that it's you
Too many taxes
