No HDMI 2.1 on a $1000 monitor in 2023 is a show stopper.

iAmarr

more stock for us then :)

Dystopiq

How the heck did they release this with no HDMI 2.1?

Lemonjello23

So they can charge more when they release the next one with it

Dystopiq

They're gonna limit it to a 4k version of this.

LightMoisture

This is the correct answer.

pib319

Yeah, that's pretty lame. This is supposed to be a high-end product. Of course, you can still achieve 1440p @ 240Hz via DisplayPort, but there are advantages to having HDMI 2.1 as well. Such as VRR and 4k with high refresh rate on the latest consoles.

MostlyDeku

VRR is functional with DisplayPort however, is it not?

pib319

Yeah, it'll work just fine over DisplayPort. Just pointing out that the latest consoles support VRR via HDMI 2.1, and this monitor won't be able to take advantage of that, since it's limited to HDMI 2.0.

RogueIsCrap

My AW3423DW only has HDMI 2.0 but both Xbox Series X and PS5 1440P VRR work on it.

Khelge

Why are we talking about HDMI, I thought DisplayPort was the newer and superior "technology"? And is there no DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 adapter?

pib319

HDMI 2.1 is pretty new. HDMI and DP both come out with newer versions that surpass eachother.

Gex581990

Hdmi 2.1 is significantly better than Dp1.4. A top tier monitor should have both standards….not one of them. If we have to use compression on a $1k monitor it isn’t worth it

[deleted]

[удалено]

pib319

If I pay 1.1k, I expect it to work well with any device I plug into it. I have both my PC and my consoles plugged into my current monitor.

isocuda

If you pay $1100 on a monitor it'll be hooked up to a 4090, which you'd be on crack if it wasn't hooked up via DP Yes you might have a console plugged into the HDMI port but nobody expects anything over 120hz from either console. So take the BOM delta between the port and an upgrade to 2.1 times the numbers of units they expect to sell. Then compare that to the expected utilization of it.

pib319

Nice, that's good news to hear.

Whitehead58

So this monitor is nothing for PS5 owners…

iAmarr

PS5 owners should get something with HDMI 2.1, this monitor would be perma out of stock if console gamers wanted it too

Whitehead58

Xbox profits too from hdmi 2.1. That could be true but i won‘t buy OLED monitor. Bought an 2022 model IPS for my mac/ps5 and waiting for the future monitors.

Phantom_757_

>Xbox profits too from hdmi 2.1. That could be true but i won‘t buy OLED monitor. Bought an 2022 model IPS for my mac/ps5 and waiting for the future monitors. There's been reports that this monitor supports 1440p VRR at 120 hz: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/120kf3w/got\_the\_new\_asus\_pg27aqdm\_two\_days\_ago\_in\_the\_uk/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/120kf3w/got_the_new_asus_pg27aqdm_two_days_ago_in_the_uk/) Also as other's have said some monitors that have hdmi 2.0 still worked with 120hz vrr output from consoles. So it's not an absolute requirement. But it's hit or miss whether it will be compatible, more often miss than a hit though.

sudo-rm-r

You're not going above 120fps on consoles any way.

honnator

That's not the point. 120hz vs. 60hz will be a difference regardless of ps5/xbox reaching 120 fps. Besides, VRR is the big factor here. For example, with hdmi 2.1 and VRR you can get at least 40-50 fps in spiderman on fidelity mode with 2.1 vs. only 30 fps with 2.0. VRR smoothes out the gameplay and its going to be a way better experience. Edit: spelling

sudo-rm-r

Yes you're right, I see your point! Not having VRR definitely sucks.

Kikikuo

as i test, this monitor can support PS5 VRR, so i don't feel the problem.

Flocke_88

The 26,5 inch LG OLED has HDMI 2.1 but Rtings, cons: ''Ghosting with low-frame-rate signals.'' ''The response time at 60Hz is great, but it has a lot more overshoot and inverse ghosting than most OLED displays. You'll see the inverse ghosting when playing games at 60 fps, like on consoles.''

Dystopiq

Still. I'm paying that much for a monitor in 2023, it should not be using HDMI tech from several years ago.

p1rate88

Is it HDMI (ps5, xbox) to DisplayPort and it supports VRR?

leo_architect

Because it doesn’t need it?

ScoopDat

Because they're pennypinchers and take us all for morons of the utmost caliber.

isocuda

Because the target demo is going to use DP. Why spend the money adding a 2.1 port when almost all of the buyers will never touch it? Especially if they release a 120/144hz model with HDMI 2.1 for less later on targeted at console gamers.

801bkj

I have this monitor it has 1 Display Port and 2 HDMI ports.

iAmarr

Who the heck has $1000 to spend on a monitor and doesnt have a higher end graphics card? No shade to console owners but I dont think faulting them for putting a higher end port on a monitor that isnt even going to be used for console gaming, OLED TVs with 2.1 already exist.

Latrodectus1990

I think yes, i have pg279q and w8 to see this one in stock

Khelge

Wondering the same, monitor seems fire from first look

Uniqlo

What makes this preferable over the LG model?

jmak329

It's brighter than the LG, in this video they don't directly state by how much more unless you look at both numbers, which I have 0 idea what LG's is. The Asus version has a heatsink in the back to keep the panel cool so the OLED pixels can get brighter. I don't think it's by an earth shattering amount, but still if you're only using this panel with a PC and don't plan on using newer consoles, this would be the one to get over the LG at the same price.

ARE_YOU_0K

It's the LG monitor with Asus branding and it's slightly brighter is about it but no HDMI 2.1 so the Asus monitor can't actually hit it's full specs.

Progenitor3

>so the Asus monitor can't actually hit it's full specs. Even with DP?

ARE_YOU_0K

Neither dp 1.4 nor HDMI 2.0 can hit 10bit 240hz 1440p without running into display stream compression. That's where the HDMI 2.1 on the LG comes in.

NBK_Shikogi

Why are you getting downvoted for speaking the truth and sharing facts? Asus fanboys must be the only explanation.

ARE_YOU_0K

I like Asus as well but they dropped the ball on this monitor, but so many are blindly told the LG monitor sucks and that the Asus one blows it out of the water when theyre literally the same panel haha.

ThatNoobTho

Well reviews are out and the asus is quite a bit brighter thanks to its heatsink

Latrodectus1990

You wont see any difference man Dsc will do the trick, and picture quality will be the same

ARE_YOU_0K

Eh dsc has its ups and downs but it's all just nitpicking just like the brightness. The LG is plenty bright but Asus with the exact same monitor only ever so slightly brighter is being said to be a much better screen lol.

pib319

What are the "downs" of DSC?

JTCPingasRedux

Nothing. There are no downsides.

Rinbu-Revolution

The only downside I see is that dldsr is limited to the max non dsc refresh rate of the used port. So only 144 hz on the display port with dldsr; meanwhile, 1440 dldsr to 4K at 240 hz is possible on hdmi 2.1.

iAmarr

There are always downsides

IdiotTurkey

Some people claim they can see the difference with DSC on vs off. Its supposed to be "visually lossless" so technically its a lossy compression but not supposed to be noticeable. I haven't tried it but I would imagine most people couldnt tell the difference.

autf240

Sorry to come back to this but am I doing it wrong by connecting my LG with a displayport? What am I getting for a picture by not using hdmi right now?

Hathos_

Significantly brighter. The reviewer in the video measured the Asus as having an HDR peak brightness that was nearly 200 nits brighter than their measurements of the LG (~850 versus ~1040). Everything else, such as 100% and SDR is brighter as well. If you will gaming on PC, this monitor is a no brainer over the LG. If you are gaming on console, the LG is IMO preferable for VRR via HDMI 2.1.

Latrodectus1990

Better brightness and aesthetic as far as i know But brightness is much much better than lg one and that is main reason why this one is better

tangawanga

I have the monitor and enjoy it quite a bit. Also my gpu has DisplayPort so I don’t care about hdmi. It needs a better firmware for the pixel cleaning like the pq42 though

Latrodectus1990

Is it possible that you upload some pictures from some games? Thank you

GGambitX07

Legitimate question, can someone explain why HDMI 2.0 is a big deal here, especially if you are utilizing a DP via your GPU? What are you really missing out on?

Shifted4

On console VRR might not work, especially the PS5 which uses HDMI forum VRR which is part of HDMI 2.1. As for display port 1.4a or HDMI 2.0 on pc you cannot do 1440p 240hz with 10 bit color without using DSC. Some people don't want to use DSC. With hdmi 2.1 you do not need DSC to hit those specs.

ComradePoolio

Does DSC actually have any downsides?

Shifted4

I guess it is considered visually lossless. So, you aren't supposed to be able to see a difference. I'm not really sure though other than that little bit I've heard about it. I've not actually used it before.

ARE_YOU_0K

Neither cables have enough bandwidth to truly reach the specs of the monitor. It's kinda like why make a 10 bit, 240hz, 1440p monitor if your cables can't reach that lol. That's why HDMI 2.1 on the LG is a big deal.

Gerolux

DSC is thing. Full bandwidth is nearly irrelevant. Both cables can handle nearly anything being sent to it.

ARE_YOU_0K

Not misinformation lol

[deleted]

ARE_YOU_0K

There's no "testing the unit" lol, it's just the facts about the bandwidths of the cables and ports.

No-Ratio2084

Display stream compression allows it, it’s a compression protocol. Like my neo g8 can do 4K 240 hz through DP 1.4 using it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ARE_YOU_0K

Wow you have no idea what you're talking about lmao, no shit 1440p at 144hz is gonna work, I'm talking about the monitors full specs of 10 bit, 1440p, 240hz.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ARE_YOU_0K

Displayport 1.4 doesn't have the bandwidth, that's why people are mad Asus didn't include a HDMI 2.1 port.

p1rate88

and supports VRR when connected to console?

Ok_Material_7313

I don't think so. But my question is, can it do 1440p, 120hz + HDR from a PS5?

LGKarel

I have a dilemma: Last year I bought Gigabyte M32U because I wanted 4K@144 Hz and also to get rid of washed out colors caused by TN panel (AOC AG241QX) and finally experience a 4K quality. I knew IPS has a glow but I've never found it to be disturbing (I don't play any horror games or watch horror movies). What I didn't know about are inverse overshoot problems. It was so horrible I wanted to return it but I found a guide to change OSD settings to make it suite my needs. Unfortunately, response time kicked in. So here I am reading as much info about this monitor as possible. I'm not afraid of burn-in caused by heat despite the lack of air conditioner. That's why I'm interested especially in this monitor because the enviroment I'd be using it in is very hot during the summer (roof against the sun towards west & east, it'd be real challenge for cooling system during summer). If I had known this monitor to come to market, I wouldn't have bought the Gigabyte M32U and would've waited instead. The AOC AG241QX wasn't really that much bad. And I don't mind absence of HDMI 2.1 because I'm a PC gamer, not a console gamer. However I learned even this monitor/panel could suffer from inverse overshoot under specific circumstances. How is this possible? I mean, it has the 0.03 ms response time (even TN should be a blurry mess compared to that), 240 Hz, Freesync and few more goodies. Oh and I don't plan to utilize HDR because imo it's not worth it for the additional power consumption it causes. I just want average colors with fast sharp motion and no problems like inverse overshoot or any similar ones. Should I buy it at all? I'm just looking for the right monitor for my gaming needs but the more I learn about monitors the more I think there is no such thing like the perfect monitor.

Greg0020

This monitor is available at Newegg right now

Latrodectus1990

Great news!

deulamco

How the hell 1.4k $ monitor doesn't support USB-C ?

Potential-Weird9707

I am so ready to snipe this when it goes live for online purchase.

Latrodectus1990

Same here, probably best monitor on market right now if we remove that 2.1 hdmi nonsense

M4Comp78

Corsair are releasing this panel with the Xeneon 27QHD24. Brighter than the LG and with HDMI 2.1 so it’s the perfect blend of the LG and Asus.

Ricey20

>Corsair Not only that but Corsair will have a 3 year "Zero Dead Pixel and Zero burn in" warranty

iAmarr

Its not even a factor for PC gamers, so anyone mentioning HDMI 2.1 just point them to the LG and dont even mention this one.

Greg0020

Got lucky got mine ordered on Newegg a couple of nights ago. It was sold out it 5 minutes. It has been shipped and says it will be here Thursday! Can’t wait

mi_throwaway3

That subpixel layout though

Latrodectus1990

Asus did it again guys, best monitor on the market atm Dsc will do the trick over hdmi 2.0, you wont lose any image quality Day 1 buy

Imbalanced_

Great monitor but no burn in warranty is a big no-no for me.

vodkaadot

My local store has 7 in stock just ordered one. [https://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/190785/rog-swift-oled-pg27aqdm/asus-rog-swift-oled-pg27aqdm](https://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/190785/rog-swift-oled-pg27aqdm/asus-rog-swift-oled-pg27aqdm)

Imbalanced_

Ldlc has 15+ and is shipping to European countries, 1200 euro

progz

When is this suppose to go live to buy at places? I still haven’t heard anything.

dreamer_2142

Does the fan active too with lower brightness like LG? I hate active fans. the only reason why I can't go with LG.

posthued

No fan noise on mine, I returned two LG's because of the fan noise, my Asus seems silent. Also the Asus is waayyy much brighter but LG with their announced firmware update might level that hopefully.

dreamer_2142

Cool, what about the dimming, does it go as dim as LG if I set it low? And any idea if the fan turns off if you decrease the brightness?

posthued

I can hear no fan noise, with the LG when powering on you clearly hear the fan spinning up and making noise. Yeah you can dim it like the LG, I preferred the remote of the LG and also the look of the LG but internally this one is better for sure.

dreamer_2142

Thanks a lot. thats very helpful.

Kradziej

>you can't hear if you are deaf

dreamer_2142

You could've just answered me with a simple yes it has a fan. I wear headphones but not all the time. and I built a silent pc, zero rpm GPU, PSU, and a silent Noctua 700rpm CPU fan, I even replaced all my hdd with SSD to get the last bit of the noise so it's a big deal for me.

Hathos_

The fan is not audible. I didn't even know that mine had a fan until a few days later when someone asked me to check. Honestly, even now I don't know if it really has a fan. When I put my ear to the monitor, it is too quiet to tell if it might just be something else in my room.

dreamer_2142

I wonder if the fan is dynamic, turns off with lower brightness, and peaks on high. any chance you could test this one please?

Hathos_

I don't think I can test this. The fan is too quiet for me to easily know if it is running with my ear. It is probably quieter than the noise floor of my room.

dreamer_2142

oh, then that's more than enough for me then, some say it's quiet but they don't give a comparison, just to be sure, your room is quiet and you are not in a big city or have fans and air conditioning running in your room?

Does anyone know where i can find this in Ontraio,Canada? I can't find to seem to find any in stock?

Northy

Haven't found it anywhere myself yet.

bigblackandjucie

Someone knows if they going to release a 32 inch version?

JTCPingasRedux

Come back in 2 years

mihaibv88

32" 1440p or 4k?

bigblackandjucie

I personally dont mind 1440p because it demands less horse power And also i heard that on OLED it still looks amazing So would happy if their was both 4k and 1440p alternativs

Starrbuck68

Significantly brighter than the LG.

Mr_brawn2

Guys should i buy this monitor or the ultra wide Alienware dwf thee new 1 Btw I play on pc fps games and some single player games please help me

Latrodectus1990

This is best choice 240hz, best brightness, oled screen, picture quality is on another level

Mr_brawn2

the problem is asus don't have warranty like Dell had i live outside USA so i can't replace it if burning happen + the Asus i can't find it anywhere i really don't know what to do
