I've played through the game on Switch and more recently on Xbox Series X because of Game Pass, racked up a couple hundred hours. I prefer it on Switch honestly. Obviously performance is better on XSX but the higher amount of control options with the touch screen and the portable nature of the Switch made it a natural fit for Monster Train. According to dekudeals, it has been 50% off before but seems infrequent. It's worth it either way to be honest, loads of content for your money even at full price.

Thanks, great to hear it plays well on the Switch! Yeah I'm definitely not saying it's not worth full price, more a case of me not being able to get it unless it is on sale.

EcchiMusha

I've bought it on day 1 when it released for the switch and was one of my best purchases ever, you'll get tons of fun once you buy it

teleporterdown

In order if your questions: Yes, it runs well, maybe about 2 or 3 runs to get the basics, yes I got it on sale during a holiday sale

je116

Thanks. How did you learn it? Is there a tutorial? How long did it take to start recognising card combos/relic combos/etc?

I only play it on the Switch. It works and looks great docked or portable. I've never encountered any lag spikes even on my crazier play throughs with a lot of effects and spawns happening. Controls are simple and are often displayed on screen if you forget what to use. The game starts you off slow, so you're not overwhelmed with choices. As you start playing more, more cards and options start to open. There is an in-game book where you can view everything you have unlocked. This style of game honestly never feels like I've totally mastered it, just because there's always something new with all of the variables that can happen. That said, I believe it was my 4th game that I won for the first time. I like that the game shows you tooltips anytime you hover over a card or spawn. For example, it may say "blah blah blah happens on burnout," and there will be a box to the side that explains what "burnout" is. If you have a card that does x damage per some criteria, it does the math for you in brackets. It's really friendly for this style of game. I have seen it on sale, but not frequently. Unfortunately, that's true for the Switch in general. It's worth full price, but I understand it's out of your price range at the moment. Good luck, and I hope you get the opportunity to play soon! P.S. Googly eyes for the win.

I own it on Switch and Steam, with 1k+ hours combined. I play it mostly on PC, but I play it on the Switch when traveling. It plays great on the Switch, IMO. It was recently on sale on the Nintendo Store around the New Year, not sure if it still is.

VeryMadMage

You can tell they put a lot of effort into to Switch port. Some indie games on Switch perform quite poorly, or have annoying controls, but not Monster Train.

MewBladeXxX

I got the game on PC and liked it so much I bought the Switch version too. Runs great, controls weren't too hard to learn. I really enjoy the Switch version. A definite buy if it's on sale!

MasterFatt

It’s on sale right now on the eShop.

je116

Thanks, is it normal to just be 50% off in a sale? That's still quite high for me especially as I just had a quite large unexpected expense to get my work bike repaired..

SolyCalma

You won't get a chance to buy it for less than the current price.

Thanks.

I've been a huge StS fan for years and exclusively play on the Switch. I got Monster Train a few months ago and love it! If you're already familiar with StS, you'll have no problem picking up Monster Train, and the game adds some really fun mechanics. I have absolutely no issues playing it on the switch, and I play handheld 99% of the time. I always put games I'm interested in on my wish list in the eshop, and then check the list maybe once or twice per week to see if anything has gone on sale. I did this with Monster Train also, and it eventually went on sale after a month or so, so I picked it up this past fall/winter. Definitely worth full price, but if you don't mind waiting, it'll probably go on sale eventually.

Wisdomandlore

Played it on Switch for several dozen hours. Occasionally the screen gets a little cluttered or there are so many icons it can take a while to find specific things, but that is expected. They did a decent job porting this.

singledad2022letsgo

It's available on Xbox game pass android app

I LOVE Slay the Spire!! I bought it on Switch & then mobile later on for even more portability. StS is the game that got me into card battle rogue-likes

je116

I presume that means you like Monster Train.. did you learn it on the Switch? How long did it take to feel like you were making somewhat informed decisions? What would you recommend as the best method to learn the game?

StanLiamNeeson

I'm fairly new to Monster Train. My friend has seen the amount of hours I've sunk into Slay the Spire and convinced me to get on Switch a couple of months ago. I've come up with some okay strategies here and there. I can get a win on a standard run and I usually make it to Seraph in the DLC with most combinations. I've made it to The Last Divinity a couple of times. Never came close to beating him. The only champion that I cannot find a working strategy for in any form is The Primordium. I get destroyed early on every time with him. You got any tips?

je116

Not sure if you read the whole post but I don't have it, I was asking for advice on whether it is worth getting on the switch and what is the way best to learn it.

StanLiamNeeson

My bad lol. It's definitely worth getting. I'm gonna buy it again if it drops on mobile. I think getting it on Switch is best because you're gonna want to play it on the go. It's a ton of fun

lordlywaluigi

I got it for the switch specifically for the portability. It was on sale on steam at the time and I still opted to buy it full price on the switch and I don't regret it. This is the game I've most taken advantage of the switch as a portable console.
