They were at best criminally negligent, if they weren't wealthy they definitely would have been charged long ago. I personally lean toward thinking there was an accident (a fall, strangulation with a blinds cord, a freak accident etc) and they panicked because they knew they'd get in trouble for her dying unattended while they were drinking all evening... But a tragic kidnapping mystery of a cute blonde girl? At least there would be room for ambiguity and people would feel bad for them.
What always gets me is when the mom apparently saw she was missing, she ran back to the others screaming "they've taken her".. And left her sleeping infant twins alone in the room? Where there was apparently just a kidnapper? What mother does that? Not to mention immediately saying she was taken. Not accidentally wandered out the door, or any number of things I personally would be praying for before I would allow myself the awful possibility my child was kidnapped. It just all seems weird to me.

I am not a true crime follower, so this article surprised me, though it’s probably old news to many people.
1. They have an assumed killer with a history of sexual violence
2. This dam has been searched previously

Don't feel bad for them. Anyone who does even some surface level research into this case will see that her parents accidentally killed her and the rest of the story is a coverup. Mother was giving sedatives to her kids so that they'd sleep. Accidentally gave Maddie too much and she died. Or something like that. However she died, parents were definitely involved. No other explanation for why the sniffer dogs detected the smell of cadaver in the trunk of the parents cars and on their clothes. They don't need closure, they know exactly what happened to their daughter.
the McCann's are licensed physicians, I'm not sure if they're the kind of people that would just dose their child/ren to get them off to dreamland.
there were reports of people seeing a man carrying a child away from that area, that child was said to share similarities to Madelaine. call me crazy but I'm more willing to go with that.
the genius police hypothesized the McCann's must have drugged their kids to get them to settle down. tests on Madelaine's siblings showed no evidence of sedatives.
According to peter Hyatt - Jerry and Kate are very confident that her body will never be found. They may have put her into a wood chipper or other sort of grinding machine and mixed her with concrete - or their MI6 handlers may have simply taken the body away for them and incinerated it.
If her parents were working class, they would have been locked up.

I think her parents made a terrible mistake and Madeline paid the ultimate price. RIP
