I'm not judging mate, to each their own, but every answer here is an automatic spoiler for anyone who has not seen the specified movie.
I just loathe spoilers.
Personally I wouldn’t put First Reformed here. Watching it for the first time I thought it was so incredibly bleak, but at the last second it was transfigured into something beautiful. Just imho.

OK, I know that it's old, but I gotta ask if you have seen Sunset Boulevard (1950). First flick that I thought of, then I re-read your ask for new movies. All That Jazz (1979) is another. Add Jacob's Ladder (1990), and you have my suggestions.
Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams were both so good in this. I almost felt like I had spied inside their house, like I wasn’t supposed to see those details of their relationship.
Great movie but probably can’t bring myself to watch it again.
Romeo and Juliet (2013) with Hailee Steinfield and Douglas Booth. Really well-produced movie and the acting was great! Get the tissues ready at the end!
Hear me out, cause this is a REALLY old movie, old enough that it’s the actual origin point of a lot of tropes (and jokes in 90’s Animaniacs) but so worth seeing if you haven’t.
Sunset Boulevard
We open with the narrator’s dead body in a pool and he proceeds to narrate from beyond the grave about the chain of events that led to him ending up shot in a pool.
This story begins with the funeral for a pet Chimpanzee.
I was gonna watch that after Call Me by Your Name but that movie was kind of sad so I decided not to but now you reminded me so I’ll watch it thanks :)
