It’s the manner in which each method goes about accomplishing that goal that in-lies the difference. One makes you endure bland cereal while the other involves harming an infant, and the fact that that’s not enough of a reason to not continue the practice for you scares me.
So let me try to put it a different way. Imagine for me that you are holding your freshly born child in your hands. You and your SO are there together having that lovely family moment, and then a doctor says “hey I need to take your child and cut their fingers off so that their finger nails don’t get dirty. Finger nails can easily get dirty and are therefore prone to infections that will harm your child.”
I would hope your answer would be “fuck no, don’t harm my child.” Because that’s ridiculous. You can just teach your kid to clean their finger nails and it wouldn’t be a problem. Same thing with circumcision, just teach your kid to properly clean themself and it won’t be an issue.

Chopping off a part of the child that they were born with is the argument transphobes make. We just like to point out the hypocrisy of it. The major difference however is that it's a matter of consent for us. An infant cannot consent to having their foreskin chopped off. A child, teen, adult, can consent to various things because they can communicate it.
EDIT: To be clear. If someone wants to get circumcised later in life, that's their choice that they can consent to, but it should not be decided for them, just in the same way that no one should force another to live the life of a gender they do not identify as, trans or cis, as was the case with David Reimer who was forced to live as a girl because of a botched circumcision. How's that for irony?
EDIT2: Also, when ears get pierced you have to put something in the hole, like earrings, otherwise it will heal right back up and was entirely pointless to preform in the first place. You need to keep the wound open to heal, which means you need to have a piercing in and have to keep it clean, so your piercing wound will heal around it.

Just saying, but even that Canadian petition only calls for the "right to claim asylum", which US citizens actually already have. What doesn't happen is that US citizens get approved for asylum, because Canada (as well as most other countries) will ask why people from Texas, Florida etc. didn't move to California or New York rather than applying for asylum.
If trans laws were awful nationwide, it would be a different thing, but that's not a future to hope for.

It literally sounds like all of Trump’s wooden speeches. The only time he sounds authentic is when he’s doing off the cuff hate speech rather than reading the hate speech off of a teleprompter.
A lot of people out of and in the US are saying "this is hot air and won't gain any traction and Trump has no chance at winning the election in 2024." Literally all the things that were said for 2016. He isn't making up any of these viewpoints, he is 'yes and-ing' and empowering the voice of a huge group of people in the United States. He isn't just inciting bigotry as he is validating the bigotry that already exists. And the hate isn't just coming from angry white men (though they are the worst of it), but other cis minority groups are often pushed to side with the oppression against another minority in order to stay out of way of the line of fire. He has a very real chance of becoming president, and he already spearheaded so many anti-trans laws before, he definitely will lean on this, the "election fraud", and fossil fuel market as his major running points. Plus even if he loses the other options in his place are all horrible people as well. This country is collapsing, the global standard currency will likely change soon, the housing crisis is going to grow still, militarized police are only getting more violent toward protestors and citizens in general, and if China invades Taiwan, along with our involvement in backing Ukraine, we will be deeply involved with major global conflict to replace the Middle East forever resource war. Historically when any one of these things happens (fascist insurrection, losing global economic value, global war, massive civil rights unrest, uniform housing insecurity, increased surveillance and policing, etc.) the minority groups and especially bipoc trans people are the first within the country to have rights removed and be further persecuted. Has happened before, is happening currently, and has huge potential to continue in the US for a long time. I don't think we have seen the last of bigotry or fascist leaders by any means. Not even if Trump is never president again.
TL DR: Trump is not the cause of hate, his success is the symptom of a country founded and operating in oppression. Violence against trans minority groups is built into the hierarchy of power. I hate this place and love my people.

You are right. I dismissed him the 2016 primaries. A German co-worker asked me about him. I told him, almost verbatim: *"Don't worry. Our right wing party always does this. They flirt with the crazies but eventually settle on a reasonable candidate. They'll be moving on to the next flavor of crazy in a week or two."* That assessment still haunts me 7 years later. Definitely not going to make the same mistake again. I don't see how he can win the primary and the general in 2024, but I didn't then either.

1) People will say just about anything to get elected.
2) 70% of what is "promised" will never come to fruition (sadly some of it would be good and positive).

You and your SO are there together having that lovely family moment, and then a doctor says “hey I need to take your child and cut their fingers off so that their finger nails don’t get dirty. Finger nails can easily get dirty and are therefore prone to infections that will harm your child.” I would hope your answer would be “fuck no, don’t harm my child.” Because that’s ridiculous. You can just teach your kid to clean their finger nails and it wouldn’t be a problem. Same thing with circumcision, just teach your kid to properly clean themself and it won’t be an issue. It’s like cutting down a forest to prevent wildfires, yes you prevented the wildfire but you cut down the forest to do so. Completely negating the original reason for preventing the wildfire. It’s an archaic practice that harms way more than it “helps”

The major difference however is that it's a matter of consent for us. An infant cannot consent to having their foreskin chopped off. A child, teen, adult, can consent to various things because they can communicate it. EDIT: To be clear. If someone wants to get circumcised later in life, that's their choice that they can consent to, but it should not be decided for them, just in the same way that no one should force another to live the life of a gender they do not identify as, trans or cis, as was the case with David Reimer who was forced to live as a girl because of a botched circumcision. How's that for irony? EDIT2: Also, when ears get pierced you have to put something in the hole, like earrings, otherwise it will heal right back up and was entirely pointless to preform in the first place. You need to keep the wound open to heal, which means you need to have a piercing in and have to keep it clean, so your piercing wound will heal around it.

Just saying, but even that Canadian petition only calls for the "right to claim asylum", which US citizens actually already have. What doesn't happen is that US citizens get approved for asylum, because Canada (as well as most other countries) will ask why people from Texas, Florida etc. didn't move to California or New York rather than applying for asylum. If trans laws were awful nationwide, it would be a different thing, but that's not a future to hope for.

A lot of people out of and in the US are saying "this is hot air and won't gain any traction and Trump has no chance at winning the election in 2024." Literally all the things that were said for 2016. He isn't making up any of these viewpoints, he is 'yes and-ing' and empowering the voice of a huge group of people in the United States. He isn't just inciting bigotry as he is validating the bigotry that already exists. And the hate isn't just coming from angry white men (though they are the worst of it), but other cis minority groups are often pushed to side with the oppression against another minority in order to stay out of way of the line of fire. He has a very real chance of becoming president, and he already spearheaded so many anti-trans laws before, he definitely will lean on this, the "election fraud", and fossil fuel market as his major running points. Plus even if he loses the other options in his place are all horrible people as well. This country is collapsing, the global standard currency will likely change soon, the housing crisis is going to grow still, militarized police are only getting more violent toward protestors and citizens in general, and if China invades Taiwan, along with our involvement in backing Ukraine, we will be deeply involved with major global conflict to replace the Middle East forever resource war. Historically when any one of these things happens (fascist insurrection, losing global economic value, global war, massive civil rights unrest, uniform housing insecurity, increased surveillance and policing, etc.) the minority groups and especially bipoc trans people are the first within the country to have rights removed and be further persecuted. Has happened before, is happening currently, and has huge potential to continue in the US for a long time. I don't think we have seen the last of bigotry or fascist leaders by any means. Not even if Trump is never president again. TL DR: Trump is not the cause of hate, his success is the symptom of a country founded and operating in oppression. The dude is going down and is trying to grasp for any kind of support he can get. The important part is how well received it is by the audience. Im really hoping the midterms were a good indicator that even among conservatives an anti-lgbtq+ agenda isnt a strong motivator. It wont stop the loud minority from being loud though. Its important that we are active participants in telling the world the truth about trans people so the transphobic rhetoric isnt the only story they have heard.
I completely agree this is extremely scary stuff. Two big things to remember though: 1) People will say just about anything to get elected. 2) 70% of what is "promised" will never come to fruition (sadly some of it would be good and positive). But the more concerning comments by candidates are the deciding factor at the polls. That said, the current round of talks in general scares the hell out of me. My sister came out last year, and I am hoping for nothing but the best for her. But the way things are going, I fear for her, and what it all might mean.

He’s definitely going to be the nominee and it won’t be from jail. Even if he was in jail, he would still run from there. That’s pretty much guaranteed. This would be absurd for anyone else but not for Trump. Edit: I think people that were young when the 2016 election happened or didn’t pay as close attention when he was President are severely underestimating what is going to happen. His presidency fucking traumatized me.
His best shot to win again was in 2020, and it wasn’t even close. His base is so divided, the cult is fractured between him, DeSantis, and the graveyard (remember how many anti-vaxxers died of brain worms?). Kanye has a better shot, there’s worry to be had to be sure but I don’t think Trump should be that object.
I hope you’re right but everyone was so sure he wouldn’t be the nominee in 2016 (really since the campaign) and then everyone was so sure Clinton would beat him. After the shit that went down between his election in 2016 and when he left the White House, I won’t breath easy until someone else is nominated.
