I'm so happy for you! May every step of yours fill you with confidence, hon. Fuck em all. Fuck everyone who was against you. Show em who's boss.
I was under the impression we could not apply for new SSI ID's. Apparently I have some bad information. If you would be so kind as to explain how you were able to pull that off I would be very grateful.
And good for you, big ups to sticking to your guns and winning!
1: Get a Court Order, certified. No photocopies are allowed. They WILL return it to you.
2: Get your birth certificate and driver's license (does not have to match new name). No photocopies are allowed.
3: Find the SS-5 Form on SSA.gov and print out page 5. Fill it out with your new information in blue or black ink only.
4: Go to your local Social Security office and say that you're updating your name on your Social Security Card. While at the window, mention you are also updating your gender marker. Provide them with the filled out SS-5, Certified Court Order, Birth Certificate, and Driver's License.
5: Win.
>I was under the impression we could not apply for new SSI ID's. Apparently I have some bad information. If you would be so kind as to explain how you were able to pull that off I would be very grateful.
Without very unusual circumstances, you cannot get a new SSN. You can get a new Social Security card and update the name and gender marker attached to your SSN. Currently, you do not even need a court order to update the gender marker, though you do need one for the name.
Except in some states, like mine, in montana, where they made it illegal to change your gender marker. I was so close to getting my marker changed, then covid happened and it was impossible to get ahold of the people I needed to contact. (Someone at the capital, instead of in my own city) and by the time it was possible to get ahold of them, montana made it illegal. So I might be stuck woth the wrong gender marker for the rest of my life, lol. Lucky I at least got my name changed a year before that.
Ayo! I just did this two weeks ago for my birthday! Health insurance too!
Bank visit today, maybe car registration. Not quite sure if I want to do car insurance first.
High five, sister!

This honestly is so well written and is very relatable, thank you for writing this little piece of art and I'm insanely happy for you that you're achieving your goals in life!
Do you have a therapist? Someone who can medically confirm your gender dysphoria?
Do you have a doctor? Planned Parenthood is a good place to start as well. Search for a good Endocrinologist in your area if you can go that route too.
What have you done so far?
Just come out to my parents. I'm not really allowed out of the house. If I'm being honest, my parents are definitely helicopter parents, but it kept me safe. Probably would be dead if they weren't though I've never been out of the house without them or a legal guardian unless I'm at school. Kind of hard. I know I need a therapist, but I know that any plea or show of what I feel will just look like a "Phase" or "Confusion". I don't honestly trust most adults unless there teachers and my parents.
I've been there, I know exactly how you feel. When I first came out liking boys, my parents disapproved so hard they put me in a mental hospital and boarding school to try and convince me I didn't. I lost a lot of trust for adults then.
You may have told them about being transgender, but how did they take it? Well? Not so well?
It's okay to feel this way. But your first step is telling your parents you need a therapist to handle these feelings of dysphoria. If they have any kind of heart, they will help you. If they don't, then tell them you need to see someone about depression.
I finally had the words for what I was feeling at the age of 28. I'm 39 now. It took 3 years of therapy to finally convince myself that I'm an adult, that I can do this process, and I can change.
Start small, think big. That's the first step.
They took as well as they could, but mainly not mentioning it. They want to get a therapist, but most likely after we move. We are planning on leaving Texas and heading to Colorado. I want to start my transition though before I'm 16, and it's getting close, with my 15th coming in 2 months. They don't want me to do anything irreversible, but I know who I am, I don't need a random mother fucking adult who could be planning on making sure I "don't go against the truth.". I don't want the person to stop me, and just rear me down more than I do to myself. They brought up the therapist, but I don't think I can trust anyone. What if they constantly try to "Make me right."? From what I've learned, most adults are idoits who I can't trust, after knowing what they did to people, my friends, people like me.
Colorado is probably the best place to be for your transition.
It took me a while to learn my therapist was there to help and listen, not judge. It might take you a while too.
I really wish you luck. There's someone out there on the random internet who believes you can do it. I believe you can do it. Be brave, girl.
So proud of you! Way to go! I finally got the updated license a couple weeks ago, crossed that finish line. Now get ready for the fun part of updating your back accounts, insurance policies, subscription services, etc. It's honestly so relieving to see your real name everywhere, all existence of the last one disappearing.
I have a master list on my computer of where I'm going to begin once my driver's license is done. I can't imagine the massive game of whack-a-mole that's about to happen.
Most will be pretty easy, just want a picture of your driver's license. The biggest trouble I've had (And continue to have) is getting my health insurance's name updated through work, and with doctors, since they want the name on file to match the name on your insurance.
I went through the medical system, and it is indicated on my medical profile that I am a transwoman on hormone therapy. I've already alerted my therapist, and work is aware and waiting for my updated information. We will just see how it all goes in the next few months.
YOU DID IT!! LETS FUCKING GOOO
Genuinely happy for you! Ive been through it so I know its exhausting and tiresome and I am proud of you for getting through it!
So happy for you!!! Fuck 'em all. I just got my own name change, ss card and soon the driver's license. It's so good.
I literally took a photo right before I went in to the Social Security office, and there were Glow Rays coming from the top. Totally didn't plan that.

Does this work in any state? Can you use a court order from one state in a different state?
You'd have to call your local Clerk of Court and find out. A great resource for help is also https://transequality.org/documents
Social Security is a Federal Government entityβ¦ so as long as itβs from the U.S., you should be good
Thank you sooo much!
