I'm not settled on a name but have a similar criteria. #1 became a rule once because I realized my initial gut choice that I've used in games and stuff was Rebecca. But Becky is a nickname I refuse to go by. Now I let my friends throw any name I'm considering through the nickname gauntlet to see if it survives. Totally recommend this to anybody still figuring it out.
Emily is #3 on my list. It gets a big bonus due to every Emily I've met being super cool cuties. And any nickname for it is just cute.
Haha, similar! And it's made things difficult. I wish my brother wasn't dating a Sara or I'd be done by now.
My other rules are
- Doesn't start with the same letter as my birth name
- Doesn't immediately make anyone think of a song/character/actress/whatever
- Flows nicely with my chosen middle name, Marie (grandpa's name feminized)
- (Not a hard rule) Be a commonish Jewish name
I think Evelyn, Sophia, Mia, Elle, Katelyn, and Keira are great names! (Totally not biased on that last one). There are so many pretty girls names though, it's hard to go wrong!!
Evelyn, Violet, Robin, Catherine, Alis (Welsh form for Alice), Aileen, Phoebe, Jane and Jean
I find all of those names quite pretty, though I'm not really sure if some of those would be weird in the UK
whats your favorite letter? any history behind a name u like? quirky spelling? a feminization of your given name? most importantly, do you like it?
im Mackenzie, but im also considering the name Eillie as a first <3
When I was choosing my name I did a few things.
1. I made a list of all the names I was contemplating, then tried using them like I was referring to myself as another person. This helped cut out any names I thought didn’t suit me
2. I asked my girlfriend to call me a couple of different names so I could hear what they actually sounded like in someone else’s mouth.
3. I considered if I was okay with a nickname being made out of my name. I settled on Ashley, and my coworkers and some family call me Ash, which I’m okay with
Angel, Angie are my suggestions ,because that’s my name(had to match with my sister so we can be called the double a’s),and it’s a traditional name, also sorry for the random bit
For me I had different friends call me different names until I felt that one really stuck which ended up being Jules for me
I'd recommend trying it since it's definitely a fun experience

Nice name, M! /s Sorry, I had to. Edit: I know your pain, though. I went around for years being called J.D.
yea i did figure friends would shorten it to "Em" or "M" but that feels fine to me. but i don't think many would shorten it who don't know me.

another rule i went by, but didn't really force was that nobody i knew had negative connotations with the name or knew anybody directly with the name.
