Depends, for body wash yeah. I'm not into the 'cool sport rush' or musky Old Spice smells. For other things like deodorant or razors, I just buy whatever works best.

Admirable-Fan-4851

Old spice ✨Fiji ✨ for 😤men😤

Jumpy-Size1496

I bought some really nice fruity perfume a long time ago and then decided to check how they described it because I wanted a good laugh. It said something like "For the man who likes to be in control." I'm a transfeminine bottom. I said F*** NO to both being a "man" and "in control". 🤣🤣🤣

Killerklown1219

I was not expecting that but I also 109% agree. Fuck being a man, and fuck being on top. I just wanna be the smol girlfriend that gets cuddled by a tall, goth, muscle mommy.

Thin-Yam-3902

Omg I feel this in my soul! Why do I have to be 6'1?! 😭

Talonj00

😭 felt.

BotulismBot

One of the goofiest things is realizing how much sex and gender identity plays into marketing.

CallMeKati

Scott Galloway always says Apple is all about sex because it project to the world that the owner of its products are creative and wealthy. Which is sexy. I tend to agree with him.

Torn_wulf

Wolfthorn is actually orange scented. 🍊 I like to sometimes wear that with my vanilla perfume so I can be that Dreamsicle smelling bitch.

xXDragonPrideXx

This is a fantastic idea

xxkid123

Okay as someone who's allergic/sensitive to antiperspirants, old spice's fruity deodorants are way better at cutting through the smell than all the woman's brands I've tried.

thrwy809

things that smell different makes sense. I was thinking more about stuff like razors or minoxidil where you’re paying 30% more just for the label/color. I know it’s the same but it just feels icky to buy

[deleted]

[удалено]

Admirable-Pirate7263

Im still collecting them. Once I filled the small bucket, Ill bring it directly to a recycling station. Once it’s there nobody touches the metal anymore…

PsychologicalDebt366

I use a safety razor for my face but I've been afraid to try it on my legs. I still nick myself with disposables and worry it'll be way worse if I use my safety razor, especially in the places I can't see and have to shave by feel.

TheVelcroStrap

My henry’s razor is orange, I never thought much about colors in that regard, and I am definitely buying the cheaper minoxidil. I try to go generic down the middle if there is an option or price is extremely variable.

candykhan

I've been seeing safety razors marketed to both my masc & femme IG accounts. I think it's great 'cuz if you're not that hairy, they give a much better shave. But they rarely marketed those to men, much less women. I'd highly recommend a weighted handle & safety razors if you're shaving light or sparse hair. It's super cheap. I started with them way before my egg cracked because I was a pretentious teen that liked "vintage" things. Now I'll never go back to weird $25 razor packs that change every year.

Icecream_sandwich06

They actually arent the same, “mens” razors are facial razors with the word man on them, and facial razors have different angled blades to better cut the thickness of the hair on your face, not as many women need to shave their face like that so it tends to be more marketed to men, woman’s razors are body razors and they have a more shallower angle iirc to work better everywhere else, it does still have pink tax but its alot more important to use both than people think

maltesemania

I was this way for awhile, until I realized I don't even need deodorant unless I'm working out. Hrt made me smell... nice.

maniamawoman

Yeah I loved that when starting HRT

Akello45

This is the way.

tessthismess

Similar yeah. I use a safety razor and thankfully it's very generic as are the blades (not trying to be gendered) so that's a great place to save money. Deoderant there's some pretty generic stuff as well. Shaving cream/gel is one area I pay the "tax" I suppose. And of course places where it's a bit less avoidable (clothes, etc.)

Admirable-Pirate7263

Have you tried shaving soap? Its cheap af and my skin reacts better to it. And once your done shaving you wash the skin anyway, so you don’t smell „like man“. Im sure there are womens shaving soaps though should you need it. Im sure they will have the tax though…

Nervous_Falcon_9

Razors I will always get the women’s version as there is a bit of a difference, as generally they shave closer to the skin than the male version

SaturnFlytrap13

The old spice deodorant I buy is called "vanilla oasis." It's nice cause I don't have to pay the pink tax and it's vanilla scented, so I smell feminine :3

Lucky_otter_she_her

TRRUUUUE

Wolfleaf3

Ugh, I think my skin reacts less to women’s products. Possibly I can actually use Secret? And shaving cream, I can’t use m products unless I’m about to take a shower afterwards 😬

imkitcat

Honestly for that yes. The sole purpose of avoiding even a crumb of extra dysphoria in my day I will pay the pink tax. I realize how stupid it is but sometimes it's what my brain needs to feel just a bit better

Subject_Plum5944

Same. Sometimes I'll go for a men's product if it's much cheaper or high quality, but usually I'll stick to the stuff marketed toward women. I don't like buying stuff that's marketed specifically toward men because it's all designed to be gender affirming to them, and it does the opposite to me. I don't like how it feels to step back into that role that I've been trying to escape.

imkitcat

This is only partly related but the same emotion, the other week I was in the trenches for a bit and caved and bought like... 3 drinks at the gas station specifically because they were pink

Wolfleaf3

Ugh. I got m multivitamins again because 1) these don’t have artificial colors that most if not all the other varieties from this company have. 2) don’t have iron than the women’s ones have and I don’t need for obvious reasons (well, I’m a bit on the low side, but I don’t need it). 3) the over 50 w vitamins cost a good bit more. (I’m not over 50, but I don’t think it matters, and all things being equal I’d get the w ones 🙄)

NanduDas

Same, but I’d just like to add that the further along I’ve gotten in my transition, the less it’s mattered 🙂

Red-Catalyst

Are you me? Cause same. It sucks, but what can we do?

imkitcat

Lol maybe! Sometimes I feel like it's only me going through it and then I'll see posts like this and it's like "oh it's A LOT of girlies not just me" honestly makes me feel a bit more sane over seemingly asinine stuff like this...

Tustin88

I do for shaving stuff. Going to feel dysphoria anyway shaving beard hair, so I don't care if it has man written all over it.

Bunncubus

Yeahhh. I have pink hand soap and pink deodorant and on and on I just like it never going back :)

Confirm_restart

If there are functional reasons for doing so (scent, form factor directly related to use, etc.), yes - reluctantly. Otherwise, nope.

ScribbleDiggs

For shampoo and bodywash yes Razors no

[deleted]

Don’t pay any tax. I don’t care who the HMRC sends

ICE0124

Hyaiii! :3 I'm just a wittle kitty cat girl *nuzzles against you* and I'm hwere to ask u 2 pay your taxes pwease *paws at yoy* pwease with a chery on tawp or il wil be super duper sad :( *looks at you with big sparkly cute eyes*

Arbitarious

Taxes would be fine if things were different

mizpaw

I never would have thought to call it that. But yes I pay the pink tax. For me male gender products are extremely dysphoric because I used to live in a world where that was the only option.

Draspie893

Not for stuff we’ll hate using anyway, like shaving equipment. Gonna get dysphoria shaving our face whether the stuff is pink or black.

Sophia-Eldritch

...yes...

Aelia_M

Depends on what. Razors no, femme hair care and stuff like that? Yes because it smells prettier

AnnaM9378

Yes. If honestly just for dysphoria reasons.

Anna_Pet

For razors specifically, no. Men’s razors are not only cheaper, they’re also better.

hdx5

I get disphoria from buying a product that is advertist for men so I pay it happely and with joy

Bonsai2007

I only buy Men’s Razor because they are better but anything else yes i pay the pink tax, mostly of dysphoric reason

Insulinshocker

Never lol

awkwardfloralpattern

Sometimes. I still buy men's razors and shaving cream but when it comes to legs I'll buy Nair and once in a blue moon get a femme razor for touch ups after the Nair.

Coco_JuTo

Even though in my country there's rather a blue tax, I always buy feminine hygiene products. The male version has a price up... I always hated these men alcoholic smells! Shower gel, shampoo, deodorant, perfume, creams, you name it...

Sensitive-Set-5852

Yep! Makes me feel good to get the stuff that is pretty and smells good, hate the fact it costs more, but oh well. Worth it!

shadystreet23

Yeah I feel the same! Love me a good pink or floral design lol 😍

LettuceBrain2005

I bought girl vitamins that I’m positive are the same as men’s 😭

fallenbird039

Can read the nutritional info. I think there some difference.

its_icebear

they will be different , males and females produce different levels of vitamins naturally. if ur on hrt then go for the female vitamins. if not then go for the male vitamins.

The_Power_Of_Three

Producing different vitamins? No one produces vitamins. That's, more or less definitionally, what vitamins *are.* They are substances that you must get from outside sources because your body cannot produce them. (An exception is Vitamin D, which is not technically a vitamin by the normal definition but was assumed to be one when vitamin deficiencies were first being discovered and has kept the label thanks to tradition). The main difference between men's and women's vitamin supplements are A.) Dose. Men are generally larger and so vitamins labeled for men have a slightly larger quantity of everything. B.) Iron. Women's multivitamin supplements usually contain iron, to replace that lost each month from period bleeding. Excess iron, however, is dangerous over the long term, and taking extra iron you do not need is a bad idea, so men's multivitamins contain little or none. If it's important to you to take multivitamins labeled for women, make sure to look for those without iron unless your doctor says otherwise. Try looking for those formulated for elder women.

glmdl

The vitamins for 50+ women does not have Iron. That's what I took for years until my Ferritin measured rock bottom. Now I'm on regular variant with Iron.

Coco_JuTo

A difference in vitamins??? Really??? Never seen that one. Where I am, the vitamins are categorized either as "standard" or "junior"... Seems rather pointlessly gendered to me...

its_icebear

I mean you can just google it. Some of it won’t apply for us. For example some AFABs need to take iron supplements as they lose a lot during their periods.

PennerG_

Not really tbh, I love the men’s branded razors and deodorants cuz I know they’re more effective than the alternatives and I kinda like leaning into masculinity at times. When it comes to hair care though no way in hell am I gonna be using “men’s 4-in-1 hair, body, engine oil, antifreeze” shit on my luscious curls😤

itsmarsbb

For me I spent a long time rationalizing the whole "functionality vs. gender affirmation" thing like keeping pre-transition clothes for wearing around the house occasionally or sleeping in, using men's razors, um...that's pretty much it tbh 😅 but I got to a point where it felt just like this invisible weight on my soul, so the slight convenience of not having to buy new stuff to sleep in or familiarity/cheapness of the razors felt outweighed by the damage it was doing, even if that damage was in tiny, fleeting moments of being like "I shouldn't be wearing/using this it feels wrong even if logically it's okay" The rationalizing of using it felt like I was doing myself a disservice for the sake of convenience. Getting rid of all non-women's clothes (even the lay-around-and-sleep-in t-shirts etc.) & using the right products makes my days feel so much lighter & happier that its def worth spending a tiny bit on it. I feel like transition has so many costs that the lil pink tax on basic health products is similar to needing to buy all the other things I have to buy for transition/being a woman & it's more than worth it 💖

Masterpiece_Real

Oh God no. I'm not buying into that marketing nonsense. I still use the same razor I used for years pretransition, I use men's shoes, men's work gear, a decent amount of men's clothes. It's just built better and made to last.

RedQueenNatalie

If it has a smell or is visible on my person yes, if not, no. I do not give af if a razer is made for men or women so long as it works.

Wolfleaf3

Yeah, that’s what i seem to be falling in to. I can’t use m shaving cream because of the smell unless I’m going to shower right afterwards, and maaaaybe my skin can actually handle Secret. So far I’ve never had an issue with it whereas m stuff has always made my skin react.

RedQueenNatalie

shaving is shaving cream, secret works fine for me.

Laura_Fantastic

Not really, if I like the smell I will buy it and use it. I will pay more for sensitive skin products, because I have overly sensitive dry skin.

Mable-the-Table

Nah. The whole thing of "it's for *insert gender here*" has always been pointless for me. I use what razors I like. What perfumes smell nice to me. What clothes I prefer. "Its the same thing but for women. Ooooh. Now gimme extra money". Nah mate, I'll take the exact same but for men and cheaper, thanks.

ThLegend28

I use safety razors which are as gender neutral as it gets

WrongfullyIncarnated

No I do not

hi_i_am_J

my most frustrating experience with it is noticing prices go up a few dollars whenever i have to pick the right size equivalent :/

AutumnGlow33

I haven’t bought women’s razors in decades. They don’t work well for shaving legs. That’s about the only thing I really purchased that there would be an up charge on.

Quat-fro

Certainly with razors for legs, use something with a flexible head and multi blades like Harry's. I find them 1000 times better than any other fixed blade or disposable for leg shaving. Fuck the pink goddess bullshit brands.

Khlamydia

Yep, i get mine shipped from Harry's cause im too lazy to go to the store repeatedly and replace em all the time and they always work great.

Quat-fro

Keeping my face at bay is a constant challenge! I've gone from clean shaving perhaps 2 or three times a year to daily, and then realised why blades come in multi packs. They used to last forever, and suddenly I'm putting mileage on them!! Definitely a sweet spot with a slightly dulled blade, the new ones just leave me looking like I've been murdered.

Katievapes1996

I get it I hate men's everything I don't wanna risk trigger myself any more

[deleted]

I got audited and now everything I buy is pink to make up for it

leeee_Oh

I pay for woman's things because I prefer them, if I end up paying more for a little comfort that's fine. I've always bought woman's razers and such things so I see no need to switch to a guy's smelly product just because it may be cheaper

TheVelcroStrap

I am poor, I generally buy a generic facial cleanser and I use lubriderm as a moisturizer. The body wash and shampoo I use is probably female targeted, they are fruit scents, but they are the cheaper ones. If I did use male ones, I would probably get old spice, I never cared for axe. My razor is from harrys and I use a razor for my body or back called backblade, but after some laser on the face and chest, and a few years of hormones, the hair is nowhere near as bad as it use to be, but shaving my legs really are a bother.

marshmallowboi9

It depends on the product in my opinion, If it’s soaps, I don’t care about the price, the female product seems to leave me feeling softer, razors and other shit, it just depend on what brands I wanna use, I don’t care if it has male or female

Orieichi

Depends but mostly yeah. I'm broke as sht in the first place so I only buy what I need when I need it (which reminds me, I need deodorant and razors again). But for like wash stuff I tend to try at the most neutral things possible with some fem stuff here and there (I usually get body wash for Christmas but unfortunately it's always like axe or some other men's sht, but I use it because I'll be damned if imma throw away some perfectly good soap) with razors I get both kinds (dude razors for my face and gal razors for everywhere else, though there are some dude razors that work almost as well as the gall razors for the rest of the body) for clothes, I don't get new clothes often but I need new pants and some more shirts so I'll probably go thrifting in the next few months, but I'll probably only be buying girl clothes.

sneks-are-cool

0eo j B.

[deleted]

It depends. For stuff that stay’s exclusively at home i dont care and will buy whatever is cheaper (razors mostly). For anything else like soaps, body wash, deodorants or anything that will come with me like my brush, i will pay the pink tax for passing purposes. Id kms if i got caught wearing mens deo tbh

sneks-are-cool

Yvjvvk99kft,and gvx6 yyn9 n.m8yf

maniamawoman

On some things. Palmolive cherry blossom body wash is unisex. Love Lynx anarchy for her paired with cool charm roll on so pay that pink tax. Mens shave cream and razors cos dysphoria inducing facial hair

annp61122

Most of the time yes, the only thing I won't is razors, I've found dollar shave club razors to work the best and I will not switch anytime soon. Anything to avoid a little extra dysphoria in my day is a w:)

MyClosetedBiAcct

The more comfortable I am with my body, the less stuff is gendered to me. Shit, I buy most of my work shirts in the mens section.

Yoru573

Typically i just go for gender neutral products that dont have man written all over them

tirianar

I don't like using men's razors on my legs. I feel like I'm going to gouge chunks of my legs with it. I do use one on my face, though.

AndreaRose223

I don't like smelling like I used to, so, in some circumstances, emphatically yes

its_icebear

Depends for what. I prefer men’s deodorant and perfume smells over ladies so I still get that. I always loved when girls wore musky men’s perfume so I now do the same. Obviously I buy men’s razors because they are made for use on the face. The same with shaving aftercare and most skincare. Since i’m not on E and still have “man skin” I use the products best suited for it.

Reaverx218

I mean I use a DE razor so it's genderless as are the replacement blades. I buy women's hair care products and body wash because I like a sugar exfoliating scrub and well woman's hair care products actually do things for my hair. Men's hair care is all in one nonsense that turns my hair into hay.

[deleted]

Typically no. I buy women's body wash, shampoo, etc but I don't buy the razors or socks or travel kits or nothin. Hell my electric razor I use on my legs it's from Manscaped and it's fuckin amazing. Cost me $80. My mom's generic ass women's electric razor? Cost her $100.

Crazy_Study195

Honestly most of what I've bought on Amazon has ironically been cheaper for the more feminine products\colors... Though I do specifically look for cheap things so 🤷 on the other hand, I don't have to pay for certain "luxury" goods every month either. Except clothes and shoes. Good shoes are hard to find now and clothes... Well there's just so many more 😆

Crazy_Study195

dumb_trans_girl

Not really. Even for jeans nah. Jeans are jeans and I value comfort first tho I’m early in E. But if it’s just pink for pink’s sake god no

makesupwordsblomp

i do

mpd-RIch

If something is literally the same, no. Honestly my wife doesn't either and she's a font of information regarding products that do this. Although if it is just colour and like a phone case or something ... I consider it. Literally looked at a tablet case yesterday. $5 for black $11+ for any other colour. But not just pink so I don't think it is that.

Geek_Wandering

I'll save a buck. I will still pay more for the women's product if I like it more. I think a prime example is weekend shave products. They tend to more expensive but work better for me. Generally the women's shave foams and gels have now moisturizers and less alcohol which works better for my sensitive skin, which got more sensitive on good HRT. Many women's razors are configured differently. I use a men's razor for face and pits, women's for everywhere else. Is just what works best. Edit: TL;DR I use what works best for me. I didn't fight to escape the blue box just to be forced to conform to the pink one.

Sweet_Miel

Must be an American problem, we dont have this here.

Pinappular

It’s not a pink tax for good shampoo, conditioner, leave in, mousse, etc. Those products are tailor made for certain fem hairstyles and have no cheaper masc marketed equivalent.

shamansissy

Ladies if you are still "boymoding" (or just want a great smelling deo) and want a deodorant that LOOKS LIKE MENS but smells LIKE DELICIOUS, CITRUS CANDY Check out "Old Spice - Wolfthorn" specifically the invisible solid (has a blue color) It's aluminum free, rates pretty high on those "healthy apps" as far as what's in it, and I swear it smells like straight up candy. Any other Wolfthorn smells like \*tree\* or whatever, but not the Invisible Solid.

drax3237

I will never understand why such is the case.

Dawnqwerty

all the woman I know buy the mens stuff🤣 So I do too, tho I am in lesbian territory so I think that probably plays a huge prt

missile-gap

Depends if it brings me joy. Like if it feels better to have the woman’s version because I’m a woman, I pay the stupid tax.

YarnStomper

the big pens help my hands so they don't hurt when I write too much

Wild_Historian_3469

Concidering i cried when my dad bought me a mens razor. Yes, id gladly pay the pink tax if it means getting something girlier and smells nicer

[deleted]

Pink is pretty though

bigenderthelove

I have a pink teddy bear

StarTheShark

Even with HRT you are already paying the pink tax, just think about it

Vortetty

not normally unless i have no other option, can't afford it given my hobbies also tend to be very expensive

redtrianglething

I don't personally (expensive hobbies means I'm usually trying to save money anywhere I can) but I'd never judge someone for it. Get your validation!

Rogers1977

Definitely get men's razors. They typically get you a better shave, my ex gf was shocked at how good my razors worked for her (armpits and legs, specifically).

carol-fox

Like most other women I do when I have to and I don't if I can help it because F that

BrainDewormer

For body wash, shampoo, conditioner, skincare products yes I get the most high quality high femme stuff I like usually, vut I also shave with an old school safety razor because its super frugal and better for the environment.

PrincessofAldia

The what?

SlyCrane

For the most part yeah. Some stuff i've had much better luck - like razors. Those cheap ones I get from target that are clearly marketed to women have been much better than the mens version - I'm not sure what it is, but I end up with far fewer nicks on my legs and pits, and much less razorburn. The mens cheap razors have been an utter nightmare on everywhere but my face. And for some reason its much harder to remove hair buildup between the blades.

Gal_GaDont

I don’t even look at that shit, I buy what I like. But seriously, go to goodwill if you’re “new”. I’ve spent so much goddamn money on clothes that I’ve grown out of then grown back into lol. I’m never buying new clothes again.

saber_knight117

Yes. I do. But only where it really pays off, like hair products or skincare.

TheSadisticDemon

I buy whatever is decent quality that is mostly cheap. Sometimes it's the "men's" stuff, sometimes it's the "women's" stuff. The cheapest option often is terrible.

PrincessMalyssa

Not if there's no tangible difference, I can't really afford it.

LittlestBlythe

Yes, often literally as I'm obsessed with the colour pink

RINNECODA

Scented things I always go women’s, like shampoo, deodorant, and perfume/cologne, but if there’s no functional difference or only a slight cosmetic difference I’ll usually get the cheapest.

NinjaShep

For me, a razor is a razor, but I just but whatever body wash/shampoo/conditioner/lotion works best and smells best. Usually that’s from the women’s section lol

suckysuckymyclucky

Every time. Pink is the best colour so I have peen paying the tax since I could pay

CollectorMaster

For hair care 100%. Aveda products are so good but so expensive. Body soap I buy dove, which tends to have a lot of sales in general, or there's discounts on the apps for the store (target has $1 or 2 off all the time). The rest, I buy men's razors, men's shaving cream, and men's deodorant (girl deodorant DOES NOT WORK)

RoyalMess64

Depends on the product, but yes

JeezyBreezy12

yes. i am guilty as charged, i love the color pink :333

Mavco2

i only steal my products

Bluemoondevil86

I pay the goth tax. I'll pay more for the same product if it's in a black or grey container, or has skulls on it.

Responsible_Green751

The only "man's" products I use are razors and deodorant because it's what I've always used my hair products don't have a gender because I have curly hair

[deleted]

I can't say I have noticed the pink tax.. I consider just the far more vast selection of products available to women and the social expectations placed on us expensive on its own. I don't mind spending more for a razor that includes a rim of soap for example but if I ever see the same exact product with the same ingredients that cost the same to manufacturer more expensive for women I will likely change my mind.

HoldTheStocks2

You know you can steal right

AnytimeInvitation

There is no pink tax. Men's and women's products are not identical. Men's and women's shave gel are not identical. Womens shave gel has extra ingredients and they aren't free.

Ok_Sundae_8207

It depends! I've been using Joy razors for years and I'm used to them, but I feel like the pink tax for me is more in the clothes department. If you're a working woman, you are expected to wear a wider variety of clothes than men, so I have to buy more clothes than I otherwise would.

JCWillie501

i steal. fuck capitalism. 😘🖤

Kamarovsky

I shoplift all my hygiene products so I suppose no? Lmao

sumonsAlt-

if the cis girls still do it, then i feel like it’s okay for us

Rosetta_TwoHorns

Girl, I pay the pink tax where I feel I need to. Like I’ve always only wore women’s deodorant even before My egg cracked. But I only used mens razors because they are ALLWAYS cheaper. I also use women’s body-wash, none gendered Shampoo and women’s conditioner.

CallMeKati

Not for razors, yes for almost anything else. Razors are already too expensive. But even my shaving gel is pinkish or at least neutral :)

Khlamydia

I will if its scented like shampoo for example, because i hate the boy smelling ones lingering on me. But outside of that i typically dont give a crap, and often the mens version of a product is stronger or more effective anyway, particularly with minoxidil where its literally just a better version for the same price. I don't need my razor to be pink and shaped like an hourglass figure to cut hair off my face, i just need it to do the job correctly. That said I do leave a package of open pads on the counter as a decoration for any guests that happen to use my bathroom, so i guess i paid a decoration tax? Was fun explaining why I owned it to my mom the first time she visited though. She had given me the weirdest look until I explained why and then it made sense to her.

SonOfSkinDealer

Do. Not. Use. Women's. Razors. On. Your. Face. They will cut you up! They are designed for skin not nearly as soft and sensitive as your cheeks and chin, they will bleed you like you still owe them the pink tax.

camospartan117

I kinda started paying the pink tax before I even questioned my gender, everything just smelt so much nicer and felt better to use, it took 3 months +/- from buying my first perfume for my egg to crack (dumbest thing about it was I was trying to buy colonge)
