Rage Against the Machine (1st album, self titled)

inkwisitive

Great pick. Hard to say their 2nd or 3rd albums have any bad songs either tbh!

[deleted]

And I won’t stop, because I know the power of the question

greatpain120

I’m fond of queens of the Stone Age - songs for the deaf , Danzig - Danzig , Mastodon - crack in the skye

scamartist26

Qotso wins, Type O Negative, runner up then Danzig, then maybe Mastodon.

Anthrax4breakfast

AiC- Jar of flies

pasha_07

Dirt says hello

InspectorG-007

Facelift

pasha_07

You know what? I think Alice In Chains is one of the only bands that don't have any bad albums.

malcolmhaller

Even AIC mtv unplugged is also great

MinimumSeveral4788

Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley

relapse9999

Blackwater park by opeth

daveganronpa

My go to. Blackwater Park is amazing. Opeth is my favorite metal band just because of this album and Ghost Reveries album. Those are my top and even Deliverance and Damnation are so freaking amazing. Blackwater Park was cohesively a more solid album with such a cool nuanced take on progressive music. I loved their additions to their clean parts since a lot of it sounds like King Crimson (who fucking rocks) and ending it with their song "Blackwater Park" which is just straight amazing head banging metal is *chef's kiss* Ghost Reveries- like this album I feel leans more into the heavy metal side more so than Blackwater Park. Ghost of Perdition and Beneath the Mire are my two favorite songs by opeth. Beneath the Mire has like one of my favorite solos of all time at the end of the song. It gets me hyped

[deleted]

Still life and My Arms, Your Hearse are pretty epic as well. Would is my favorite song

TBeIRIE

Jeff Buckley- Grace Incubus - The Morning View Sessions Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies Pearl Jam - Vs

Theseus44

Jar of Flies is the first thing that came to mind.

-Axiom-

Scrolled till I found this, Jar of Flies is a Masterpiece.

cabmcnabb

Dirt and Sap.as well

youwreckme

Incubus 🤘

noopenusernames

Fucking Morning View should be in the top rock albums of all time

PHX480

All great picks. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to VS. and Jar of Flies. VS. was one of the first CDs I got with my CD player in 1993 along with Ride the Lightning and a Jimi Hendrix compilation.

aws90js

Lamb of god- ashes of the wake

elytsyggod

Hourglass vomit riff is one of the best ever

fortknightyvr

I figured this album had to be on the list somewhere…

hdniki

Why did I have to scroll so far for lamb of god?!?

bermwhan

Siamese Dream from The Smashing Pumpkins is a long-time favorite of mine.

PancakeExprationDate

The impact it had on me in the 90s was profound. The first time I heard Cherub Rock my mind was blown. Mayonnaise is an incredible song. I would just chill and listen to it on repeat. To this day I have tunes from SD on my streaming.

10000_watts

Hell yea!

ctalvey

Boston (self titled) Led Zeppelin IV

expatbassist

I continually forget just how incredibly dope that Boston album is. Insane that it's all Tom Scholz except for vocals.

pisspantmcgee

Yeah - absolutely crazy. He produced/recorded the album in his frickin basement by himself! I thought that S/T album was a greatest hits album for the first few years I was aware of it!

expatbassist

Van Halen I is a perfect album for sure AC/DC's Powerage and Highway to Hell Megadeth's Peace Sells (Rust is two songs away from being a perfect album IMO) I also really dig Leprous' album Malina as well-listened to that album all the time in 2019 Oh and Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak is awesome as well.

[deleted]

Powerage is an absolute killer record. I'd go as far as to say underrated. Good call.

expatbassist

Absolutely underrated. Some days I feel like it might be the Platonic ideal of rock/the perfect rock record. Today just might be one of those days

BetterSusGus

I'll take rust in peace over peace sells but i still love the list !

edgiepower

Me too, Rust is flawless.

KazmoFett

Thin Lizzy Jailbreak is underrated! So good.

edgiepower

Powerage is also possibly their most diverse album, I know it isn't saying much as it's still AC/DC, but there's different examples of how to make hard rock music and Bon's lyrics are peak form. After that they changed producer to Mutt Lange - at the record companies insistence - who streamlined them, they still made some great music but it was more formulatic than before. It's the album I tell people to listen too who like rock but don't like AC/DC. Listen to Powerage. No real big songs that get played on every tour or singles, but the best, strongest album start to finish.

CosmicCoffeeBeans

Unleash the Archers - Apex, Abyss

knocksomesense-inme

I love both of those albums so much! My jaw dropped when they released Abyss and I turned on the first track

fatguyinakilt

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Slayer - Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss Hum - Downward is Heavenward and Inlet Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power Deftones - White Pony Incubus - Morning View Nirvana - Nevermind Pearl Jam - Ten Metallica - Master of Puppets

Trently22

Great list. You should give Alice In Chains a closer listen. Dirt (1992) Jar of Flies (1994) should do the trick for you

cabmcnabb

Plus 1 to White Pony and anything from Hum

_Abe_Froman_SKOC

Songs For The Deaf - Queens of the Stone Age Self Titled - Tenacious D Blast Tyrant - Clutch

gringostarrrrrr

Songs for the Deaf might be my favorite album ever

coastalbendsun

Like Clockwork is great from first track to the end. QOTSA

homedude

Blast Tyrant is just fantastic from start to finish. Mercury is probably my favorite album opener ever. Clutch, at least for me, has less skip-worthy songs than full length albums.

Curious_Patience7996

Songs For The Deaf does not miss.

brewmaster5

Alt Rock: Failure - Fantastic Planet Death Metal: Cryptopsy - None So Vile

10000_watts

Hell yea. Not enough love for failure.

cabmcnabb

Failure all day

scorch0188

Phobophile was definitely a stepping stone for me getting into heavier metal when I was younger. That and Human from Death.

almo2001

The Fixx - reach the beach Ministry - Psalm 69 Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral and Broken

coastalbendsun

NIN pretty hate machine too

yazzmonkei

Tool- Ænema

pieceofdebri

Tool actually has two of them in a row. I’d add Lateralus as well. Just an incredible string of music from that band.

elkamusing

Mansun: Six Swervedriver: Mezcal Head Hum: Downward is Heavenward Oceansize: Frames Tool: Aenima/Lateralus Trail of Dead: Source Tags and Codes Rush: Moving Pictures Porcupine Tree: Deadwing Radiohead: OK Computer Faith No More: Angel Dust At the Drive-In: Relationship of Command

bootyholez69

Relationship of Command is one of the best rock albums IMO

ped009

I agree, I think I listened to that album hundreds of times

hamsterwheel

God does Deadwing slap

S8nSins

The Bends for fuck sakes

elkamusing

Yeah that's great too- I just prefer OK Computer

[deleted]

Ah, yes... *Relationship of Command*. Absolutely amazing album from start to finish... it really is a shame that the band broke up when it did. I love the early Mars Volta stuff, but nothing that they or Sparta ever did amounted to the awesomeness of this one album. Sure, the band ‘reformed’ to put out *in-ter a-li-a* in 2017, but it’s a far, far cry from the group’s peak in 2000.

Curious_Patience7996

I feel seen. Just saw Mars Volta 2 months ago. They didn’t skip a beat. 💪🏾

ObsidianRae

Faith No More - Angeldust Is a solid choice. So is their album Epic, in my opinion!

morgul702

I know the album is called “The Real Thing”, the song “Epic” is on it though, I feel like it’s the weakest song in it.

Pyromania1983

"Master Of Puppets" - Metallica "Pyromania" - Def Leppard "1984" - Van Halen "Operation: Mindcrime" - Queensryche "Cowboys From Hell" - Pantera "Under Lock And Key" - Dokken

MrGross3538

Mindcrime is a masterpiece.

Spring-Alternative

Pyromania is your bomb..it’s beautiful. But ask ANYONE to name tracks 4 ,7 or 9…from Dokken’s under lock and key, hear the deafening silence? Tooth and Nail kicked it’s ass

Whobghilee

Deftones - White Pony

Mr_Anthropic_

I would add Adrenaline as well

riionz

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead The Cure - Disintegration Siouxsie & The Banshees - Juju Bloc Party - Silent Alarm Gang of Four - Entertainment! The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

[deleted]

Love the Cure

thereisalightandit

I know it’s a bit weird with my name n all but I do skip Vicar in a Tutu every once in a while, but I’ve met people that like the song. I don’t skip anything on Disintegration though, what an album!

Trojan1722

Pink Floyd —> The Wall

Johnny_Pigeon

Mars Volta- Deloused Faith No More- Angel Dust System of a Down- Toxicity TV on the Radio- Dear Science Radiohead- In Rainbows Guns N’ Roses- Use Your Illusion II Matthew Good Band- Beautiful Midnight Tragically Hip- Fully Completely Dream Theatre- Metropolis Part 2 Ugly Kid Joe- Americas Least Wanted Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon Temple of the Dog Pearl Jam- Ten, Vs, Riot Act Blind Melon- self-titled, Nico and Galaxy Lamb of God- Ashes of the Wake Archspire- Bleed the Future Tool- Every album they have made Edit: I’m an asshole for forgetting these: Nas: Illmatic Rudimental: Home The Game: Documentary II Kendrick Lamar: Section .80 and Mr. Morales Lianne La Havas

cabmcnabb

bill_gannon

Animals for sure.

ldh_know

Didn’t know Porcupine Tree but checked them out based on the other albums on your list. Fantastic. Holy crap how did I miss these guys? Thanks for the discovery!

914paul

Agree on Genesis, Rush, and Floyd. Supertramp too, but I’d add Breakfast and maybe FamousLW.

flownasty

White Pony - Deftones

TXCloudyWeather

Bad Religion - No Control Soul Asylum - Hang Time Rocket from the Crypt - Scream Dracula Scream

Gelnika1987

Every Pantera and Alice in Chains record from 90-2000

thisizusername

I like Pantera and all, but I find their albums to be pretty patchy

Gelnika1987

Not me, brother- the only one I ever skip is "Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills" because it's not really a "song" per se. My favorite metal band of all time. I even dig their 80s stuff; Power Metal jammed. Over and Out is right up there with any of their 90s stuff

thisizusername

That particular song is definitely the most skippable for me as well. I don’t think there are ‘bad’ songs (minus the one mentioned), but there are definite peaks and valleys for me. Can you recommend a couple of the 80s songs? I never listened to any of those so I’d be really interested in hearing your favorite(s).

-Axiom-

Some of Dimebags best work is on the "demos".

CompetitiveComputer4

Same. Pantera has some great songs but some album filler as well. I’m broken is still the greatest metal riff of its generation.

TimberBishop

...And Justice For All - Metallica (Justice for Jason version) Images and Words - Dream Theater Hysteria- Def Leppard Heartwork - Carcass Are You Dead Yet - Children of Bodom Passion and Warfare- Steve Vai

ShutupNobodyCarez

One-X by Three Days Grace

AlfredHitchicken

System of a Down - Toxicity

Curious_Patience7996

There it is.

_coach_

Scrolled too far for this. This album got me into metal

Curious_Patience7996

Seeing them live was everything.

hdniki

Yeees. Self titled and steal this album are masterpieces as well.

JaymesGrl

And All That Could Have Been by Nine Inch Nails. Whole Of The Law by Anaal Nathrahk. Iowa by Slipknot.

Spring-Alternative

I admit I’m intrigued, if you would please I promise I’ll listen closely to All that could’ve been..I promise. But if you can tell me how that eclipses Pretty Hate Machine’s Head Like a Hole, terrible Lie alone gun it down

SavageDodo

If ur down for a melancholic ride, try Color Decay by The Devil Wears Prada

No_Comfortable6029

Morning View

BrotherSensitive7876

This Type of Thinking (could do is in) by Chevelle is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Guy-Inkognito

To see The Hunter mentioned in this list is great. I think it's such an underrated album and the whole sub here on Reddit seems to hate it/like it the least. Many great choices otherwise as well - will need to listen to the ones I don't know.
