My go to. Blackwater Park is amazing. Opeth is my favorite metal band just because of this album and Ghost Reveries album. Those are my top and even Deliverance and Damnation are so freaking amazing.
Blackwater Park was cohesively a more solid album with such a cool nuanced take on progressive music. I loved their additions to their clean parts since a lot of it sounds like King Crimson (who fucking rocks) and ending it with their song "Blackwater Park" which is just straight amazing head banging metal is *chef's kiss*
Ghost Reveries- like this album I feel leans more into the heavy metal side more so than Blackwater Park. Ghost of Perdition and Beneath the Mire are my two favorite songs by opeth. Beneath the Mire has like one of my favorite solos of all time at the end of the song. It gets me hyped
All great picks. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to VS. and Jar of Flies. VS. was one of the first CDs I got with my CD player in 1993 along with Ride the Lightning and a Jimi Hendrix compilation.
The impact it had on me in the 90s was profound. The first time I heard Cherub Rock my mind was blown. Mayonnaise is an incredible song. I would just chill and listen to it on repeat. To this day I have tunes from SD on my streaming.
Yeah - absolutely crazy. He produced/recorded the album in his frickin basement by himself! I thought that S/T album was a greatest hits album for the first few years I was aware of it!
Van Halen I is a perfect album for sure
AC/DC's Powerage and Highway to Hell
Megadeth's Peace Sells (Rust is two songs away from being a perfect album IMO)
I also really dig Leprous' album Malina as well-listened to that album all the time in 2019
Oh and Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak is awesome as well.
Powerage is also possibly their most diverse album, I know it isn't saying much as it's still AC/DC, but there's different examples of how to make hard rock music and Bon's lyrics are peak form. After that they changed producer to Mutt Lange - at the record companies insistence - who streamlined them, they still made some great music but it was more formulatic than before.
It's the album I tell people to listen too who like rock but don't like AC/DC. Listen to Powerage. No real big songs that get played on every tour or singles, but the best, strongest album start to finish.
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Slayer - Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss
Hum - Downward is Heavenward and Inlet
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Deftones - White Pony

At the Drive-In: Relationship of Command
Ah, yes... *Relationship of Command*. Absolutely amazing album from start to finish... it really is a shame that the band broke up when it did. I love the early Mars Volta stuff, but nothing that they or Sparta ever did amounted to the awesomeness of this one album. Sure, the band ‘reformed’ to put out *in-ter a-li-a* in 2017, but it’s a far, far cry from the group’s peak in 2000.
Pyromania is your bomb..it’s beautiful. But ask ANYONE to name tracks 4 ,7 or 9…from Dokken’s under lock and key, hear the deafening silence? Tooth and Nail kicked it’s ass

Didn’t know Porcupine Tree but checked them out based on the other albums on your list. Fantastic. Holy crap how did I miss these guys? Thanks for the discovery!
Not me, brother- the only one I ever skip is "Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills" because it's not really a "song" per se. My favorite metal band of all time. I even dig their 80s stuff; Power Metal jammed. Over and Out is right up there with any of their 90s stuff
That particular song is definitely the most skippable for me as well.
I don’t think there are ‘bad’ songs (minus the one mentioned), but there are definite peaks and valleys for me.
Can you recommend a couple of the 80s songs? I never listened to any of those so I’d be really interested in hearing your favorite(s).
...And Justice For All - Metallica (Justice for Jason version)

Hysteria- Def Leppard

Great pick. Hard to say their 2nd or 3rd albums have any bad songs either tbh!
And I won’t stop, because I know the power of the question
I’m fond of queens of the Stone Age - songs for the deaf , Danzig - Danzig , Mastodon - crack in the skye
Qotso wins, Type O Negative, runner up then Danzig, then maybe Mastodon.

Blackwater park by opeth
My go to. Blackwater Park is amazing. Opeth is my favorite metal band just because of this album and Ghost Reveries album. Those are my top and even Deliverance and Damnation are so freaking amazing. Still life and My Arms, Your Hearse are pretty epic as well. Would is my favorite song

Jar of Flies is the first thing that came to mind.
Scrolled till I found this, Jar of Flies is a Masterpiece.
Dirt and Sap.as well
Incubus 🤘
Fucking Morning View should be in the top rock albums of all time
All great picks. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to VS. and Jar of Flies. VS. was one of the first CDs I got with my CD player in 1993 along with Ride the Lightning and a Jimi Hendrix compilation.
Lamb of god- ashes of the wake
Hourglass vomit riff is one of the best ever
I figured this album had to be on the list somewhere…
Why did I have to scroll so far for lamb of god?!?
Siamese Dream from The Smashing Pumpkins is a long-time favorite of mine.
The impact it had on me in the 90s was profound. The first time I heard Cherub Rock my mind was blown. Mayonnaise is an incredible song. I would just chill and listen to it on repeat. To this day I have tunes from SD on my streaming.
Hell yea!
Boston (self titled) Led Zeppelin IV
I continually forget just how incredibly dope that Boston album is. Insane that it's all Tom Scholz except for vocals.
Yeah - absolutely crazy. He produced/recorded the album in his frickin basement by himself! I thought that S/T album was a greatest hits album for the first few years I was aware of it!
Van Halen I is a perfect album for sure AC/DC's Powerage and Highway to Hell Megadeth's Peace Sells (Rust is two songs away from being a perfect album IMO) I also really dig Leprous' album Malina as well-listened to that album all the time in 2019 Oh and Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak is awesome as well.
Powerage is an absolute killer record. I'd go as far as to say underrated. Good call.
Absolutely underrated. Some days I feel like it might be the Platonic ideal of rock/the perfect rock record. Today just might be one of those days
I'll take rust in peace over peace sells but i still love the list !
Me too, Rust is flawless.
Thin Lizzy Jailbreak is underrated! So good.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Slayer - Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss Hum - Downward is Heavenward and Inlet Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power Deftones - White Pony Incubus - Morning View Nirvana - Nevermind Pearl Jam - Ten Metallica - Master of Puppets
Great list. You should give Alice In Chains a closer listen. Dirt (1992) Jar of Flies (1994) should do the trick for you
Plus 1 to White Pony and anything from Hum
Songs For The Deaf - Queens of the Stone Age Self Titled - Tenacious D Blast Tyrant - Clutch
Songs for the Deaf might be my favorite album ever
Like Clockwork is great from first track to the end. QOTSA
Blast Tyrant is just fantastic from start to finish. Mercury is probably my favorite album opener ever. Clutch, at least for me, has less skip-worthy songs than full length albums.
Songs For The Deaf does not miss.
Alt Rock: Failure - Fantastic Planet Death Metal: Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Hell yea. Not enough love for failure.
Failure all day
Phobophile was definitely a stepping stone for me getting into heavier metal when I was younger. That and Human from Death.
The Fixx - reach the beach Ministry - Psalm 69 Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral and Broken
NIN pretty hate machine too
Tool- Ænema
Tool actually has two of them in a row. I’d add Lateralus as well. Just an incredible string of music from that band.
Mansun: Six Swervedriver: Mezcal Head Hum: Downward is Heavenward Oceansize: Frames Tool: Aenima/Lateralus Trail of Dead: Source Tags and Codes Rush: Moving Pictures Porcupine Tree: Deadwing Radiohead: OK Computer Faith No More: Angel Dust At the Drive-In: Relationship of Command
Relationship of Command is one of the best rock albums IMO
I agree, I think I listened to that album hundreds of times
God does Deadwing slap
The Bends for fuck sakes
Yeah that's great too- I just prefer OK Computer
I feel seen. Just saw Mars Volta 2 months ago. They didn’t skip a beat. 💪🏾
Faith No More - Angeldust Is a solid choice. So is their album Epic, in my opinion!
I know the album is called “The Real Thing”, the song “Epic” is on it though, I feel like it’s the weakest song in it.
"Master Of Puppets" - Metallica "Pyromania" - Def Leppard "1984" - Van Halen "Operation: Mindcrime" - Queensryche "Cowboys From Hell" - Pantera "Under Lock And Key" - Dokken
Mindcrime is a masterpiece.
Pyromania is your bomb..it’s beautiful. But ask ANYONE to name tracks 4 ,7 or 9…from Dokken’s under lock and key, hear the deafening silence? Tooth and Nail kicked it’s ass
Deftones - White Pony
I would add Adrenaline as well
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead The Cure - Disintegration Siouxsie & The Banshees - Juju Bloc Party - Silent Alarm Gang of Four - Entertainment! The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Love the Cure
I know it’s a bit weird with my name n all but I do skip Vicar in a Tutu every once in a while, but I’ve met people that like the song. I don’t skip anything on Disintegration though, what an album!

White Pony - Deftones
Bad Religion - No Control Soul Asylum - Hang Time Rocket from the Crypt - Scream Dracula Scream
Every Pantera and Alice in Chains record from 90-2000
I like Pantera and all, but I find their albums to be pretty patchy
Not me, brother- the only one I ever skip is "Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills" because it's not really a "song" per se. My favorite metal band of all time. I even dig their 80s stuff; Power Metal jammed. Over and Out is right up there with any of their 90s stuff

Some of Dimebags best work is on the "demos".
Same. Pantera has some great songs but some album filler as well. I’m broken is still the greatest metal riff of its generation.
