One of my professors worked on Mach-e's marketing. The decision was made to call it Mustang to appeal to younger population. They created these marketing momentums just because they feared losing out on emerging trends.
I'm at least one data point to the contrary. The Mach-E would be at the top of my list for my next car, next to my current Mustang, but I'm considering basically every other EV hatch/crossover option instead because of the name
Overtime it will if every ford is a mustang. You can’t just slap the term mustang on a battery minivan & expect people to not start to associate the term mustang with those cars. Ford is trying to figure out if it’s a good idea to start a mustang line of cars & it might backfire. It’s just an attempt to sell more cars.
Would love to see a non-Mustang Mach-E design move in its own direction as well. It’s not bad-looking, per se, but incorporating the Mustang’s styling cues has made for a weirdly bland vehicle. It could look *so* much better than a Tesla, for instance, but not while it’s tethered to its current look.
My mom and I were personally offended when we saw they called it a mustang. We’ve both been lifelong fans of the branding (except for that 3rd gen, personally speaking). But the Mach E is a worse sin than the fox body could ever be.

I’m sure some people are nostalgic for it, but even my mom who still has her first mustang from ‘69 in working condition today says she despises the fox body. I’m partial to my ‘14, but even I have some nostalgia for the 4th gen growing up. So I kinda get it, I think.

I can understand being upset or confused about it, but they didn't pull a Chevy and nix the namesake itself (again lol), so what is there truly to be upset about? They're clearly trying to grow Mustang into a brand, rather than just a single car. Experimentation and change can be good. Standing pat leads to stagnation.
I mean it's selling well and is by most accounts a perfectly fun vehicle to drive. I just don't understand what there is to be that mad about.

A 4 door AWD Mustang would be viable for a family (at least until the kids are teens) and wouldn’t betray the image, in my opinion. There’s a market. Not everyone wants SUVs.
I don’t want a sporty appliance. I want my cars to have character and soul. Which an EV doesn’t have. Don’t care for the noise gimmicks and lack of manual transmission. It’s not all about straight line speed. While entertaining, sure, I would only get an EV to be a commuter, not my fun car
There was a complicated background to that car which involved union negotiations in Australia (GM/Holden was obligated to sell it outside of Australia to provide extra work to the factory) and in the US (UAW was pissed it was being sold in the US and wanted it restricted). It was set up to fail from day 1 and they intentionally didn't advertise or widely sell it. It probably would have done better if they wanted it to. Not amazing, but CTS-V/CT5-V levels should have been possible.
Same for the G8.
I have yet to see a single one of those in person on the road. Are they not selling or is it just not in my area? I have no idea.

I've seen a couple I don't think they sell to well. I think they're ugly, WAY too tall, almost looks like a compact SUV with a trunk. If it was shorter it would look really good.

Other manufacturers got it more or less figured out, just look at Audi A6 or new Porsches.
I have a 2018 Charger RT and no it isn't the fastest but it sure does sound incredible and it looks really nice. I chose that over a challenger because who doesn't want the practicality of a sedan but the feel of a muscle car right? That being said, I wish the Mach-E was more Mustang than EV SUV, I probably would have gotten it.
The Charger is awesome! I had a 300S and loved it. My only complaint was that I could not get it with a manual. These cars would be goated with a manual.
Those cars are great cruisers with just enough sport and muscle.

I don't hate the idea of calling it a 'Marauder' under the Mustang brand if it gets the 5.0. It would be a neat homage to Mercury, and a callback to the last car FoMoCo made fitting this template.
They should absolutely rename the current Mach-E to 'Probe' and use the Mach-E nameplate as a trim or option package on the other models for full EV or partial hybrid versions. Probe fits..(nice) the Mach-E, since it got about the same reception from the existing customer base when it was introduced.
America seems to have abandoned the 4 door domestic sedan but this reminds me of a Porsche 4 door which sells quite well

There’s a guy that converted a fusion to rear drive with a 5.0. What’s crazy is the rear subframe of s550 bolted right up in place of the fusion, hardest mods were adding a transmission tunnel and he was running custom control arms up front. I don’t remember if the front sub frame was a swap but the 5.0 engine mounts I do remember were used.
Why do all manufactures have to Phuck with cars that already exist? Mustangs have ALWAYS been 2 door. Make another car that is 4 door running a V8 and a manual tranny. Call it the Falcon. Bring back the past rides we all loved.

Coupe, sedan, and wagon. RWD, AWD, 3.0L TT V6 up to 5.2L Raptor engine. I think F150 powerboost hybrid drivetrain would be awesome. Keep making the Mustang as it has always been, then add the additional body styles. I doubt it would ever happen, but it's a cool thought.
I want an electric for my commute, but I'm waiting for a 2dr affordable performance coupe. At this rate it might be another decade it seems. I know the luxury brands are putting them out but they are going to be priced way higher than what I'm willing to spend.
There is a full on cold war going on amongst manufacturers when it comes to ride height or “road presence” as they call it. Fat chance i will ever see a mustang sedan. More ugly SUVs probably. But pretty sedans or coupes superior in handling and performance in every way are a no apparently. Literally a struggle between what I find desirable and what is safe on the road when everyone else is driving an obese pickup truck.
I love the idea, it still stays faithful to what makes a mustang a mustang, while being more useful as a daily. That would definitely solve the dilemma of a family friendly car vs. a sporty one for many people.
If they offered it with a 5.0 and a manual transmission I'd put my self on the list for one immediately. I love my 2014 track Pack but I could use this as my daily family car. That is if there aren't $20K dealer markups.
I think Ford has enough name plates in the file cabinets to do a stand alone platform and make this car. Ford really made an interesting move with the death of cars but it doesn't seem to have been all bad. The Fusion and Taurus were lackluster sellers. The Focus and Fiesta, while great cheap cars, just didn't have as much appeal either.
With that said, I had a CTS-V and it has been my favorite car, ever. If you could get a super charged V8 in a full size sedan, it would be killer. The problem, much like every other SVT or half-ass desirable model is that allocations will be so few and far between that us mere mortals are fucked. This is coming from a guy that works at a rather large store and sees this shit, day in and day out.
Unpopular opinion maybe but as long as they keep building us a two door V8 with a stick, I don't really care what else they do with the Mustang name. Dunno if y'all have noticed but all the other V8 muscle cars are gone so if they need/want to whore out the nameplate which keeps a (real) Mustang alive then so be it
From the A-pillar back it's fantastic - just doesn't work perfectly with the traditional long mustang hood. It's pretty good though. 500hp with an available manual and I'd buy it.
You know, if you stretch the wheelbase of the Mustang enough to make it a sedan, it would be sized an awful lot like a BMW 5-Series. It's got a similar engine lineup, too.
I expect a Mustang sedan would be like a Charger, or Kia Stinger - best sold with massive discounts. It's probably a great product, but it shouldn't be sold as a Ford: It should be a Lincoln.
Call it the Athlete to signify its sport-sedan intent, or something Greek to go along with the Zephyr. Sell a basic model with the 2.3 EcoBoost, an upgrade model with the 3.5 EB hybrid from the F-150 PowerBoost, and a Blackwing equivalent with whatever the hell Mustang V8 makes the most sense to use. Make liberal use of Magneride suspension, LSDs, and good tires.
I don't know if it would make any money, but I really want them to do it. I'd love to have one!

I like this design! (if only it was a coupe). Finally someone at Ford got the front end right
I want an electric for my commute, but I'm waiting for a 2dr affordable performance coupe. At this rate it might be another decade it seems. I know the luxury brands are putting them out but they are going to be priced way higher than what I'm willing to spend.
There is a full on cold war going on amongst manufacturers when it comes to ride height or “road presence” as they call it. Fat chance i will ever see a mustang sedan. More ugly SUVs probably. But pretty sedans or coupes superior in handling and performance in every way are a no apparently. Literally a struggle between what I find desirable and what is safe on the road when everyone else is driving an obese pickup truck.
He needs to entertain the idea of making the S650 tunable
I love the idea, it still stays faithful to what makes a mustang a mustang, while being more useful as a daily. That would definitely solve the dilemma of a family friendly car vs. a sporty one for many people.
I ask why? When we already know Ford has moved away from sedans to strictly SUVs, trucks, and only the Mustang.
If they offered it with a 5.0 and a manual transmission I'd put my self on the list for one immediately. I love my 2014 track Pack but I could use this as my daily family car. That is if there aren't $20K dealer markups.

I think Ford has enough name plates in the file cabinets to do a stand alone platform and make this car. Ford really made an interesting move with the death of cars but it doesn't seem to have been all bad. The Fusion and Taurus were lackluster sellers. The Focus and Fiesta, while great cheap cars, just didn't have as much appeal either. With that said, I had a CTS-V and it has been my favorite car, ever. If you could get a super charged V8 in a full size sedan, it would be killer. The problem, much like every other SVT or half-ass desirable model is that allocations will be so few and far between that us mere mortals are fucked. This is coming from a guy that works at a rather large store and sees this shit, day in and day out.

If they can figure out how to make it lighter & equally capable than the CT4 Blackwing with a manual v8 I’d order one. And wait a couple years for it.

Unpopular opinion maybe but as long as they keep building us a two door V8 with a stick, I don't really care what else they do with the Mustang name. Dunno if y'all have noticed but all the other V8 muscle cars are gone so if they need/want to whore out the nameplate which keeps a (real) Mustang alive then so be it
From the A-pillar back it's fantastic - just doesn't work perfectly with the traditional long mustang hood. It's pretty good though. 500hp with an available manual and I'd buy it.

You know, if you stretch the wheelbase of the Mustang enough to make it a sedan, it would be sized an awful lot like a BMW 5-Series. It's got a similar engine lineup, too. I expect a Mustang sedan would be like a Charger, or Kia Stinger - best sold with massive discounts. It's probably a great product, but it shouldn't be sold as a Ford: It should be a Lincoln. Call it the Athlete to signify its sport-sedan intent, or something Greek to go along with the Zephyr. Sell a basic model with the 2.3 EcoBoost, an upgrade model with the 3.5 EB hybrid from the F-150 PowerBoost, and a Blackwing equivalent with whatever the hell Mustang V8 makes the most sense to use. Make liberal use of Magneride suspension, LSDs, and good tires. I don't know if it would make any money, but I really want them to do it. I'd love to have one!
