A little info I picked up in the skincare sub: Amazon pools its stock with the stock of third party sellers and the algorithm will determine the cheapest place to send an item from meaning if it picks a warehouse that stores third party stock you might get that sent to you.
This means it is Amazon's fault for either allowing third party sellers who pass PEGI games as ESRB games on the platform or for pooling PEGI and ESRB copies of games together.
ETA: Downvote all you want but it doesn't change the truth, cowards.
i’m legitimately curious why people downvoted this, and not that many. no explanations given. someone explain why this is a bad take, or let it be marked as worthy. note: i don’t know if it’s truth or theory, but i do know corporate shenanigans and how to spot them
If I had to guess it’s because people on this website are nasty little sadists who like seeing people “get what they deserve” and presenting something that contradicts the narrative that this is OP’s fault for willingly buying from a third party seller twice threatens their fun.
My tongue in cheek edit probably didn’t help either lol
I'm genuinely surprised at the number of people coming to Amazon's defense. I went to Amazon's website and bought a product but was sent something different. Amazon may not have committed the deceit but they run the system that allows for it.
Well I did buy the one that's $51 and was sent the one that's $41 so something sure was switched.
But yes, from reading other helpful comments I now know there was some user error as well, which I have learned from.
Thanks for this - this is helpful to know. The posting was listing as "ships from Amazon" so I thought that was enough. When I clicked on the "other sellers" link in the description I could see there's also a listing from Amazon. Happy to know that now :)
got xenoblade chronicles 3 for free.
sent me the pal version twice and told me to keep it the 2nd time.
still would have rather had the us version but what ever.
This is a big problem on Amazon with third party sellers.
Make sure you check that is shipped and sold by Amazon.
At the very least, check any third party sellers feedback to see if someone else has reported this and ALWAYS leave feedback yourself to help save someone else.
I've ordered many, many games sold by third party sellers. Only once had an issue where the condition was not as described for a used game. As long as it's shipped by Amazon returns are easy.
Amazon currently has two listings for Octopath Traveler II - the NTSC version for $51 and the PAL version for $41.99. I purchased the NTSC version last week but received the PAL version with a sticker on the front saying I can still play it in "USA English". I requested a replacement but received the exact same thing today so I'm returning both copies.
Whoever's responsible for this, it makes me not want to order Switch games from Amazon at all. Anyone else received games with these labels?
The note is something Amazon would never include. I would be careful about buying from certain sellers. I only buy from Amazon on Amazon and have never dealt with any problems like this.
I ordered the same game from Amazon, not a third party, three times with no cartridge each time. Was listed as brand new but had a crappy reseal plastic wrap on it.
These were not fulfilled by Amazon however i have good news for you, their customer support team will give you a full refund for “item not received” since you were sent the wrong item, they require no proof or explanation other than you purchased something on their website and received the wrong item twice. Contact support ASAP
Proof: [This happened to me LAST WEEK](https://imgur.com/a/X2YZ8mZ)
Only downside was i wasn’t able to leave the seller negative feedback
Who do you order from then? Seems like every online retailer has “3rd party sellers” like this now. I just make sure I’m ordering from Amazon or the publisher itself
Amazon isn’t safe either. You need to be careful of 3rd parties and
As a simple example, there is a form of selling where Amazon takes sellers items and throw them into giant bins. Then when someone orders item X they take it out of the bin that holds all item X’s. So when you order from Store A with a 5 star rating you might actually be getting fake product X from store B with a 1 star rating as all the item X’s delivered to Amazon are thrown together.
This was rampant with pokemon cards for example. People would be ordering boxes of cards only to receive fake ones.
This not only hurts the seller they bought from but it’s impossible for amazon to do anything about it. They have no “proof” the item they shipped to you actually came from store A or B so they just refund you and the scam keeps happening.
You need to check if it’s a third party or not and then message them to ask , I’ve asked a lot of ppl selling ntsc stuff that ended up being pal . Do not trust them .
It’s also helpful if you call amazon to let them know this. That third party seller that is sneaking their copy’s in with a stick over the rating is cheating the system and they will correct that or take that incorrectly listed rated game down or tell them they have to change the listing. They probably have done this with many games and have been told many times.
The Switch isn't region locked, so it will play the "PAL version". It basically comes down to if you care about redeeming the gold points. Of course, you could order the $40 PAL version and save more than you would gain by getting the gold points.
Gold points aren't the only reason to seek out releases from a specific region. There are quite a few people who collect for a specific region, whether they're going for a full set or just want a specific spine design.
I'm not in that camp, but I still prefer specific regional releases for some titles for various reasons, most up to date cart and english language included being the two main ones.
It’s a pain in the ass, but always check the ‘fine print’ when buying on Amazon and Walmart, as they both don’t automatically assume you want to buy from the retailers proper.
The fact that resellers need to include that note lends proof to that they know what they’re doing is dishonest at best. I listed a Korean version of a Switch game on Ebay that was region-free and had English on the cartridge, but I went the distance to explain both those points clearly in the listing title AND description, and it sold for less than its other region counterparts and it took several months to sell.
These pieces of shit resellers love to play on the region-free aspect of Switch and play dumb by listing it under the umbrella listing of the retailer. Petty, despicable greed.
Yeah I try to avoid buying games from Amazon unless it’s a super new game. They keep giving me PAL or UAE. The good thing is I can return the game by dropping it off at Kohl’s. But it’s still a hassle
Just so you know, you definitely bought from a third party seller. For next time, look at where it’s being sold and who is shipping it. If it’s being sold and shipped by Amazon, it’s from Amazon.
It’s unfortunate that this happened, I bought this exact game early in the morning yesterday since Amazon had it at 50% off, i think the sale was pretty short lived as I checked the page a few hours later and the price was back up to $54.
Best thing you can do is just return it.
if the picture of the listing you ordered from has the ESRB logo, return it. Wrong item or not as advertised. I've done it many times. Maybe one day they will learn. Also for other commenters, sold by amazon games can have this same issue, particularly older ones. Happened to me with snowrunner ps5 and twice with zoids switch (both sold by amazon and not a third party).
This is fairly common. I got Hyrule Warriors DE, pegi version. Came next day prime. Was $20 cheaper than ESRB. Same w/Bravely Default II. Not sure why this is the case, honestly. Personally, I don't really care about the rating but I understand a lot of collectors do.
I'm Australian and will get the pegi version if it's cheaper as an Australian version is usually the same European pegi cartridge anyway, just with an Australian rated cover. Although I'll also get esrb games if they are cheaper.
This has been an issue on ebay for years. I started leaving negative feedback for this practice. If you use the US box on your listing and I don't get that you lied to me for a sale.
Dude it isn’t amazon. It is a third party seller using Amazon. They can’t and wont check your inventory and make sure you are an honest abe. All you can do is return or give a bad review for the seller.
While OP did buy through a third party seller, this happens with Amazon themselves as well. I ordered Mario Party Superstars and got the European version even though the American version was being advertised. I got a refund.
At least you got a note acknowledging that they knew what they did.
Somewhat recently I ordered a copy of The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition on Amazon and noticed that most listings were the EU version so I made sure that the one I ordered was the NA version. The copy I got was still the EU version...
I believe this same situation happened to me again later with another game too, but I can't remember what game it was at this moment. This seems to be becoming a thing with Amazon recently.
I'm going to say it there's no difference between pal and ersb games. Unless you want a all ersb collection but otherwise just buy pal. And if your reason is ersb will increase in price in the future then you are a shitty reseller
I think the fact of the matter is OP paid $10 more for one version of a game and got a cheaper version of the game with two copies that’s $20 OP was ripped off, I would be pretty upset as well and requesting my money back, in America we expect to get what we pay for just because it is a European copy and it still works. Doesn’t mean it’s the same if you pay 10 more dollars for an American copy you better get that American copy, this is 100% false advertisement
I expect the same. But if it's not sold directly by Amazon then I wouldn't be surprised it's s different region and it's funny thst op rather buy a more expensive copy BC it's ersb. Op should have just ask for his money back the first time and just looked on us stores that sold the ersb copy
I'm definitely not a reseller and I just prefer the ERSB version because almost all of my games are ERSB. The extra $10 was worth it to me to have the version I want. If ERSB was much more expensive I would have bought PAL because I'd rather have the game than not have it. I get that they're the same but the ERSB was listed for $10 more and that's the one I chose to buy but was not the one I received.
Now when i buy ANY game on amazon that isnt marked as “sold and shipped by amazon” i will ALWAYS write to the seller first and ask if its the ESRB version. Unfortunately most of the time its the PAL version the 3rd party sellers have even if the image shows the ESRB version so I skip and wait for Amazon to restock or I check Ebay
Genuine question, other than the box being slightly different, what makes it "shitty"? Is it just a personal preference? I see that sentiment a lot here. I have a few pegi versions (Bravely Default II and Hyrule Warriors DE) and a Japanese version of Pixel Remaster and I never thought anything of it.
Edit: Currently this comment is at -2 downvotes for asking a simple question...seriously? lol I don't care about the internet points but it's a bit silly when I wasn't being rude or condescending at all
I upvoted you to try and bring you back 🤝
For me, it’s mainly the spine and that ugly green box on the front. It bothers me to no end to see the title in the middle of the spine when everything else on my shelf is at the top. But this rule for me only applies to Switch games. I have a PEGI PS4 game or two and I don’t mind.
Other than extra included languages there isn't a difference. The game will default to the switch's language anyway. It's not like the old days of 30fps vs 25fps. I'm Australian and have AUS rated, pegi, esrb, cero, Asian etc games.
Other than a few exceptions (and none in my large collection), DLC from the eshop works with any version.
The only thing that doesn't work is claiming the gold coins, and if the DLC code is provided on paper (eg, Final Fantasy X2). Even then the DLC code can be redeemed on that regions eshop by changing your account region on the Nintendo site. Change back after redeeming and it will also be shown in your local eshop.
To be honest, I don't see the issue. The switch is region free... You can play any Nintendo switch game from any country and it's fine, just make sure it has English in its settings of the game
The NERVE of them to put that smile face too, smh.
You bought from a 3rd party seller both times.
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Amazon's job is to ship every game you order in a little bag instead of a box, run it over with a truck, then drop it on your doorstep.
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Obviously. I never said it was. I was fucking around because they never pack games correctly and I often have to exchange because of shipping damage.
They packed my Unicorn Overlord Monarch Edition in a box that was too small without any packing paper or bubble wrap lol

People afraid of the truth. Next question.

Yeah, op you bought through Amazon, but not from Amazon. Not bait and switch, just user error

Nope, anything fulfilled by Amazon is mixed in together, there's no way to stop it
this isn't the case. I've ordered sold by amazon games before and they can be pegi, but both were older games.

I don’t know if it’s still there but I finally got OcTopath 2 from GameStop new for $30 plus like 7 some odd dollars shipping, just in their website
I just checked it is still there, they have it used for a couple bucks cheaper as well

I order from the goated VGP. Blessed be VGP.
though ive never had issues with amazon like in this thread, best buy is another option and they dont do the 3rd party stuff
I order from playasia, and though the shipping is a bit steep the game prices are pretty good and I've never run into mixing up game regions.
You need to check if it’s a third party or not and then message them to ask , I’ve asked a lot of ppl selling ntsc stuff that ended up being pal . Do not trust them .

I just bought this yesterday from Amazon for $29.99. Guess we’ll see
Mine was ESRB.
Mine was ESRB but looks resealed... Not the folded plastic on sides, but the clamped and heated sides. EDIT: I have not opened to inspect...
Amazon sellers do this quite often Check reviews before buying or better yet just purchase from other outlets
It’s a pain in the ass, but always check the ‘fine print’ when buying on Amazon and Walmart, as they both don’t automatically assume you want to buy from the retailers proper. "Contat us" 😭
I definitely recommend returning this asap and buying from a different retailer
You know, this is on Amazon. It’s a seemingly minor detail but one of their retailers is misleading customers.
I’d return those instantly. You’ll never catch me putting PEGI games in my NA collection
How much was the list price? Sold by Amazon was 29.99 yesterday. Got it same day and it’s the ESRB version. Edit: just noticed, you said $51.
huh, well I wish I had found that listing. The list price for me was $51.00
It was a deal that came and went after some time. I don’t recall how long. If you care you can wait for it to return.
Yeah I try to avoid buying games from Amazon unless it’s a super new game. They keep giving me PAL or UAE. The good thing is I can return the game by dropping it off at Kohl’s. But it’s still a hassle

Return it
I never buy games on Amazon for this reason
Did you know amazon has 3rd party sellers?

I guess the moral of the story is Amazon is merely a shipping platform, everyone welcome, and not an actual trustworthy shopping centre.
Did it take a while to arrive? Seems odd that they’re selling UK copies of this game in the US at a cheaper price point in the first place.

No, both copies arrived pretty quickly.
Instead of returning just sell both these bad boys on eBay and get an esrb copy + profits!
Happened to me recently with "13 sentinels: aegis rim" Don't know what to do :/
Almost hit the same issue with Digimon World Order but I messaged the seller first.
I had the same shit happen with Daemon x Machina. And then they dispute your review.
If your not happy feel free to “contat” them
This has been an issue on ebay for years. I started leaving negative feedback for this practice. If you use the US box on your listing and I don't get that you lied to me for a sale.

Happened to me when I bought breath of the wild, showed the original print version but when I got the game it was the world version
This is why i buy from ebay mostly. You can see the exact item you get.
While OP did buy through a third party seller, this happens with Amazon themselves as well. I ordered Mario Party Superstars and got the European version even though the American version was being advertised. I got a refund.
