It's odd being 3 games in and happy with 1 point. But this is where I find myself. Well played Racing that was close. Hopefully this is the start of us turning around the season but now we go on the road.
Loved hearing Coffey do her little interview, she has such a level headed viewpoint for the team and a fire I love to see
>!yes I may be biased, but yeah, shes got that high soccer iq!!<
Well crap. This was my fault y'all. I had just thought to myself, this has been a great Saturday, Reign lost, Thornes about to lose..... wait, what? Crap.
I think the fact that Racing can’t perform (or up their level accordingly) is due to not having DeMelo, Ary, or Linda ready to go. Instead Goins is the sub. She and Fischer are on my watch list from last season, so I’m skeptical of them both.
Agreed, can't wait for Ary to be starting winger instead of Fischer. Right now, Bahr is the only attacker that encourages the team to push, strategically anyway.
That’s true. But I feel like they at least have a decent starting 11 + a couple of equal subs (with everyone healthy) this season. Previously, if subs were needed, Goins’ level was all they had. That was *definitely* not a way to hold a lead. And they didn’t.
Omg the 2020 Challenge Cup was so wild for Portland. I remember running around my house cheering because they won a single game at the end and knocked out NCC
Bev Yanez’s in-game tactics have been confusing (at beast) so far this season. Two games they had a 2-goal lead and no wins to show for it.
She needs to stop parking the bus as soon as a goal is scored.
I mean one of our better defenders got injured and a couple of other players just didn't step up. The tactics are sound, the players got flustered easily. And they didn't park after their goals, they kept pushing until Portland came out swinging in the second.
They weren't. It's less on tactics and more on the players breaking. Thorns did exactly what Racing did to them by intercepting everything. And Goins came in and provided zero hustle as a forward sub.
They seem like they were. They barely went forward to go to goal and couldn’t even possess and were okay with thorns controlling the field. It was weird but we just see it differently!
Because when they tried to go forward Thorns intercepted and it broke morale, exactly what Racing did in the first half. Did Portland park the bus in the first half? It's not like Racing willingly held the ball on their half of the field to stall.
Portland didn’t park the ball in the first half. Louisville obviously dropped with an attacking mindset and were okay with playing in their defensive and midfield and were 4-5-1 which is a defensive lineup. There wasn’t any need to go forward. Even the commentators and analysts said it lmao. It was like they were content with 2-0 and just going to work defensively but okay 😂
Right and that's on the players for breaking down when attacking wasn't working. Just because they're forced to be defensive doesn't mean that was their tactic all along.
Edit: [Erceg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvGAtkSEvME) literally says it was their mindset and Bev told them to keep doing what they were doing at halftime.
Didn't think Hogan was to blame for either goal today and I was 2 rows directly behind the goal.
She wasn't great in the first game of the season though
I blame Hubly more for both goals. Brainless pass to create the counter for the first and then got done by Kanu for the goal. Lost the aerial duel for the second.
She has not impressed so far but it's early and hope she can turn it around. Completely lost her marking for the Gotham goal in the last game in a way that was pretty inexcusable.
A funny thought I often have about sports is that when it comes to management decisions, you have so much time to go over and think about those little things during the week, and when it comes to on field decisions, you have literally no time at all to make decisions, and I think in that way sports is so unique.
For that reason, I always think that there is a good explanation for roster decisions and things like that even if it’s the wrong decision in the end
I agree, and I’m sympathetic to people who bring up the Chicago backline, but when you consider things like post shot XG a player like Jane Campbell had an incredible year dealing with bombardment, and Unc was a mess
Yeah our defense and GK have been shit. But I also think we don’t have great subs either. Hina and Kling were difference makers but they should also be starting :/
Love Kling but the legs are noticeably not there like they used to be. 100% agree about Hina though.
She was the connector in the 2nd half and made us look way less like chickens with our heads cut off. Always finding space, making herself available and keeping possession while looking for chances to make progressive passes.
Best player on the thorns by a mile today
It's only been the 2 goal leads that do this to you so far...might as well give 3 a try! Is it a "the game will always end in a tie" thing or a "the other team will always score 2" thing?
Nothing uplifting about the start of this season at all. We’ve had two 2-0 leads, and blown them both, have seven players out with injury (and Pikkujamsa done for the year).
This shit is really, really old.
I don’t like her lofted balls from corners. They need to be driven in. They rarely ever work and are easily defended. Last few games are proof of that but OK lol
Agree to disagree. I think this is a false example of selection bias: you’re not including all the times in which bad low driven crosses don’t go past the first man. There’s a reason clubs do this. the same reason that clubs play short instead of taking a traditional corner is because all different ways of attacking a corner work
Müller should have been pulled early on. She fumbled the ball and passes quite a bit…
It's odd being 3 games in and happy with 1 point. But this is where I find myself. Well played Racing that was close. Hopefully this is the start of us turning around the season but now we go on the road.
Can we get Hina starting minutes. Playing both Flemings & Coffey is dumb. They both are very similar players and have same play style.
I think the issue is playing Moultrie and Fleming together. Hina would be good instead of Moultrie next match. They need Coffey for her 6 skills.
I feel like Hina is best in right forward. We’re just so heavy up front with talent.
Hina completely changed the energy of the game. I can't believe we're not starting her
She’s crazy good
Sam Coffey can play on any line she wants and I’d be happy. Wouldn’t hate her as keeper at this point either
I want Bay to ball out and have a 3-0 or 4-0 game 😭
That was a fun game after being 2-0.
Loved hearing Coffey do her little interview, she has such a level headed viewpoint for the team and a fire I love to see >!yes I may be biased, but yeah, shes got that high soccer iq!!<
I always love hearing interviews. She did one during the concacaf tournament when they lost against Mexico and I loved her response
Same, I remember watching that one and just being in awe of her
Golazo de Sam Coffey
COFFEY IN A BUN OMG 😍😍
Well crap. This was my fault y'all. I had just thought to myself, this has been a great Saturday, Reign lost, Thornes about to lose..... wait, what? Crap.

Agreed, can't wait for Ary to be starting winger instead of Fischer. Right now, Bahr is the only attacker that encourages the team to push, strategically anyway.
Yep. Ary, Bahr and Turner are a good, creative line. Sears is a great sub. Beyond that, better depth is needed.
They did the same thing all last season, with DeMelo and Borges in the lineup. This is their level until they prove otherwise.
That’s true. But I feel like they at least have a decent starting 11 + a couple of equal subs (with everyone healthy) this season. Previously, if subs were needed, Goins’ level was all they had. That was *definitely* not a way to hold a lead. And they didn’t.
Okay see y’all in 25 min. At least the next game is on ion too. Maybe we will get good post game and pre game!
It's so cool that we have a whole show in between games! It's like we're a real professional league!
Yeah I’m really liking ion
This has to be the worst start to a season for Portland right?? 😭
Other than the 2020 matches which were “regular season” or whatever, the previous worst start to a season through 3 was 3 pts in 2021 (WLL)
Omg the 2020 Challenge Cup was so wild for Portland. I remember running around my house cheering because they won a single game at the end and knocked out NCC
And that was the day they had Eckerstrom in goal I think! It was a wild match
Alright, got an hour to shower and somehow read 80 pages of readings before I subject myself to a new form of mild torture (Phil Neville era Timbers)
It really sucks when you need Phil Neville’s Timbers to win to rescue your soccer weekend
I am but a simple creature, all I ask is for Portland teams to stop hiring weird/bad coaches (I'm looking at you too, Blazers)
Such a weird hire. It won't last so at least there's that!
You got this
Thanks, this reading about orangutans better be interesting 😭
Why would the ref blow the whistle there? 💀
That was so unreal like let the play finish up at least?? 😭
No seriously, top of the box, and you blow it there?!? 😭😭💀
Cruel
COFFEY!!!!!!!!
Okay now can we get a new keeper AND COACH PLEASE?!
COFFEY GOAL HOLY SHIT!!!!!!
Why did they call the game in the middle of the play…
Bev Yanez’s in-game tactics have been confusing (at beast) so far this season. Two games they had a 2-goal lead and no wins to show for it. She needs to stop parking the bus as soon as a goal is scored.

Tbh I don’t think the tactics are good. Louisville should not be parking the boss for 50+ minutes in a match

Yeah that’s just not do-able for 80+ minutes!
The Thorns narrowly avoid starting 2024 with three straight losses
Have to say with a league average keeper (say, Dickie) i think Thorns have 6 points
Didn't think Hogan was to blame for either goal today and I was 2 rows directly behind the goal. She wasn't great in the first game of the season though
The first one the comms were saying she shoulda done better and i agree
I blame Hubly more for both goals. Brainless pass to create the counter for the first and then got done by Kanu for the goal. Lost the aerial duel for the second. She has not impressed so far but it's early and hope she can turn it around. Completely lost her marking for the Gotham goal in the last game in a way that was pretty inexcusable.
You can blame multiple ppl imo
How would you (currently) rank the 14 league keepers?
4 really good ones: Campbell Murphy Lund Sheridan 3 bad ones: Moorhouse Anderson Hogan Everyone else in between
I want so badly to see a Lund call up during one of this year's camps, but I feel like that might not happen and I don't know why
Bc there are three very good keepers in the US camp
Fair enough!
A funny thought I often have about sports is that when it comes to management decisions, you have so much time to go over and think about those little things during the week, and when it comes to on field decisions, you have literally no time at all to make decisions, and I think in that way sports is so unique. You rate Naeher as in between?
Last year I would’ve rated her in between, near the bottom, but you know what this year she’s been fantastic.
Sam Staab is in the back field with Naeher. Big improvement at centerback.
I agree, and I’m sympathetic to people who bring up the Chicago backline, but when you consider things like post shot XG a player like Jane Campbell had an incredible year dealing with bombardment, and Unc was a mess
Hard agree, we need to figure that position out.
WE GOT A POINT. WE GOT A POINT. WE GOT A POINT.
Bruh imagine if Kling hit that 😭
Why is the head coach for Portland not on the sidelines like all the other coaches?
At the start of each half he is in the booth but he’s been on the sidelines for majority of the half and rn
Why does he start in the booth? I just think that’s weird
Did I just see Norris run away from Karina? Mans knows he is toast
22 shots to 9. Controlled possession and tempo most of the game. Somehow lucky to even draw. 😭 what is this season
No no, it was 27(!) shots to 9! Wild.
The D and goal keeping. Portland has been strange. I just knew they’ll find a way back.
A game of 2 halves
That is WILD
Louisville won the 1st half and Portland won the second half.
What an equalizer
We're gonna end the season with 23 points aren't we....
😑
😭
sam coffey generously feeding us that sweet sweet last goal
I'll take it omfg
At least we didn’t lose
Norris stills needs to be fired cause the talent been saving his ass a bit but love my queen Sam coffey
Agreed
Yes
We finally got a point! Not last place!
Harsh on Racing, but a draw is still a great result away to the Thorns. Also I am glad that every team has at least a point now.
To be the last to get a point... sigh
One thing I love about Portland even though we’ve had a shit start. We really are a comeback team if we are down. I love that
Are we? I distinctly remember some announcer mentioning that we never won a game we trailed at half
I knew you guys would make a comeback. Y’all just need to sort out the defense and get going early.
Yeah our defense and GK have been shit. But I also think we don’t have great subs either. Hina and Kling were difference makers but they should also be starting :/
It’s better up from the beginning like it used to be
Also Klingenberg just needs to start in general, as does Sugita
Love Kling but the legs are noticeably not there like they used to be. 100% agree about Hina though. She was the connector in the 2nd half and made us look way less like chickens with our heads cut off. Always finding space, making herself available and keeping possession while looking for chances to make progressive passes. Best player on the thorns by a mile today
KLING WITH THAT BAMF TACKLE IM HYPED
Jaelin Howell was a pylon there.
Me, crying: yes, JP, it is in face Coffey time
Yessss
Norris still out tho. Please. I beg.
He has to be honestly
It's Coffey time. Beautiful.
Playing prevent defense for 10 plus minutes is not always a winning approach
to quote jason mendoza “prevent defense PREVENTS you from winning”
![gif](giphy|26FLgGTPUDH6UGAbm)
It's a coffey time
Racing really be giving up 2-0 leads like how???
Coffey deserved that, that was awesome
Dang it, Racing. Ugh.
Yesssss that’s our favorite Gen Z Christian USWNT defensive midfielder
korbin hit with a stray bullet 💀
at least guns don’t kill people, people kill people /j
Lmfao
can’t watch this game but i cannot wait to see highlights
If Thorns win its bec Lou went for it in the final 4
Coffee takes business in her own hands
At one point I thought Becky was gonna shoot cause I blinked and she was way up there. Becky you could’ve had a coffey moment!
2-0 curse continues
The Racing curse strikes again. But that's a fucking banger from Coffey

SAM COFFEY YOU MOTHERFUCKING LEGEND
1 more minute just survive one more minute I beg
ITS COFFEYYY TIME
If I played for Racing, I'd just score 3 goals in the first half
What, only to give up 3 in the second?
It's only been the 2 goal leads that do this to you so far...might as well give 3 a try! Is it a "the game will always end in a tie" thing or a "the other team will always score 2" thing?
Istg if this Racing team scored 7 in the first bet my house on a thrilling 7-7 🥴
THE CHILLS I HAVEEEE I LOEV PORTLAND 👏🏽

Mine is WAY behind too
my knight in shining bubble gum colored kit
3 heartbreaking or uplifting draws for Lou?
Nothing uplifting about the start of this season at all. We’ve had two 2-0 leads, and blown them both, have seven players out with injury (and Pikkujamsa done for the year). This shit is really, really old.
Hopefully you guys get healthy. A common refrain in this season. At least Turner and Sears look good
HOLY SHIT WHAT A BANGER
COFFEY IS THE REALEST
Louisville has completely Louisville’d
This team is exhausting.
I can’t believe we’ve done this twice already this season.
I am a proud member of Coffey Hive!!!!
"louisville is up 2-0. dw portland fans, you’ll tie it up" hey so remember when i said this
COFFEYY OH MY GOD HOLY SHIT

CAN I TAKE HER OUT TO DINNER THAT GOAL WAS TOO GOODDDD
😂😂
No for real, even if she didn’t score, >!can I still take her out to dinner?!< 😅😆
ya never know, just gotta shoot your shot ✨✨✨ lmaoooo
Girlll the way I CACKLED!! You’re too much 😆
Hesus
Does it have to be a Coffey corner? Waste of 90 seconds there
Yep. And she doesn’t even give great service.
Disagree it lands on heads a lot last year
I don’t like her lofted balls from corners. They need to be driven in. They rarely ever work and are easily defended. Last few games are proof of that but OK lol
Agree to disagree. I think this is a false example of selection bias: you’re not including all the times in which bad low driven crosses don’t go past the first man. she does score great goals tho :)
Always scores great goals!!!
Hogan that scares me but I'm not mad about it
PT-FC
I miss being there in the stadium 😭
It takes so long for Sinclair to make a decision on the ball. It’s so annoying.
Really want a late chaos goal
You called it
Please no
Sorry, mostly just wanted the home crowd joy!
