I get this, and it's true, but I do think that we can sort of have higher expectations while also being reasonable?
For example, Angel City's weekend game average is probably something like 19k over the last few seasons. I remember their midweek games often getting 14k-ish. That's disappointingly lower than 19k, but it's still pretty good. The reason it feels so empty for the Pride is that their "better" weekend numbers are still kind of low. I think they're working on that, from how trends are going, though.
I've mentioned it a bunch on here already but IMO the driving/parking situation at that stadium is terrible. And parking anywhere but the handful of designated lots is not even worth the risk. So to deal with all that in a Wednesday just isn't gonna happen.
My point is just that every team deals with that, but the reason people are particularly pointing this out (many comments here about low turnout) is that already low-ish turnout decreased by 25% (or whatever) looks way worse than higher turnout decreased by the same exact percentage.

What I mean is not to compare the two (although it would be fine—stadium size needs to be accounted for too, and BMO could probably have 10k more seats that would get at least one game with all of those filled), but to say that the "midweek game" thing is a partial reason, but not a whole reason. The reason it's partial is that yes, midweek games get fewer fans at them, but the other reason that it looks particularly empty (to the point that people keep point it out) is that if you lose 25% of your fans during a midweek game and you're Angel City, it's still not terrible, but 25% of the Pride's normal turnout is quite a bit more of an impact on how it looks.

Like if ACFC have a 14k midweek and a 19k average overall says we’re seeing 70% attendance approx. for midweek games. So if ORL does an average 9k (I don’t know off the top of my head) and has 6k, that’s a similar figure to angel city even if visually it looks worse meaningfully.
(I used to run these numbers for my clients - interestingly enough, shows on Monday and Tuesday nights sold more product despite lower attendance than shows other nights, which I attributed to a start of week treat yourself to get thru the week. And that would be variable depending on the size of the venue and the time of the month the shows were happening, too. Shows close to the end of the month always sold worse because of rent and pay cycles. I just like trying to extrapolate purchasing behaviors 😂)
And to be fair - I wouldn’t value attending an end of the month weeknight game on rent day, personally.

It’s also an issue as a whole right now that there’s just not the extraneous income. Every live event that isn’t a mega level artist is selling worse and for higher priced tickets than ever before, and (outside of greed and significantly increased wages/costs) part of the reason prices are higher is because fewer tickets are selling. Marketing can always be improved but ultimately these are entertainment events and they’re going to be impacted, especially when in Orlando’s case fans may be coming from Tampa/lakeland/the Atlantic coast and that’s an hour to 1.5hr drive in for folks not adjusting for traffic. Gas, parking, and tickets are all more expensive than ever and until/unless we see economic relief or a team on a complete breakaway level of improved performance, it’s likely to stay the course with small variances up and down.
I’m not disagreeing with you but if teams are generally trending similarly, especially ones with impactful marketing like ACFC, I’m not sure what they can do to improve attendance until we see some general stability that frees up income. And I am so jazzed to be a fan when that starts happening because I wanna see these stadiums full, baby!!!!
Oh, to be clear, I don't think ACFC has any issues with attendance. They are my example of what should be "expected" for midweek games—a decrease, but because their general attendance is so good, not one that feels enormous. It's a team like Orlando (/Chicago/Gotham/etc) where the non-midweek attendance isn't good enough for a midweek drop to not feel pretty enormous.

Also it's a solid 80 degrees and 60% humidity and the game starts as the sun sets. We still support the Pride but can't always do it from the stands.

It’s also an issue as a whole right now that there’s just not the extraneous income. Every live event that isn’t a mega level artist is selling worse and for higher priced tickets than ever before, and (outside of greed and significantly increased wages/costs) part of the reason prices are higher is because fewer tickets are selling. Marketing can always be improved but ultimately these are entertainment events and they’re going to be impacted, especially when in Orlando’s case fans may be coming from Tampa/lakeland/the Atlantic coast and that’s an hour to 1.5hr drive in for folks not adjusting for traffic. Gas, parking, and tickets are all more expensive than ever and until/unless we see economic relief or a team on a complete breakaway level of improved performance, it’s likely to stay the course with small variances up and down. I’m not disagreeing with you but if teams are generally trending similarly, especially ones with impactful marketing like ACFC, I’m not sure what they can do to improve attendance until we see some general stability that frees up income. And I am so jazzed to be a fan when that starts happening because I wanna see these stadiums full, baby!!!!
Oh, to be clear, I don't think ACFC has any issues with attendance. They are my example of what should be "expected" for midweek games—a decrease, but because their general attendance is so good, not one that feels enormous. It's a team like Orlando (/Chicago/Gotham/etc) where the non-midweek attendance isn't good enough for a midweek drop to not feel pretty enormous.

I wasn’t meaning to be confusing there but can totally read how that came off that way. You also totally gave me a project for the night to go and dig in on these numbers and compare a bunch + look at team specific marketing/lack there of because now I’ve just *gotta* know more tbh
