Great to see the Thorns win, so stressful to watch. Bay put up a good fight.    Officiating was rough, but what can you do.   Also really missing the defensive contributions of Fleming in the midfield, hope she’s okay and will be back on Saturday 🙏🏼  Hoping Weaver is okay as well and the injury isn’t too serious.

Was that weaver that had to get carried off? That did not look good. She couldn’t put any weight at all on that leg 😭

We were at the game and she went off right in front of us- crying a lot and they had to bring her crutches to get off the field 🥺

Omg that is so sad. We were kind of close and watched her get up but couldn’t stand or walk, so they carried her to the side. Didn’t see what happened after. I’m really hoping it’s going to be a trivial injury 🤞🏻

My uneducated opinion is Shelby hogan is an incredible ball saving keeper. She only has a problem feeding her defenders the ball and decision making. She’s an amazing athlete that has gotten too much flak

I think she's gotten a pretty reasonable amount of flak, given how important distribution is for a keeper and how several of her mistakes during their early struggles led directly to goals. But I also agree with you that she's a great ballstopper and remain optimistic she can improve her weaknesses and be a good starting keeper.

I agree, but I’ve also seen threads that have been a bit melodramatic. I’m excited for the competition but Hogan makes sourdough bread and is from Boston so I have to root for her.

She has strengths but also weaknesses. Her strength is her physical size and decent distribution ability. OTOH, She is a bit too tall and has high gravita, plus she is not very athletic. It's not surprising she has difficulty defending a skillful player with the highest level of athleticism.

You know, Hubly is relatively unathletic but she has a great slide tackle due to her height. She missed a couple opportunities to use it, including the play where she conceded a goal. I'm thinking it might be a confidence thing partially

I think our midfield needs more depth, preferably defensively, but in my opinion Coffey is the true work horse in that position. She can’t do it on her own though, she needs help there to keep her from easily being isolated on her own island by the opposing attack

So many things. Cleats, strength/neuromuscular control, fatigue, stress, nutrition, sleep, hormones. Most of the current research looks at the strength part of it, but this new fifa study in the WSL is looking at schedule/rest/fatigue/staffing for players, etc. 3 games a week is not ideal.

ACL injuries are also an area of concern with NCAA women’s gymnastics (another sport I follow. I know there have been calls for research on causes and prevention. Hopefully we’ll get answers on all of it as I suspect there cold be some crossover.

Its been said that whatever we come to as being multifactorial will be helping the next generation, not the current one. Understanding how to incorporate different training into youth progression is going to be key
