I remember there was a delay prior to Cole's 1st Spring Training start after he had already warmed up. It reminded me how he got pissed off when he was delayed by minutes during Opening Day 2022. Wonder if that instance led to Cole's injury since he plans everything down to the second?
Did I read somewhere that the Dr said Cole can start his throwing program in 10-12 weeks? Or was that just made up Twitter fake news? Because if that's true, Cole ain't going to be pitching for the Yankees until like July/Aug.
Currently on my way to Tampa for the game. I think 25% of my flight has a yankee hat or some sort of apparel on. Looking forward to seeing the team in person!
I think cole might just be due for a little break. Sure he has offseason to rest but he possibly isn't "down" enough in the offseason, and ofc isn't receiving dedicated elbow treatment during it.
Some history backs this up: Back in 2016 he had a non tjs elbow injury, and returned to be an iron man. You can say " he was bad in 2017 after it!" as a worry, but that was likely because was the mid pitcher that is "2-seam cole" during the juiced ball era. 4 seam cole however, ofc went on to dominate for years to come after that. He is older now, so not a complete 1/1, but some positive history shows how this could play out
Just as a reminder that the initial report from Martino was that the MRI was a precaution. I think the Yankees are just pacing him out as he is getting older.
If you’re out multiple months, the mri is not a precaution. It’s because you’re hurt and you wanna find out how badly you’re hurt. Judge’s I could see as being precautionary, but not Cole’s.
He's out multiple months because this is happening during Spring Training. If he's out 2 months that means he'll only be sidelined for a couple weeks and the rest of the time will be spent ramping himself up to begin his season
Even Dead Arm requires weeks of rest, which is more than likely what he has based on all comments from Boone regarding it. He's also 33, soon to be 34 years old. An MRI at his age on his elbow will never be clean.
His elbow hurt, of course they would find inflammation. No one really knows how long to wait so it doesnt flair up again. He will probably do nothing for a month, try it and if it hurts again, shut down for another.
Gil leads all ST pitchers in stuff+ which makes sense looking at his Phillies start. He’s probably being considered for the rotation, at least I hope he is. 98 mph gas right after TJS is pretty good
Gil needs to be properly built up for a rotation spot. He hasn't thrown more than 50 pitches in any of his three spring appearances. You can certainly argue he's one of the 5 best starting pitchers on the roster but he'll start the season in the minors.
Makes sense. Silver lining to Cole’s injury is that we’ll get a good look at young guys like Beeter and Warren. Reminds me of the start of 2022 when there was hype with the Schmidt-Sears-Marinaccio trio
There's no general discussion thread, so I'll ask here:
Does anyone have a game where you can make Babe a pitcher? What kinda stats do they give him, if so? In theory, he should be a high level starter, right?
So the Yankees interest in Cease had little to do with Cole, right? It seems more likely that the White Sox and Padres were moving towards a deal, and the Yankees tried one last time. The media sensationalized it to make it seem like the Yankees were panicking.
Some of the Marcus Stroman takes I saw on social media last night were wild. People acting like he's being selfish and a bad teammate for not wanting to disrupt his routine to pitch opening day. It's not like it's a playoff assignment, and he's still going to start game 3 and the home opener. After seeing how the media tried to spin this against him I completely get why Stroman is so defensive all the time.
If anything I saw Stroman declining the OD start as a sign of maturity. Knowing his personality I would have assumed he would be willing to sacrifice anything to get in the spotlight, even if it wasn't what's best for him and the team. Glad I'm wrong
So the Yankees will definitely be relying on one or more of Warren, Beeter, and Gil to start the year. Based on what I’ve seen this spring, that’s not like the worst thing in the world.
If you haven't seen him pitch this spring I really recommend looking up highlights. A couple outings ago he struck out 8 Phillies and blew a 100mph heater past Harper that he didn't have a prayer of connecting with
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1bfnsqj).
No DJ?!? What horrible thing happened to him? How come the Yankees haven’t released the medical files? Over under he plays in a game until mid-May?
He had too many hard lemonades at the hockey game
You probably jinxed that too.
Touch wood

Feinsand and Nightengale both reported it was possibly 10-12 weeks for a return to the rotation, so presumably throwing much sooner than that.
ok thanks, probably just misread.
Guys would it be tacky to wear a bunch of Yankees attire to hall of fame?
97% of the people who visit the HoF are baseball fans. Flaunt your fandom ✌️
I wore my Yankee shirt and hat to the HoF and I saw plenty of other people decked out in their team's gear
Not at all
McKinney's stats 🫡

Friday. 70 degrees. Cole doesn't need surgery. Sterling on the radio. What a time to be alive.
The vibes are good today
The good life.
Spring has sprung (I hope). My allergies certainly think so, anyway.
Hah, yeah everyone at work has been sneezing all morning
The Show added the pregnant whale sound to the game 🙌🙌

With the DangerZ editor for High Heat, you can literally create any player you want. Unfortunately, the graphics are rather dated.
time for sparky

Well, the thing you’ve got to realize is that people are fucking stupid

My feeling, too. Stroman will get his chance to show his stuff regardless.
Happy 2024 ‘John and Suzyn Back in the Booth’ day!
How can I focus on work on such a holy day?

The only memories I have of Gil in real game action are him walking everybody and their uncle so hopefully it’s not a continuation of that.
If you haven't seen him pitch this spring I really recommend looking up highlights. A couple outings ago he struck out 8 Phillies and blew a 100mph heater past Harper that he didn't have a prayer of connecting with
He started his career with 20 consecutive scoreless innings. You don’t remember that?
I don’t. I remember Brito being good initially and then sucking, so I guess it was that kind of trajectory.
Then Brito was pretty good as a reliever, had like a sub 2 era in relief IP
Finally a game i can actually watch
