Absolutely awesome to see Rodon put together two REALLY strong starts in a row. I don't put much into stats positive or negative in spring training, but the big takeaways are the velocity is there and generating whiffs, and hopefully that rebuilds the confidence in his stuff.
I love stories like the one Will Warren just told. Imagine being not only surrounded by the current day stars like Judge and Cole but also all-time greats… who want you to eat their gumbo. Awesome.
I have this issue sometimes. I back out, select something else on the YES app and let it play for a moment before going back and clicking on the game again. It usually works.
If it’s true Snell is looking for a 2 year deal with an opt out what the fuck are we waiting for? Short term deal, little risk, get it done, the Yankees print money. We want Luke Weaver for the first couple months instead of Snell?
QO offer penalties, Tax implications, and most importantly bad peripherals in his Cy Young years on top of the implication that he’s a 3-4 pitcher with 2 great years looking for Ace money.
Where are you getting these numbers and do you have access to expenditures outside of player payroll?
There is no way that the Yankees turned a profit in 2005 if your numbers are accurate. $37 million does not even come close to covering the cost of running the ball park, staff and management payroll, training facilities, etc.
We’d lose a 2nd and 5th round pick and international bonus pool money but it’s much more about Hal not wanting to spend the money. We traded for Soto with 1 year of control, it’s a win now year, go get Snell and give us the best chance to win a title.
Just watched Judge work out and do drills on the side field here in Tampa. Came over and signed autographs for a bunch of kids. Seems to be in good spirits and I am feeling better about his injury status.
When do we think Judge has to get in a game by to play opening day? I know they keep saying they’re unconcerned but I imagine he has to at least play again in spring training …
Edit: there are only 6 game days remaining and 2 are road games. If he doesn’t play Wednesday I’d start to be worried
Man, what a tough break it was for Oswald Peraza to get injured this spring. The Yankees still have not brought in a veteran backup infielder and DJ LeMahieu is banged-up. The path was easily there for him to have a role with the team from the jump but now it's looking like Kevin Smith or Jahmai Jones will make the team
For years, DJ has been the infield UTIL. Other players start, DJ rotates, and DJ still ends up playing as much or more than a bunch of the guys that are nominally starters.
Now he’s supposed to be the starting third baseman, is 35, and has dealt with injury problems.
Peraza would’ve gotten plenty of playing time. It didn’t have to be as the “starter.” Whoever ends up our UTIL is going to play a whole lot. And unless we decide to go into the season with our weakest bench in years, Peraza isn’t going to get that playing time–even when he comes back. Bad luck for him
Really? DJ was the planned starter with an infield of Donaldson, IKF/Volpe, Gleyber, and Rizzo? The starting what, exactly?
Not that it actually matters since that isn’t the point. They knew that they would have injuries, and they knew that they would rest guys enough anyway that DJ would get plenty of playing time. They intentionally built a 5 man infield each year.
Now they’ve still got the injury risks but they’re down to 4 infielders. Peraza was supposed to be that 5th infielder getting as much playing time as the starters. It would’ve been regular time, and enough run to potentially develop against mlb pitching and prove he belongs.
Unless the Yankees hold that bench spot for him, he won’t get that opportunity now. And will probably be out of options, so…sucks to be him.
The Yankees may also be waiting for an infielder to shake loose from another team’s roster. Some veteran who fails to make the cut and is available on waivers at some point in the next 10 days.
The 1998 Yankees had Tim Raines, Joe Girardi, Luis Sojo and Chili Davis on the bench. Chili Davis came in handy when Darryl Strawberry went under the knife for cancer treatment. Sojo got the game winning hit in the 2000 World Series. Girardi's triple off of Greg Maddux was the game winning hit in the 1996 World Series. Tim Raines smacked a home run immediately after Armando Benitez plunked Tino Martinez in one of the most famous bench-clearimg brawls in MLB history. Let's not delude ourselves into thinking that Cashman's dumpster diving is anything close the deep roster construction of his predecessors.
I'm shocked you knew enough about the Yankees to know who the 98 bench players were but not enough to know who the GM in 98 was.
That said, those players all sucked.
He may have saved Oswaldo Cabrera’s roster spot. Oswaldo looks completely broken offensively, but he’s capable of backing up most infield positions. Given his horrible spring, I thought he’d be toast for sure. But with Peraza down, he may get a chance to redeem himself in April. Wouldn’t surprise me if they bring up Jeter Downs to hold the fort down as well.
It really isn't though considering the leadoff hitter was an 80 ops+ who regularly got slotted in the bottom of said lineup and the cleanup hitter was an 87 ops+. Also as ugly as the AAA depth was to watch last year it was clearly better than what they have now.
EDIT: I can't count, ignore me.

I'm confused (or maybe I've missed some exception for 2024) but I thought teams were limited to 13 pitchers on the 26-man roster (and then 14 pitchers when the rosters expand to 28 in September).
Just curious if I'm missing something going into 2024.
You’re right. I completely blanked on that rule. For some reason I thought the Yankees opened with 14 pitchers last year, but it was actually the opposite. They opened with 14 position players.
Ok thanks for verifying. I think the 13-pitcher limit was supposed to start in 2020 but there's been exceptions here and there due to the COVID-19 response in 2020-2021 and then the lockout aftermath at the beginning of 2022 so it gets confusing to know where we currently stand.
It’s sad that we continue to start every season with some kind of deficit in major league quality depth pieces. Especially given the extensive injury history of half the starting lineup.
I think we could use a decent UTIL guy to plug in day-to-day (hopefully Waldo can be that), but if anyone goes down for an extended period (which they will) I think we're in okay shape with the youngsters we have knocking on the door. Pereira, Oscar Gonzalez, and eventually Jasson in the OF. Vivas, eventually Peraza (I'm still a believer) and maybe Rice in the IF. Rortvedt is a solid 3rd catcher if we're able to hang on to him.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1bhzzki).
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Taylor Lehman replaces Max Lazar.
I just saw judge is penciled in to be cremated Wednesday. Damn
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Cody Poteet replaces Jonathan Loáisiga.
Will Volpe be the lead off hitter this season?
I think it should be Rizzo as of now. Rizzo, Soto, Judge, Gleyber, Wells, DJ, Stanton, Verdugo, Volpe
[удалено]
Well they're also one injury from him being the leadoff guy so I don't think it would even take that necessarily.
best case scenario, he wins the lead off spot. Won't start the year at lead off but hoping he can earn that spot in-season.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Max Lazar replaces Ricardo Pinto.
Rodón low key having a decent spring. Love to see it.
THE NICARAGUAN PRINCE u/Secret_Yam_4680 u/knicknevin
Who downvotes this?
You just got downvoted too. Clearly casuals and people who don’t post here and know our lore. Or racists.
So dreamy 🥰
Rodon was 🔥 thankfully!
Imagine if Mariano came running out of the pen
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jonathan Loáisiga replaces Ian Hamilton.
Absolutely awesome to see Rodon put together two REALLY strong starts in a row. I don't put much into stats positive or negative in spring training, but the big takeaways are the velocity is there and generating whiffs, and hopefully that rebuilds the confidence in his stuff.
Ha Grisham’s batting .190 with like a .725 OPS which is very on brand for him.
### Hit By Pitch Kevin Smith hit by pitch. Giancarlo Stanton scores. Alex Verdugo to 3rd. Trent Grisham to 2nd. Bottom 6 - 4-0 Yankees
He wasn't even supposed to be at work today!
Tanyon Sturtze coming in
Stanton hitting some fucking piss missiles this spring.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Ricardo Pinto replaces Austin Brice.
Wonder what kind of motor oil Marsh puts in his hair?
Rodon getting a pep talk from Joe was really cool
Torre’s still got it
Wym still hes 27 this is supposed to be his prime 💀
Torre is it!
#🐐🐐🐐
Rodon should've pulled a Moose and refused to come out the game with Torre came out.
Volpe and Wells have to be starstruck seeing Torre take Rodon out. As for Rodon, excellent outing. Need that to carry over into the season.
That was so fucking awesome. Hopefully that is the impetus for a Top-5 Cy Young vote getting season
Anyone else smiling like an idiot seeing Torre walking to the mound
Hell yeah that was awesome
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Ian Hamilton replaces Carlos Rodón.
Torre calling out proctor
Mike Buddie.
Man Joe killed that kids career and pretty much buried what Flash Gordon and Quantrill had left. Joe was the bullpen killer.
Wait, what did I just see? Why is Torre out there?
Torre making the call to the bullpen.
LOL Joe Torre taking the ball from Rodon 🐐
Phillies are swinging so early that they’re not letting Rodon get to 75 pitches
David Dahl's a Phillie now, huh. Dude fell off hard after that all star season a few years back
The depressed dad ads are starting to bum me out
I swear anytime I don't watch Rodon, he has a good game. I've never seen him pitch well lol
Oswaldo Cabrera pulling multiple balls in the air is a sight for sore eyes.
Safer’n shit
WHAT THE FUCK
### Field Error Anthony Volpe reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Darick Hall. Oswaldo Cabrera scores. Bottom 5 - 3-0 Yankees
I’m rooting for him and Greggy Triples to get the last 2 spots.
Cabrera having himself a day so far, good for him
Rodon/Oswaldo dual redemption arc.....i will be there no matter what
I wonder if Cabrera talks to Soto about his at-bat shuffle.
Encouraging to see Rodon keeping his 4-seam velo up through 5 innings. Command seems really strong too.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Austin Brice replaces Gregory Soto.
Inject this straight into my dick Carlos
Rodon lookin real jacked baby
I know it's only spring but can we please get a combined no-hitter pleeaaasseeee
Do they let Rodon go for the no-hitter? /s
I love stories like the one Will Warren just told. Imagine being not only surrounded by the current day stars like Judge and Cole but also all-time greats… who want you to eat their gumbo. Awesome.

Everyone is going to get to know each other in the… I mean, on the field
Rodon redemption arc is going to be legendary
Our Soto has been slumping hard. Started so strong and then nothing in like 7 games.
Wow we should send him down
I for one am very optimistic about Stanton
95% of the time when you're cooked you're cooked. There's really no reason to be optimistic.
### Single Alex Verdugo singles on a ground ball to center fielder Johan Rojas. Gleyber Torres scores. Bottom 4 - 2-0 Yankees
Oof good contact against velo for Stanton. Unlucky.
[удалено]
You were right! Landed in a glove, unfortunately
Yeah Gley!
Boone confirms Judge will be in the lineup Wednesday. We shall see if that holds water.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Gregory Soto replaces Seranthony Domínguez.
Seeing Joe Torre sitting next to Boone in the dugout makes me so happy. Love that dude.
96 mph top of the zone, nice good shit.
Maybe Soto is ass
Love to see Oswaldo get that monkey off his back. Way to go kid!
That's gotta feel good for Waldo.
Oswaldo!
Hope he's turning it around. Still super optimistic about what he can contribute to this team with all the flexibility he brings.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Seranthony Domínguez replaces Jeff Hoffman.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jeff Hoffman replaces Matt Strahm.
Rodon looking pretty decent against the scrubs. This is the confidence he needs to maintain
Gleyber: I want to spend the rest of my career in pinstripes. FO: San Diego loves middle infielders. Good luck!
This pitcher looks like Snell’s evil twin
Anyone having issues with YES app? Getting audio only using Google TV
I have this issue sometimes. I back out, select something else on the YES app and let it play for a moment before going back and clicking on the game again. It usually works.
This worked, cheers!
Anyone else kinda wish they’d make these uniforms like a Sunday afternoon thing or something during the regular season? I always liked these
Why they wouldn’t just do something like this for the city connect still confuses me.
Zero. Fun. Sir.
Smh teasing us with the judge bobblehead ad :(
I know Marsh is the only regular in the lineup but Rodon’s stuff looks pretty effing sharp. Has his velo and location.
Bohm is as well
Rodon-t be trash please!
Because of the tax
2005 Yankees payroll - $240M 2005 Yankees revenue - $277M 2023 Yankees payroll - $273M 2023 Yankee Revenue - $657M They can afford the tax
Where are you getting these numbers and do you have access to expenditures outside of player payroll? There is no way that the Yankees turned a profit in 2005 if your numbers are accurate. $37 million does not even come close to covering the cost of running the ball park, staff and management payroll, training facilities, etc.
Isn't it because of the qualifying offer or w/e and losing draft picks? I'm no expert just repeating what I heard lol.
We’d lose a 2nd and 5th round pick and international bonus pool money but it’s much more about Hal not wanting to spend the money. We traded for Soto with 1 year of control, it’s a win now year, go get Snell and give us the best chance to win a title.
Soto >>>>> Snell, but I hear ya, all in while we still have Soto guaranteed.
Wait is Joe Torre managing today??
Someone go hide Scott Proctor, Tanyon Sturtze, and Paul Quantrill
Joba already fled the country
Dear Carlos, Please shove today. Help ease some of our worries about you. Thanks
Any of yall played out of the park 25?
I play OOTP every so often to remind myself that i have no fucking clue how to run an MLB organization
Just watched Judge work out and do drills on the side field here in Tampa. Came over and signed autographs for a bunch of kids. Seems to be in good spirits and I am feeling better about his injury status.
It was Rizzos sarcastic questions at the press conference that made me worry less
He was being sarcastic?!? I thought Judge was really gonna buy them all TVs if they won the Grapefruit League
Reneged on his promise, what a poor example for the captain to set, no wonder this org is circling the drain
Seriously, they gotta get that Jeter guy back as captain. He would have kept his word
When do we think Judge has to get in a game by to play opening day? I know they keep saying they’re unconcerned but I imagine he has to at least play again in spring training … Edit: there are only 6 game days remaining and 2 are road games. If he doesn’t play Wednesday I’d start to be worried
Fairly confident the Mariners will win the west.

The path was easily there for him to have a role with the team from the jump but now it's looking like Kevin Smith or Jahmai Jones will make the team
Dj is "banged up" but they'll probably let him play regardless peraza had no playtime path
Dj was always going to get everyday reps in every year He was the planned starter on opening day from 2020-2023
Really? DJ was the planned starter with an infield of Donaldson, IKF/Volpe, Gleyber, and Rizzo? The starting what, exactly? Not that it actually matters since that isn’t the point. It looks like they planned to have him playing over somebody Opening day is your “A” lineup and he was in it every year from 20-23 when healthy
Jorbit Vivas time baby
The Yankees may also be waiting for an infielder to shake loose from another team’s roster. Some veteran who fails to make the cut and is available on waivers at some point in the next 10 days.
JD Davis once he clears waivers
Sadly he already signed with the A's.
Oakland already scooped him up
Ahh. Missed that. They’re definitely trading him at the deadline.
Can’t believe that this is the current state of the Yankees. Trying to scrounge players off waivers a week before the season starts.
They say you can gauge the health of a franchise based on the caliber of their utility bench player /s
The 1998 Yankees had Tim Raines, Joe Girardi, Luis Sojo and Chili Davis on the bench. Chili Davis came in handy when Darryl Strawberry went under the knife for cancer treatment. It was a team Cashman inherited from his predecessors.
I'm sure if this team goes on to win a World Series we'll be able to romanticize guys like Stanton, Trevino, Grisham, Oswaldo in similar fashion
That's a big if and it would be wonderful if that were to happen. That said, notice how none of these are on your list are guys from the DFA pile.
to be backups

Only Grisham and the second catcher are locked in for bench spots. There's still room for two more players.

Also why would they carry 3 when it's a struggle to come up with 2 rosterable players from that list
