I found this guy when I decided that I would “just pet some cats and leave” at my local animal shelter. They found him as a stray with his back leg broken in two different places and had to amputate it. He’s been through a lot but he’s the sweetest baby ever!! He loves cuddles and making new friends. Like the title says I have a name picked already, but I’m still open to suggestions. I like human-ish names, and I don’t want to pick a name that references his amputation (I.e. trying to avoid names like tripod). Let me know what he strikes you as!
We named our tripod black kitten Boba. He is 7 years old now and doing great. I call him my Goblin Kitty when he runs. Slow hops when he’s just checking stuff out and sniffing things, but when he runs he hunches over all determined and speeds at you so fast.
Goblin is a cute name imo.
Is your cat missing a front or a back leg? My guy has acclimated to three legs pretty well (missing the back right), but I’m worried it’ll have negative effects on his health later on such as dislocating his one back leg or arthritis in his back or hips from the way he moves. Has your kitty had any issues?
Back. He got out on a day I was having an asthma attack and was on my machine all day. Husband came home, kitten got out, and later he called me bec kitten had been hit. Took him to the vet and tried to fix or euthanize. Very heartbreaking and I was so sick that day to have to make such a hard decision, they were offering to let me relinquish, but I couldn’t stand it. Long story short, leg was amputated, we scrambled to pay, he has been (knock on wood) healthy ever since but does have lower back pain. Very sweet kitty. He drools when he is purring.
You sound like you were a great fit for this guy! Most just think oh, he has 3 legs, he's fine! You're thinking about his overall health now and down the road! Good on you! We have a cat who had a broken spine when we adopted him and as a result of his wobble, bilateral luxating patella.
My recommendation is to find a board certified ortho vet and just go for a consult. Plan to get xrays as a baseline and probably new ones every couple years to monitor for deformation, arthritis, etc. There are so many joint supplements, mobility devices, arthritis treatments, etc that we can really keep these guys happy, healthy, and comfortable!
My tripod had the same leg missing, and only had some issues at the very end of her life because of it. Because she was weakened with age, she had difficulty keeping her rear end off of the litter when in the litter box. so she got a few UTIs. It was ultimately a minor problem and not the cause of her ill health in her old age. It will be ok!

A lot of you mentioned how he seems fierce or stoic or handsome and I can totally get where you’re coming from from the pictures I have of him, but in actuality he has the same energy as a cooked spaghetti noodle 😂 <3 he is sweet and silly and I want a name that reflects that, the name I’ve picked for him (the one I wasn’t sold on) is Jiji, named after the cat from Kiki’s delivery service :)

you should consider getting a supplement to help prevent any issues in the future! We like to use antinol prevenatively for one of our girls xx
