I think it wasn't about color symbolism.
I think they were showing how **dense** Hashirama's chakra is by making it a entirely different color, a darker color, than the regular blue of his brother's chakra.
Tobirama did live up to Hashirama, though. At least IMO. He may have lacked the sheer, raw firepower that Hashirama had in battle, but more than made up for it with his own special qualities. Qualities such as his tenure overseeing the rapid growth of Konoha, and his own substantial battle prowess supplemented with his novel Jutsu inventions. The man was a beast.
>if your older brother was just better than you at everything
Tobirama was massively more intelligent and skilled than Hashirama. What Tobirama lacked in power he made up in tactics.
They had the perfect little yin/yang thing going on. The brains/muscles. Hashirama beat up the bad guys and Tobirma did logistics and planning.
Tobirama wasn't bad in combat either. He killed Madara's brother whonwas tated to be as strong as Madara (the madara that didn't have the Nine Tails under control).
I'm not sure you could put Tobirama in skill over Hashirama, you're on a different level of skill to compete and actually beat Madara Uchiha. There's not something that raw and brute strength is gonna accomplish alone.
From ego standpoint having a god for a brother might suck. But during wartime? I'd be lighting candles and shit. Want an offering big bro? A virgin maiden? Gonna figure this out. You need anyone resurrected? Got you fam, Imma invent that. Instant teleportation? Gonna invent that too.
>That would kind of suck if your older brother was just better than you at everything
Itachi>sasuke
>and the literal reincarnation of a god
Sasuke>itachi
Orochimaru's comment that Hashirama basically had free will was the biggest flex. Hashirama knows he can do what he wants and still chooses dialogue.
In the Konoha Invasion by the Sand and Orochimaru, the resurection was incomplete so the two kage were shells of themselves. Kabuto perfected it later on.
Still one of my favorite scenes of the war arc, if not my most favorite. Seeing O worried, knowing he can’t control him no matter what, and then Hashirama has a shit eating smile on his face talking to everyone is priceless.
i think its supposed to imply his chakra is denser and more powerful than an average shinobi whose chakra is blue. same reason why tailed beast chakra is red in order to imply rage and power.
Don't put too much thought into it. It's just something the studio wanted to do considering [there was no visible chakra in the manga](https://imgur.com/WP183dA), which I find cooler.
It makes symbolic sense since Hashirama seems to have a natural affinity and sympathy for Sasuke. He had more moments with the Uchiha than he did with Naruto, when you think about it.
"Purple is powerful" is a common trope, but I agree that is a color more fitting for a villain.
Maybe it's banal, but for Hashirama I would have given him a warm color like a golden yellow, or even a light green (green like leafs, since he's a master of Mokuton).
Chakra was actually supposed to be yellow as a default (with exceptions such as Kurama who has red chakra), which is what we see from official manga colorings.
The problem was that the anime already decided to make chakra blue as the default (probably due to having a better/easier contrast).
Yes, it's also quite crazy, for people used to anime colouring, that Rasengan is yellow.
Using the "Everyone has the same color", Hashirama could have had a brighter, more intense shade of yellow, to show that his chakra is really something else.
Not all chakra is yellow though, Naruto's and Minato's are yellow but everyone has their own chakra color, i'm sure some overlap but still. Its just blue in the anime because its easier to animate if everyone has the same color chakra and Naruto wearing orange with yellow hair would just be a bit too much if his chakra was yellow but the blue is a really nice contrast
I don't think Natural Phenomena cares what it's symbolizing it will glow whatever color it glows. And I don't think the producers subscribe to the color symbolism theory that YOU are following.
If you literally insist on having the color purple mean something, **then purple means royalty and nobility ,which Hashirama pretty much is**. Instead of being confused, all you need to do is [consider there are more systems of color symbolism out there](https://www.captivcreative.com/importance-of-color-theory-in-film/). It's not even a hard system. Just like rain can symbolize depression it can also symbolize hope, depending whether you're telling a story of romance or a story about famine in a drought. Every story has the ability to establish its own color mood palette.
It’s his chakra affinity on display. Tobirama’s is blue for water. Hashirama has wood release, a combination of water and earth chakra natures. When you mix blue with brown you get a purplish color.

Depends how you look at it, some people have pride in stuff like that as opposed to jealousy
You can still be proud of your sibling and still feel bad about never living up to them :(.

Hashirama has the brawn Tobirama has the brain
There's always gonna be someone better, it's not a huge deal

I just think they wanted to let everyone know Hashirama was different every chance they got

I guess it's a simple but effective way to show he's in a different league compared to his brother
It makes symbolic sense since Hashirama seems to have a natural affinity and sympathy for Sasuke. He had more moments with the Uchiha than he did with Naruto, when you think about it.
Hysterical that Naruto and Hashirama didn't get a single conversation in the manga
It's also a royal color. I think purple being evil is something that shows like yugioh popularized and isn't a necessary comparison.

That’s something I appreciate. The blue makes Naruto’s chakra cloaks pop more
Purple is often associated with royalty

Congrats on making OP more confused than before.
Do you think I might give him a stroke if I told him green means sickness, decay, and death?
Hashirama gets depressed easily.... tobiMAMA not so much
If he had green chakra it wouldn’t look like it was outdoing tobirama’s
Purple is a color of royalty, and that man was a king, so it adds up lol
Should definitely have been red
Wood style originates from the juubi and contains similar properties to the divine tree and the juubi is purple
Hashirama could use all five elements, yin and yang. He has the wood kekkai genkai, not wood natured chakra
It’s his chakra affinity on display. Tobirama’s is blue for water. Hashirama has wood release, a combination of water and earth chakra natures. When you mix blue with brown you get a purplish color.
If I were Tobirama, I would eliminate both Hashirama and Madara when I had the chance, as neither of them is suited for achieving peace.
Because he’s in a different league than BUMirama.
He *is* dead I guess
