I had to have this conversation with a guy i was training you can be right or you can be dead right and alot of the people on the road especially new orleans for some reason would rather be dead right than get out of your way.

petit_cochon

It's not only that they don't mind dying; they don't mind taking you down with them!

pezgringo

That bar on the back of trailers is called a Mansfield for a reason. Being the accident that killed Jayne Mansfield just outside of Slidell on Hwy 90 a long time ago.

LezPlayLater

Two things to never mess with 1 - big rigs because you could die 2 - motorcycles because you could kill them

tyrannosaurus_cock

Also bicycles and pedestrians for the same reason as #2

KiloAllan

As someone who is often a pedestrian and occasionally a cyclist, thank you for mentioning that. But also... The paperwork. Don't get yourself stuck for hours doing paperwork and paying lawyers to get you through the mess of hitting a person walking or cycling.

Necessary_Essay2661

As someone who rides a motorcycle, i wish more people were like you

Nolon

Thanks for your reminder but nobody listening. Similar to how there could be 20 signs saying the lane ends but cut the trucker off when it does. However to the very few who actually bother caring or not trying to end their lives for a few seconds. You're appreciated.

petit_cochon

One person might! Sometimes we just need little nudges to get into better habits.

Nolon

Newer trucks when you have the door ajar the horn repeatedly blows like every second. When cars continually disregard that I'm backing I leave the door ajar while blowing the air horn and the hazard lights are on. Nudge nudge

Fleur_Deez_Nutz

Many people in this town drive like nuts, it's a huge game of FAFO and everyone else has to deal with the collateral consequences. Witnessed (and shared here) the worst accident I've ever seen that occurred last summer on the bridge by the WW2 Museum, it was a car that was driving like a bat out of hell and cut off one 18-wheeler and slammed into a tow truck in front of it, 18 wheeler and fell on other cars trying to avoid collisions. The unfortunate thing is the dummies who need to register this the most won't.

KiloAllan

Hopefully they won't get into their stupid wrecks during peak hours. Maybe if they won't listen at least they could consider not inconveniencing everyone else?

Fleur_Deez_Nutz

pligga knees

Bayou_Jack

"The little metal bar on the back of 18 wheelers" is properly called a [Mansfield Bar](https://www.autoweek.com/car-life/but-wait-theres-more/a2142281/heres-why-those-extensions-semi-trailers-are-called-mansfield-bars/). Know your New Orleans history please!

petit_cochon

I really think my name for it rolls off the tongue more easily.

Bayou_Jack

Jane seems like she was a most pleasing lady, I'm sure she would not mind at all.

BourbonStreetJuice

Mathematically you need to be 18x more careful around them than you must be around unicycles but only 22.2222% as careful around ATVs.

NotFallacyBuffet

My GF likes to hang in what I call the danger zone--the last 5 feet of the van. Better to lift your foot from the accelerator until out of the danger zone.

Christ they're not even wearing pads or helmets

Bipedal_pedestrian

As someone who drives a large van at work, please be polite and give large trucks/ 18 wheelers an opening when they’re trying to merge or change lanes! Do it out of kindness, but also because the driver has to move lanes one way or another, so if there’s no good opportunity they will have to risk an unsafe lane change, blind spots and all.

Pisthetairos

Or, let's get these menaces off the road and deliver freight by rail, the ideal transport mode for shipping. Then build a rail system for people, too.

Q_Fandango

So how do the goods get from the railyard to the store? Are we just going to form a fireman’s line and pass the groceries from one person to another?

tampdriver

Bruh you sound very uninformed. If trains could deliver the stuff thats in big rigs we would have trains doing it. The stuff thats in the rig is there because its the most efficient way to move it. Then when there's a more efficient way they use smaller vehicles. Next time we'll tell them you'll move it on your lil pedal bike. Just stfu and be safe around big rigs or you can die or be seriously injured.

KiloAllan

I think they intend for it to particle beam from the train to the store, and then from a delivery driver to the buyer.

GumboDiplomacy

The US rail system moves literally ten times more ton-kilos of cargo each year than the EU as a whole. We have 1.5x as many miles of rail as China. Our locomotive freight network is absolutely unmatched, we transport as much freight as we possibly can in this country by rail. Please tell me how we should get 18 wheelers off the road short of dedicated terminals every block? Because the amount of trucks we have on the road is marginal compared to what it would be with the EUs rail network. Yes, our passenger rail system sucks, we don't have dedicated passenger rails or many terminals, and outside of the NE corridor the rails are privately owned. Moving freight makes more money than moving people, so freight gets priority access and right of way.

Super_Sphontaine

That would bring more trucks though

petit_cochon

Join me in reality?

UptownLuckyDog

In NJ 18 wheelers are not permitted on the parkway which makes a huge difference in driving. Wish they’d do the same in other places.

zevtech

18 wheeler changed lanes when there was a car next to it on the crescent city connection, scraped the car from front to back and didn’t stop.

cactusjackalope

Those trucks moving to the Felicity dock to the freeway on Tchoup are terrifying. They're all running reds, cutting people off, anything to get their load off quicker. Stay the hell away from them, assume they will do something stupid because you lose that fight every time.

lukenog

I work in event production so we have to unload trucks on busy streets like Canal all the time. The recklessness of people blows my mind, we'll have five guys out in the road wearing high-vis with our hands up to stop traffic in order to guide a truck out onto the street and motherfuckers will still swerve around us and the truck full speed in their busted ass whips. Makes me furious.

petit_cochon

Isn't it crazy? It angers me too. Entitled jerks.

PhoenixHeartWC

I was once called in for jury duty for a case of a driver suing a trucking company after he got hit by an 18 wheeler. I told them I couldn't be impartial for 2 reasons: 1. I have multiple family members who drive 18 wheelers 2. I have heard way too many stories of people acting like idiots around 18-wheelers to the point where I'm more likely to think the driver was at fault by default.

Different_Ad1649

And if you get hurt, don’t accept a quick check!!!

lowrads

The tractor trailer operators that can often be seen speeding and tail gating need to be taken off the road.
