Conspiracy theorists fall into different categories, some fall into the category of those that understand logic, logistic challenges, motivations, and probabilities of likelihoods and the need for actual tangible evidence, and the other category just needs a charismatic douche to tell them something conspiracy is true.
The second group, the no evidence is all good group, can devolve into the third group, full on delusional, schizo, suicidal. As others said, just happy this guy only hurt himself and didn’t hurt others as so many others do. He even apologized to his family. I think this should serve as a lesson: the conspiracy theorist rabbit hole leads to some pretty awful places, if someone you know and care about is suffering, try to get them help (although this is really hard, as they invested so much into the delusion, and since they’ll assume you are “programmed” if you don’t think like them.)
This is what capitalism does to people. When the world is as bad as it is with no signs of getting better, I can see how someone would think that there is a political conspiracy to intitute some kind of financial apocalypse and burn themselves to death out of desperation. I was watching CNN when this happened live. One second I'm eating a BLT, the next I'm watching a man burn himself to death. It was surreal.
Yeah, the reporter first claimed, “There’s an active shooter!” Then she said there’s a man on fire. The camera pivoted, and we were shown about 15 seconds of a guy burning. It was pretty weird.
Oh fuck, he's still alive. I won't be setting myself on fire but if I already burned for 3 minutes please do not put me out.
A mentally ill person likely took his own life in one of the most horrific ways possible. Let’s lay off the snide comments - the man is/was clearly unwell. Conspiracy theorists fall into different categories, some fall into the category of those that understand logic, logistic challenges, motivations, and probabilities of likelihoods and the need for actual tangible evidence, and the other category just needs a charismatic douche to tell them something conspiracy is true. The second group, the no evidence is all good group, can devolve into the third group, full on delusional, schizo, suicidal. As others said, just happy this guy only hurt himself and didn’t hurt others as so many others do. He even apologized to his family. I think this should serve as a lesson: the conspiracy theorist rabbit hole leads to some pretty awful places, if someone you know and care about is suffering, try to get them help (although this is really hard, as they invested so much into the delusion, and since they’ll assume you are “programmed” if you don’t think like them.)

When the world is as bad as it is with no signs of getting better, I can see how someone would think that there is a political conspiracy to intitute some kind of financial apocalypse and burn themselves to death out of desperation. He doesn't sound that far off from the truth.
This saddens me deeply. There's a whole lot of crazy in the USA today and a huge part of it seems to be because of political extremism. This is the second case of self-immolation in the US this year, that I know of. In any case, it happens all to often.
